cool video :) I love being a tech geek! How did Vista work out for ya? Find xp pro and you'll be gold OR get a beta version of windows 7(refreshing it gives you 120 day trial) peace
The problem with these is that they kept going up in price with newer models so it's not really worth it buying that much anymore. For $700 you can already buy a "decent" laptop with probably 12'' or bigger monitor and a decent dual-core processor.
The right Shift key is awkwardly placed after the up arrow key, making it pretty much useless for touch-typists. Adding insult to injury, there is wasted, blank space between the up arrow button and the question mark key, where the Shift key should have been.
Oh it's complete crap. Don't get this machine. I already returned mine and got the Asus N10-J. I made my unbox video for it already, I just have to edit down the 20 minute video to 10 minutes for youtube (this video was 18 minutes and I got it down barely enough for 10, it's 9:59 lol)
Why would you game on laptop anyway? anyways, this is a "netbook" meant for many basic things on the go, internet surf, music, videos, pictures etc etc etc...but not heavy programs specially not games! for that buy a real laptop but then again I think it's really uncomfortable to play on a laptop...MY opinion.
Yea, we all know how to open a box. That's obvious (unless you don't, then I'm sorry)
But really, the reason people do these videos is not to show off, not to show "How" to open a box, but something else;
They do it to show other people the experience you get when you get your item, and people appreciate that. I do, I use it when I want to buying something, because some things may look good on paper, but in real life, they may be different. That's what these videos are all about.
Well I'm a vista user, I put ubuntu on my eee also, but there is no way in hell I won't have vista on there as well. I use it for a lot of things, and a lot of the things I do in vista I can't do in linux or I can't do it as easily. I would've gotten 2gb of ram regardless, I don't have any machine I use in my house with less than 2gb.
That people are used the windows, that's sure, however I think one of the reason the vast majority of the public sticks to that OS is because most still see a computer as something pretty scary, windows feels familiar and they cling to that. They don't feel like learning their way around again. A first-time computer user placed in front of say, windows, ubuntu and os x would however be hard pressed to favour one over another beyond personal tastes, and as long as it gets the job done.
I too am kind of puzzled by the "I've head linux on the EEE isn't that great so I'm putting vista on it" comment. First, you can get past the standard KISS-interface with a bit of tweaking, if it's what bothers you. Then, I mean, you even admit you need to add more RAM because of vista, why not stick to something less resource hungry to reach the same level of productivity? Or add more RAM and get an even more zippy system? "Well RAM is cheap anyway", sure, yet that's no reason to waste it IMO.
How can people put Windows Vista on a netbook? How can people even think about that? Netbooks have got limited technical capacities anyway, so why waste them on Windows "bloated" Vista? I will never understand that. People amaze me sometimes...
My question is this: How can people still think Vista has problems, is "Bloated" and is not usable on many machines?? I have had vista since day 1 of release, and have had it running on now, hmm, let's see, 6 machines to date, which includes my eee 1000, my old server (it's a media center server and a Windows home server (WHS is in a virtual machine), my mom's old desktop from 2004 that came with xp MCE, and all of my newer machines that came with vista.
In fact, I have every machine in my house running vista, none of which even have an XP dual boot. Some have ubuntu on them too, and I did have OSX on one of them, but all of them run vista great. So yeah, you may think vista isn't that great or is too "bloated", but I happen to think it's the OS of choice for most pc manufacturers for a reason. It's better than what's out there. You people need to get over XP, I haven't run XP on my machines since january of 2007, when vista just came out.
"but I happen to think it's the OS of choice for most pc manufacturers for a reason. It's better than what's out there."
You've gotta be kidding! Everybody knows that all those pc manufacturers only "recommend" (Windows) Vista because they lose their discounts with Microsoft if they don't. It's only money, not quality.
That's also a huge reason why Windows is preinstalled on more than 90 % of all computers out there. It's because Microsoft "pays" manufactures to do so, not because they believe Microsoft is offering the better OS. Wake up!
No, the reason they use windows is not only because microsoft pays them to do so, but because customers know how to use windows, and they like windows. I'm not saying windows is the best OS out there when compared to linux distros or OSX, but for windows, it's the best edition of windows so far. And people just don't get that, they seem to have the perception that xp is better.
By the way. Please, don't take anything personal that I wrote here. I just cannot understand how people can be so blind when it comes to Microsoft. Take care!
of course I don't take it personal. It's a youtube comment for crying out loud. lol, but anyways, I just don't understand it either. People just don't see the greatness in Microsoft's OS and can be so blind about it, although you were probably thinking the opposite, but I don't really care, it's your opinion.
If your interested in it their is a pretty good Case study on Vista in "Modern Operating Systems" by Andrew A. Tanenbaum. Additionally their are Case Studies on Linux and the Symbian OS on there as well. As a CS Student with a few Linux Kernel builds to my name i can say that Vista is a less than ideal evolution of the Windows NT OS ie Resource hog, antiquated file system and bulky system calls to name a few. I like Linux because if i dont like the was the OS handles something i can change it
I prefer Vista to XP for security reasons, but it is the slowest OS on earth. If you (as you do) dual boot it with XP or Linux or OS X, the difference is obvious. I put Vista on four machines when it came out (all of which were "Vista-capable") and had to go back to XP on two of them, both of which were about a year old. The one thing Vista won't do is run well on limited hardware, which is why netbooks generally come with XP, and even Microsoft allows XP on lower end machines.
IDK, one for home use, one for really wherever I go and soon to be school (that's the eee) and one for more of a portable desktop for when I go to my friends house's or something like that. I don't really need 3, but I don't like toting around a huge 7 pound laptop everywhere for basic tasks sometimes.
I know that, but the card reader will be able to read xd and memory stick duo's, also, I will be using the sd card slot for my 32gb for my applications to be installed on instead of the internal slow-as-molasses 32gb onboard, which will be used only for pictures, videos and some music, and so if I want to use an application with a memory card, say, photoshop or something, I will use the sdhc usb card reader.
did your parents pay for all of this? all this must have cost a ton! also, why would you ever put vista on the eeepc? (or any computer for that matter xD)
NO, actually I saved up for it by selling a bunch of my older things and stuff like that. Vista is actually an awesome OS and I have it running on 6 machines (including eee) and it runs excellent, all of the negative press about it is complete BS, because I've had it since day 1 of release and it has always run great for me. What are you running, outdated XP or OSX?
glad to see you saved up for it and congrats on the computer. i don't personally like vista, but we don't need to turn this into an OS war. i am a linux user, actually.
I know I don't want it to turn into an OS war either, especially with a Linux guy. I myself actually use Ubuntu on the side (because it boots faster than vista), and mostly for smaller tasks. I don't think it's a limited OS or anything, it just is a little bit too complicated for me.
i think that the processor, even clocked to 1.8GHz, would be a pretty big bottleneck with vista. the SSD, certainly, will improve boot time on every OS. i don't like that it's split up into 2 physical drives, though. there are some resources online if you're looking to become more experienced with ubuntu.
no it runs vista ok, only thing is that it won't recognize my 2gb of ram, only 512mb of it, idk why, maybe it needs a bios update or something. Also, I installed it temporarily on the 32gb ssd until I can shrink vista into less than 8GB (I've done it before) then chlone the ssd to the faster 8gb ssd. After that and I fix the ram, it will be pretty fast.
you can use a tool called "vlite" to resize the windows vista installer and create a smaller .iso of it. when ran, you can remove certain aspects or applications from vista that you don't want/need. a friend of mine got the vista install to about 800mb while still maintaining functionality.
dont do dirty things with it :)

the ssd isn't easy to upgrade, and the 8GB is too small for vista, yet the 32gb is large enough but too slow.

You can slipstream vista to fit on the 8gb
