  • on coward i finished it in 4 days on savage it took me like 2 weeks and on brutal i havent finished it yet ive been been playing the new twisted metal which is epic but i will always have a spot for splatterhouse in my 16 year old heart lol

  • which bionic cammando game leave anwser on my channel

  • Subjective/objective. Ur bias kills the review. Smh. Most if the time ur cuda are on point.....

  • its a funny coincidence for me that before they brought out this awesome ver of splatterhouse it was a couple of years before they released this game that i always use to say to myself man i wish they would bring out a new ver of the SPH game & when the day came that i saw a trailer of this game i was spunout & excited to think that all this time wishing for it & wish come true thanx NAMCO you guys are legends i absolutely fucking dig this game so hardcore & the music in the game is killer also

  • Just bought it today at K-Mart for $20!

  • I'm going to buy this today at Best Buy for $30.00.

  • This game looks good, reckon I should buy it? I have no idea what this game is, I wansn't around when it came out but it looks awesome.

  • If I had to nitpick about the music... I would say that not all the songs on the soundtrack I liked. It's somewhat of a preference of belief... because any moron can write a song about the devil. It takes proper skill to get within that ballpark of sorts without pointing out stupid stuff. Mastodon, Cavalera Conspiracy, and Lamb of God... great picks for a heavy metal soundtrack... but they should have replaced some of the bands with Children Of Bodom, Slayer, and Trivium. Heavy metal FTW

  • You didn't talk at all about the three unlockable OG games did you not know at the time you did this review?

  • I was skeptical about buying this, but I tried it anyways. I was not disappointed. Sure it may have its issues like load times and glitches, but I really enjoyed this game all the way to the cliffhanger. Sadly, we may never know what will happen thanks to the poor support it has been given thanks to the norm set by the bigger names in gaming such as Call of Duty or Halo.

  • Usually not a guy who's into gory/bloody games but this looks amazing!

  • Sore Game Man did a better job reviewing this.

  • It's just too bad that we'll never see a sequel for this. A total shame considering all of the issues they had with the development and then to get the shitty reviews and low sales. I blame Namco for not marketing this at all and for apparently not paying off IGN to receive a half way decent review.

  • We should all tell Namco to make a splatterhouse 2010 sequel.. Cause they let everyone from the original team go. The critics shat on this game. They need to know tht the fans loved it and that its definitely worthy of a sequel.

  • i think SplatterHouse is perfect, but this is the 4th review that someone hates the music, the heavy metal fits the games blood, gore.

  • @vilecrow

I disagree. I hated the music in this game. I would have much preferred they did the music like the original 3 games. Now those tunes were awesome.

  • why haven't i played this..you make it sound awesome

  • You have sold me on this game. Kmart has it on sale for $19.99 this week. Great review.

  • do arkham asylum....... u have to like batman... comeon...

  • retrogamer where did you get the fireplace?

  • good review

  • You had me sucked in for the entire 13:55. What an amazing review, very enjoyable and informative. Off to Amazon...

  • damn sun I was going to make fun of you for enjoying this game

but after watching the vid i see were your coming from

    bravo

  • Gore is too much is one! Two: they madethis game not only for fans! And three: HATE satanic things and satanic "music"! FUN FUN FUN - is good, but people, you are must understand when you are pay- you are are voting for game content AND product quality!

  • haha its all about how this guy is retrogamerTHREE

  • Did you get James to sign that Rolling Rock banner, and then fap on it?

  • Dude, why did you rip off SORE Game Man? >:(

  • this game looks awesome, why would psm give it a 3, maybe they smoke mad crack

  • best game ever 4 me

  • Great review. I loved it. You can use custom music in the XBOX 360 version. I'm not sure about the PS3 version since I haven't played it on a PS3. You can use old school Splatterhouse tracks instead of the heavy metal music for the game, although personally I enjoyed the music for Splatterhouse, so my custom soundtracks wasn't necessary.

  • bro i fucking agree with you %100 i was so pissed of all the shitty reviews it got like wtf is wrong with them? i also just starting to rate and review games i also gave this splatter house a 10 outta 10. its one of if not the best game ive ever played i so hope they make a number 2 they got to fucking make a number 2 with the way they ended this one. WHOOP WHOOP

  • @krazydemon86 if u give this a 10/10 u've never played good games. splatterhouse is good but very poorly made. i'd give it max a 4/10. go play god of war 3 and u'll know what im talking about quality

  • @xxSookaxx

I give the new Splatterhouse 8.5 out of 10. It is that good.

You just go back to your shit Call of Duty,Madden and whatever fucking else you play that fucking sucks.

I paid $60 for Splatterhouse and I would pay $1000 for it. It was well worth my 15 years of waiting.

  • @xxSookaxx lollol ur retarded why would I play cod :)) i mean this game is crap but still has a little good side

  • @xxSookaxx

Fuck you, COD is crap. Splatterhouse is AWESOME.

  • @snake2006 lol ur a total idiot or are u retarder ? or just 12 yo ? even though cod is crap but itsa still much better than this game :)

  • @xxSookaxx

The only retard here is you.

  • @snake2006 go brush your head intto the wall then light it on fire

  • @xxSookaxx

Please castrate yourself for the love of humanity

  • @snake2006 not before i fuck u in the ass

  • @xxSookaxx

Try it and it will be chopped off.

  • @snake2006 il chop ur head off first then fuck u in the ass

  • @krazydemon86

They won't. I hate to say this, makes me cry. It sold HORRIBLY. If I could afford it, I would buy tons of copies, just to make sure a sequel happens. This game rules.

I can't give it 10/10, I can give it a 8.5. I take a 1/2 point for the hard rock music, wish they would have used more of the classic tunes from the original 3 games. Another half point off for tech issues in the game such as audio drops, load times, jerky movement at times and 1/2 for the SHIT emulation of the old 3

  • @krazydemon86

I wish I could give it 10 out of 10 but it's not that perfect. It's still a solid 8 out of 10 for me.

Like Ed, I played the original back in the day and I still play Splatterhouse now. I loved them. I waited since 1993 for a new one, waiting and waiting for Namco to stop with stupid Pacman spin offs and give me SPLATTERHOUSE. I even bought a fucking Dreamcast since they said it was going to be that system in early 2000, and I fucking hate Dreamcast.

  • @krazydemon86

But the chances of a sequel happening is as close to zero because this one sold horribly due to asshole sites like IGN and Joystiq. They slam stuff like repetiveness and yet praise Call of Duty for the same thing.

It all comes down to Namco pulling all advertising money just before the game launched because they didn't like what the American team did, and they fired everyone who made the game after the game was done.

I am never buying one of their products again because of this.

  • This is the best review of SplatterHouse as i said on your RetroGamer3 website.

Why did they slate this game so much? i dont think they got pay to say it was good like they did with COD or KillZone2 and shit games that have been done a million times before.

Hope they make a SplatterHouse2 but i dont think they will with all the shitty reveiws by the pricks on crappy game sites who know fuck all about games.

  • The only thing that drives me nuts is the load times.

  • Very Good review !!!!

  • PSM gave it a 3.

  • Great review. I loved the arcade as a kid as well. I must agree with deprofuni442's comment though. "Heavy metal ruins nothing!" This game was awesomely hard (when on the hardest mode). Gotta love the revamped chainsaws as well!

  • I AM BUYING IT NOW!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • lol, brilliant... first review ive seen of yours.. you have gained a new sub... plus im sold on splatterhouse.. its gonna be in my collection.

  • This is the reason i like to hear old-school gamers reviews, they known everything a game is supposed to be: ENTERTAINING AND FUN, he just put every so-called "professional reviewers" to shame, this guy say all the reasons this game is awesome, and the background story of where the game came from (Arcade). Thank You RetroGamer3 for this awesome review, I'm buying this game at the first chance i get. THANK YOU!

  • @oss182 Fanboys gonna fanboy.

  • I loved the old splatterhouse ,I always thought they stole the look from Jason Friday the 13th.

  • It is good and i love how you can play the old school 1 2 and 3 of the old versions. But people its just a rental. The game isnt that long, and once youve beaten it a couple times there really isnt much left. Theres a survival mode but after a while of fighting the same people level after level its just too much. He didnt even talk about the cons? So your saying the game is perfect?

  • This review is almost too good. Really, you put the so called professional review sites to shame. Loved the personal story at the beginning.

  • hei Retrogamer3 i love your show its awsome !

  • How long did it take you to beat it?

  • I am a huge Splatterhouse fan. I never played the original arcade outside of emulation.

What made me a fan was a comic book ad for the Turbo port, I was only in Grade 3 at the time and had to get tubes in my ears due to chronic ear infections. I just woke up and was with my dad to go home, when we stopped in the pharmacy and got my prescription filled. I bought a comic which was the flash, and there is where I found the ad for SPLATTERHOUSE. I was hooked from that point.

  • @snake2006 I think ad for original SPLATTERHOUSE was greate!

  • you can unlock the old three splatterhouses

  • THANK YOU

  • nice review man

    loved it

  • Thank you so much, wasnt sure wether or not to get it. Heading out right now!

  • Good to see a review of Splatterhouse from a hardcore OG fan who knows what he is talking about. Although I'm not sure I agree with your statement that the original arcade game was the most violent or graphic game of its time...the Exidy arcade game Chillder comes to mind. And by today's standards the original Splatterhouse is pretty clunky and slow paced...later beat em ups like Final Fight really made improvements.

  • 26.99 right now at Amazon, just ordered my copy.

  • wat the fuck does he mean the the heavy metal ruined it?! it got me pumped!!!! i was rippin bitches in half! good review though.

  • I'm playing it and I'M LOVING IT, I completely agree with your opinion, you've undestood everyting of this game and why this is great, the only thing that was lost in my opinion, is a little of sadness and anguish that was stronger in the first three old games, but it's because this is not a Japanese game...

    Anyway, great review!

  • nice to see a convincing review from someone who actually played the old splatterhouse, you convinced me to buy it, good work

  • I loved it to,,,even though they took parts here and there from god of war, and the healing model from Xmen Origins. However, I don't understand why all the major internet reviews (Ign. Kotaku.com, etc..) gave bad reviews. It doesn't make sense. I hope this game sells enough for them to make a sequel. Because Namco Bandai moved there development operations back to Japan and I read this game underperformed in sales. I WANT SPLATTERHOUSE 2: Revenge of Rick's girlfriend.

  • Kick question though. The cover for the new one on PS3 that you keep flashing in the video. Is that just the rental copy cover, because the cover I have on mine is different.

Anyway thanks for the comment. I love the new Splatterhouse. I don't trust many pro game reviewers, they seem to like the same recycled games over and over again, and when something that fresh like Splatterhouse (it has some innovations) they seem to poo poo it.

Anyway, I agree the soundtrack is my main complaint.

  • I didn't have to rent. I bought the game. I have waited 15 long years for a new one.Despite losing my job in October (I had already reserved and paid for the game long before it's release so its good. Plus I am working a seasonal job which might turn into a perm job if I do well, which I have been exceeding)

I have also been a huge Splatterhouse fan since I was young. I was at a doctors office and in the pharmacy had a flash comic which I got my dad to buy for me.

  • @snake2006

In that comic was a comic book story ad for the game. That ad scared me as a 7 year old child, but intregiued me as well that I had to play those games.

I didn't play the original till years later, but a friend had rented the Genesis Splatterhouse 3 when it came out and I loved it. Then later I found a used cart of Splatterhouse 2 and loved it as well. Worth the $10 I paid for it.

I played the original via emulation and VC.

I have waited for 15 years for this day.

  • I first learned about this game, on an old G4 Icons episode. It was one of the older versions of course, think it was the arcade one. Seemed like a lot of fun!

  • as soon as i started playing this game, i was orgasmic, and every time i brutally slaughtered boss after boss, i was teary eyed. this game exceeded my expectations and will forever be in my collection. hopefuly they start on a sequel soon. btw, aside from the lack of glasses and the shirt not being mastodon, nice rick costume

  • 12:04 - 12:20 I'm the same way. I was unsure if I would enjoy this game based on what I saw in gameplay videos and trailers and I never played the original series because I had never heard of them and even if I did I was too young to play them. But I rented it from Rodgers Video on the 24th of November, loved it and bought a full copy on the following Sunday. This is the best review I have seen for this game by a single person, great work and lets hope there is a sequel to this game.

  • watched your review and loved the originals so bought this today!!!

  • I thougt this game is only 8 to 10 hours long? 10 hours tops, he said that he played all day and only accomplished 2% of the entire game so far??????? 0_o

  • @jann1180 because the game tracks progress of each collectible, each difficulty seting and even the arenas, there may be a 8-10 hour story, but the total amount of shit to do in the game is beyond worthy of replayability. i mean i completed the game on coward difficulty, it was balls hard, but my total progress with that, som of the pictures and journals and arenas it only at somwhere near 30% there is alot to unlock in this game

  • @gwarriorfromhell thanks for clearing that up man, I have a copy of the game, but havent played it yet, seems you really like this game :)

  • @jann1180 man, you have no idea how amazing this game is. even though it has little to no recognition to the general market, it is easily one of the better games of 2010. i wouls say that if the game had more marketing, it could have done a lot better on sales.

  • I cant wait to get this game!!!!!! I had a chance to play the original game so i cant wait to see how this game compares to the original.

  • Super Meat Boy trumps this in blood, nostalgia, and epicness. Thumbs up if u agree

  • @9innail Steam version is best :)

  • The reviews on the net are saying the complete opposite of this man. The game is only about 7 hours long, controls unresponsive, story crap to average at best, major camera and framerate problems etc.

  • Anyone who dosen't have fun playing this and starts ranting about framerate or bugs needs to get over themselves. Remember when games where fun? When you didn't deduct points for a sub par level design or framerate drop? When you enjoyed the game for what it was...that's what I felt playing this. It was really fun and its flaws where ignored by me because of just how much awesomeness was in the game. Loved it. It's like a love letter to the fans of the originals.

  • @vegakvd That's hilariously idiotic. You could say that about any game, no matter how bad it is. A broken game is still a broken game, no matter if you like it or not.

  • @StonedSwede but it's not broken. It's not broken in the least. I finished it awhile ago, so clearly it works. Have you played it?? I have, and there are a few issues with framerate and whatnot but nothing that "breaks" the game by any means. What I find hilariously idiotic is all the hate for this thing. Bottom line...I loved it. Nothing anyone can say can undo the hours of fun I had with it.

  • @vegakvd I bought it, almost had a heart attack because of how frustrated I got while playing the fucking thing, and then returned it the following day. If it had been a budget title then I wouldn't complain, then I would kinda see through the numerous flaws. It isn't a budget title however, so yeah, I will not accept stuff like: unbalanced boss fights; missing sound effects and insanely repetetive gameplay. The horrible platform sections and the unresponsive controls should also be noted.

  • @StonedSwede

    Broken my ass.

Stop sucking at games and this wouldn't be a problem.

  • @snake2006 I would never say that I'm a gaming expert, and I do not have enough time to waste in order to become one. However, the horrible game mechanics had nothing to do with my lack of gaming skills.

Almost every other gaming site, and magazine has given this game a bad score... I am not the only one that thinks that this game is complete dogshit.

  • @StonedSwede

Yet the actual GAMERS who know what the fuck they are talking about have been raving about how good the game is.

There are lots of positive reviews. The pro reviewers are being paid off by the big companies to promote dogshit like Black Ops (Yeah I fucking went there Call of Duty is a dogsit franchise since the VERY BEGINNING) and anything that falls outside that, they poo poo it.

You just fucking suck at the game, Deal with it and fuck off.

  • @snake2006 I get it. It is wrong to criticise this game, atleast when you give good reasons to why you are criticising it.

  • @StonedSwede

It is when your reasons are based on fucking bullshit, then yes.

  • @snake2006 Fuck it, to have opinions in this day and age is dangerous. The only way we are going to settle this is with a fist fight, and I'm bringing a gun.

  • @StonedSwede

Which is the typical American way isn't it. Shoot everything.

No wonder the world hates America.

  • @snake2006 Yeah, good point! Thank God I'm from Sweden then!

  • @StonedSwede I personally loved it but I do agree with you about the platforming parts.

  • have a nice day fanboy for not adding "xbox360" but "ps3" in the tags...

(btw you'd get more views by doing it)

  • @Headshotgod

well he was playing it on ps3 not 360. just saying.

anyone whos not an idiot knows that a game for both 360 and ps3 are the exact same game.

  • I knew this game was going to be awesome even during the time it was announced! Gamespot and IGN can kiss my ass for giving this a 4/10. It deserves way more than that. I guess they either, #1 suck at the game, #2 listen to Justin Beiber's music. #3 have weak stomachs, #4 Namco didn't pay them to publish a credible review, #5 hate the Splatterhouse series, or #6 all five.

Guess what guys? That means we'll be seeing nothing but FPSs without gore and rap and boy band music soundtracks next gen.

  • Also you don't wanna be in the room by yourself when you're playing that video game.

  • You've just looked through all of the massive problems that this game has. It's a mess of a game, I'm sad to say. The whole thing is just buggy; the frame rate is low at all times, the controlls are imprecise and unresponsive, and the graphics are not on par with any 2010 title - it looks horrible. It's a budget title game with a full price basically, a real shame.

  • Great review. Love the passion that you show for the Splatterhouse series. I gotta go out and get this game. The word that comes to mind is FUN! :)

  • man this game is fucking awsome but the music for me is the best part i get pump everytime that i have to fight and the background music, lamb of god , five finger deathpunch and some other bands rock this game kick ass

  • For I got the game free, my firend bought it for me out the blue and just lie u I was sekptical because of some bad comment on the gameplay preview. But once I played it...is awesome defently worth my time and I recommend anyone that's ify to atleast rent it and if u like it buy it. If not, your missing out

  • @DinoBoy31 That's what I did when I first heard of the game.

  • What a great review man!~ It's refreshing to see some talk about a game with direction and substance. Really, it's not common. Well, I pre-ordered the game and haven't picked it up yet because I have spent so much money on other. GS is supposed to give me a terror mask model on a stand with the order, but they might be all gone. So how many game hours did you log, in total? Thanks!~

  • @Khimeran77

There should be plenty for everybody who preordered but it isn't handed to you there, you are given an authorization code on your receipt and you redeem it online. Mine should be here at the beginning of next week.

  • @SparktehFox Cool, thanks for the info!~

  • How is the frame rate ? sorry if i missed it in your great review :)

  • I bet this game will be so horribly cencored in Germany, that it won't be worth playing anymore... like the German version of l4d or Saints Row. :'(

  • IGN blows. They totally trashed the game. I fucking love it.

  • i might give this one a second chance, i was a big fan of the 3 on sega. i just wish they would have gone a different direction with Rick,i agree that he looks a lot like John Cena. other than that it seems like they try to stay pretty true to the originals. maybe there is unlockable attires or something.

  • @batmanmotherfucker

Why, and how does he look like John Cena? True I don' watch wrestling but I have WWE 2009-2011 and Rick does not look like John Cena. What? Is it because he wears shorts and no shirt? Then I guess Kratos looks like Perry Saturn, fuckin loser he is. There are like 5 unlockable masks.

  • @SparktehFox saggy shorts with his boxers showing, his build, even the shoes. its plain as day.

  • @batmanmotherfucker

sooooo... every white guy with baggy shorts and shoes looks like john cena now? Damn, all you white people MUST look alike. T.T

  • @SparktehFox yes, because every white person that aint a wigger typicaly dresses like that.

  • @xboxlivegb

it's a setup for a sequeal and Jen was evil at the end of the original too.

  • Looks like Krato's got some competition.

  • gamespot gave it 4.5 out of 10, ouch...I'm guessing they just don't get it, and can't appreciate the nostalgic references.

  • @yeismeload

gamespot is terrible to games and tries to compare everything to big hits. I don't pay attention to reviews but more-so the users and actual footage, however I got this game on release day. I gave it a 9.5 on gamespot for 360. Plus they reviewed it on their system glitches which can easily be fixed by installing it to the hard-drive.

  • @yeismeload read my review as SparktehFox on gamespot.com under 360

  • So we all agree it's John Cena, as John would say YOU CAN'T SEE ME BECAUSE I HAVE A MASK ON.

  • i am so fuckin getting this for christmas just from your review

  • OMG dude. Man I canceled my preorder on this cause I was skeptical too. But damn now I want it so freaking bad! I just got 5 new games during black friday and looked all over for this to be on sale. But Now I think I want it no matter the cost.

Hey add me on psn and xbl if you want:

    dmajor11

I got a lot of games so maybe we could co op on some stuff (not big COD player though... more a Killzone/ Borderlands/ Singularity) FPS player

  • |ts crazy what kind of poor reviews is gamespot (and some other big name sites) giving lately... splatterhouse 4,5!!! (also, gran turismo 5 = 8 and nfs hp = 8,5 ?? the biggest issue gamespot had with gt5 was bad first impression and they rank it worse than nfs who is the same hot pursuit they made years ago just with better graphics, nfs is inferior to gt5 in every single category imo, WTF FFS!!!)

  • I loved the new Bionic Commando game. I loved both the game play and the story.

As for Splatterhouse, seams fun, it is on my list of games to get, but I think I will go for House of the Dead 2 first.

  • thank you so much for the review

  • you didn't like the Heavy Metal? what a panzeeee!

  • I really love this game as much as the next guy but umm, the frame rate on this is horrible. Especially on some of the game's 2D section. There is this weird jerkiness to the movement of Rick too. A lot of cheap deaths. No anti-aliasing at all across the game, so expect a lot of jaggies. And the loading time clocks about to 25 seconds per death, without installing.

I really hope they release a patch to iron out all this.

  • I have too tell you that I know I'm getting this game for Christmas. After viewing your review of this I know not only am I going too love this game but may actually cry while playing this because of all the memories that will come flowing back too me.

  • @Nazzlover38 Dude I teared up when I played it to. Really I did.

  • @RetroGamer3 i have to completely agree with you on this review except the heavy metal metal ruins nothing in my opinion im a metal head though lol

  • Well this is the year of old retro games comeback.

    Donkey kong

    kirby

    Sonic in some term

    m.m

  • damn, no arcades where I live shut my favourite place

  • The metal fits in the game, at least they didn't put rap in it, that wouldn't have fit. I enjoyed this review as much as your others, glad to see you review it!

  • Bah! Heavy Metal ruins nothing!

  • @deprofundis442 Heavy Metal makes everything better!

  • haha Awesome!

Just like you bought the TG specifically for Splatterhouse, I might have to buy a PS3 or 360 for the same game. The side scrolling looks awesome. It all looks awesome. lol

Thanks for the first peek! :D

  • This game looks a lot of fun, and I'm glad Namco decided to make a new version of it. Great review Ed.

  • Good review.

  • First off man THANK YOU for taking time to review this game! Hardly anyone has a video review up for it...oh and I loved the beginning with the floating disc lol

  • The metal was'nt meant to be scary, more for making the fights epic. Really metal is the only music i think of when i need to disembowel monsters. Great review and thanks for the tips.

  • Great video Ed.

  • the only thing i didnt like was that it had a crap final boss, and each dificulty goes to 33%, you only have 31% left in normal mode

  • It was worth getting my sorry ass outta bed for.......

  • I woke up at like 8 o'clock last night and this review was the first thing I saw...Didn't know the game was out...needless to say I ran right out after the review and rented it and Retro is right about this game its amazing! For once a recreation of a series is not a flop I think beings that Namco was still around to follow up there game helped a lot it feels like there is a wise old namco guy that told the Devs. about the old days and they went in like the bad news bears and made a killer game!

  • Oh man! I am so pumped for this game now.

  • nice review!

  • Actually, we will see you, you cannot see us, unless you've got cameras all over the world, I wouldn;t be surprised by that, since you ARE EVIL! Muahahahahaha!

  • I think the length is padded out because you have to defeat the game on multiple difficulties to get 100 percent complete or something.

  • got it for xbox 360, awesome game!

  • I'm enjoying the game so far. Great review.

  • Keep the reviews of current gen versions of retrogames going with a review of Castlevania Lords of Shadow next.

  • I like that you review new games too

  • this game would make you go crazy

  • thought is was "re-make"

  • thanks for this man...glad to see a good review on this!

  • i have to say i bloody love this game...some of the reviews for it are pretty bad but i think as an old school splatterhouse fan like yourself to recomend it so highly means more than a reviewer who was probably only a baby when the originals where out...plus you get the three original games as an unlockable bonus!!!!!!....great review mate!

  • Thanks dude for spreading the spotlight on this awesome franchise. I really appreciated your views.
