Whether we like it or not, the american people would profit from a president that could make a person who wants civil unions agree on a common issue with someone who is a devout christian as well as make a person who is pro-life agree with someone who is pro-abortion or at least see the people as fellow americans and work beside them, not hate them, or make them feel like criminals in their own country. I think that both candidates successully showed the type president they would be: Obama understands his views and beliefs but does not force them upon the American people. I really believe it is important that Obama has never said he's going to bring troops home. He actually wants to bring surge level type troops to Afghanistan, where significantly more American's have died this summer than in Iraq.

I think Pater Warren was a wolf in sheep clouthing. As you said he representated himself as a nuetral person who wanted to sit down and have a conversation and that this wouldn't be a "gotch" forum. However after the forum he went on ever conservative and christian talk show, tv and radio and bashed Obama in a Gotcha manner and praised Mccain as his candidate. He was only semi neutral on shows like Larry King evn going so far as to say McCain cried on some questions...clearly he did not.

I am currently fighting in OEF and wanted to know when I was coming home since the war was over and we won... Whenever the president gets a chance, if he would alert the people still setting up IED's on the side of the road and shooting at us, that would be great! Obama hit all his talking points, but with McCain they were life lessons rather than mere political tools. Much greater depth of experience to draw upon. But Obama is the best the Democrats have. Some people in this country use there ability to call names as a strength, when really our ability to help other countries when they don't have and our ability to help eachother despite our differences is truly our largest strength. I don't believe that Obama is a savior, I believe he's a man running for president and this is the type of change I want for America... Whether we like it or not, the american people would profit from a president that could make a person who wants civil unions agree on a common issue with someone who is a devout christian as well as make a person who is pro-life agree with someone who is pro-abortion or at least see the people as fellow americans and work beside them, not hate them, or make them feel like criminals in their own country. Differences are what make us strong and as Americans we shouldn't divide ourselves.

Mccain is older and faith based. He knows his beliefs and wants to stick to them, He wants things to go a particular route without faltering and believes this can be accomplished as a president. It's hard to compromise how you feel when this is the way you feel. If you are a president representing many voices and not just your own, sometimes you will be asked questions that won't have straight answers because the answer has to be understood by voters who do not agree with your stance...

I think that both candidates successully showed the type president they would be: Obama understands his views and beliefs but does not force them upon the American people. Because this country is so diverse, we need a president who is willing to understand differences and deal with them accordingly, on a case by case basis. The government cannot be run perfectly with one word answers b/c we are the government and our opinions matter, so all opinions must be taken into account when giving answers

Looking at Obama, I realise that the way he answered the questions of the forum is the way he speaks during pre-written speeches, there is no difference. He stammers, I got it. He says alot of ums and uhs and I can see how that could get annoying for any voter who wants direct answers from a future president. The "Straight Talk" campaign is Mccain's. He spoke a little better during the forum than he does during his pre-written speeches... To be continued...

I really believe it is important that Obama has never said he's going to bring troops home. He actually wants to bring surge level type troops to Afghanistan, where significantly more American's have died this summer than in Iraq.
Don't get me wrong...I agree with that idea, but before you say war monger....you might want to be real careful in comparison to what Barack is actually going to DO in the middle east not what his fans are saying they want him to do.

I admire your presentation but feel your source of conviction is flawed. We have been at war since the 1980's. Bush's real sin was to actually do what he said he would. McCain, experienced war in person and will (correctly) press forward to success. No doubt Obama is sincere in his convictions, but I'm convinced his beliefs will lead us to an existance similar to France and that is a terrible future. By placing your faith in Obama I surmise you would be happy to live as the French, why?

How can you call McCain a "Warmonger!" when he starts speaking about his Vietnam experiences? It wasn't his decision to start that war. McCain's descriptions of being subject to torture doesn't make me jump to the ridiculous claim that he craves war, but had to suffer its most horrible consequences.
But he does side far too often with interventionism. I miss the McCain who argued against his party and against his President in the 80's to stay out of Lebanon.

Senator McCains answers only were short and concise. Obamas answers were circuitous by nature because he tries to please everyone all the time. He picks and chooses his words, hems and haws.
