If you make these into flash cards it works by covering up a corner and having them add or subtract. but they have to understand addition and subtraction before going to these
I color coded mine for my son; the "whole" number of the group at the top I made blue and the two "parts" numbers red which seemed to help him to better understand the triangle technique. I tried using the triangle for addition facts but it didn't make sense to him until after he memorized them. Hope this helps. :)
