This actually reminds me a lot of a My Morning Jacket show I attended, but it was the polar opposite; they tried to see how quiet they could be. They were almost completely silent while still performing for, like, 20 minutes.
Man I always try to find out when the audience is applauding but it's hard because MBV is the one band I know that can purely make noise and make it sound like there's no sign of the audience applauding at all. Well you could tell later on like in around 5:00 but before that it was so hard to tell. It sounds like a freakin' tornado!!!!!! This concert.

Peter Hammill, Fripp, Eno, Scott Walker, Piazzolla, Gainsbourg, Jacques Brel, Birthday Party, Waits, Brower, Lemper, Beatles, Beach Boys, the Buckleys ( both Tim and Jeff...mostly Tim), Corea, Davis, Coltrane, Jarrett...uuhhh!! I'm forgetting so many of'em!! SORRY!

It's not about following the rules ( or not...), it´s just about evolution. To make an evolution just in the aspect of NOISE, within the same musical form from 150 years ago is a very poor way of revo-evolution...Get Debussy, Schönberg, Duke Ellington, Claude Bolling, Stravinsky, Stockhausen ( which I dislike a lot!),...even The Residents, Bowie, Björk or P.J.Harvey and epitomize them,...but these kids?...

Of course the used underpants of Bill Bruford are much more valuable in Music than this bunch of systemized noises within a prehistoric musical form. Don't be so selfish and arrogant to consider that you listen to some kind of avant-garde style...they were ( and probably still are) just a group of unsatisfied mid-class kiddos with rock-heros pretensions...Stand up, grow up, WAKE UP! And start listening to some MUSIC at once, before it's too late...try starting with...maybe Palestrina?. Goodbye.
Forget anyone that does not 'get' this band. They play from their heart, have big ideas, are true to their own vision, have a healthy disregard for their isteners sense of hearing and are not afraid to leave a 16 year wait between live performances. Name one other band that comes close............
@redcereal12 Not really, earplugs wouldn't have detracted from my enjoyment or memory of the show. It was still pretty awesome though. Dinosaur Jr were almost as loud that night too.
Saw them in March 92 and let me tell you, during this the constant barrage of noise and strobes was VERY disorienting. One of the best bands I've ever seen.
Blur played after MBV and I didn't hear their first 3 songs!
last comment fellow or chica you are still very arrogant as far as i'm concerned MBV is probably one of the best bands in the last 50 years, and i have been a huge fan through the years, and fyi this is the first time i have ever searched youtube for live footage of them, and buddy it is way more impressive than i thought it would be, people re-listen, refresh, rediscover this incredible act, cheers!

I'm a musician. When I started I was so arrogant and selfish...I used to play in bands like this one,...when I started STUDYING, I definetly learned what MUSIC was about...get it?
I study music too. And after 10 years, I've learned this: NEVER judge what is music and what is not. Music is not just beats and melodies and harmonies, its about emotion and expressing it through any means possible. Many things we can't enjoy because our own pride gets in the way. I suggest you don't do the same mistake.
And now my turn: Chicago, September 27 2008, Aragon Ballroom. CANNOT WAIT!!!!
and that is why you visited a video about a band you know you don't like? so you can bad mouth it with your arrogance? I guess you did not learn "how not to be an asshole" eh?

Sorry man, I didn't answer your question...why I'm here. Way back in the 90's, I was told by many "geniuses" that MBV was the best band of that decade...Once again, go and study something, kiddo.
That is my footage. I shot that.

i study plenty of music theory.
now tell me, how will music progress if people follow the rules and no one experiments?
it won't.
ratxinxaxcage67 3 years ago 28
@ratxinxaxcage67
Nowhere in music theory does anything say "you can't do this", there are no rules.

Oh I get it! Great music is all about the likes of Bob Seger, Billy Ray Cyrus, Alan Jackson, James Blunt, and the used underpants of Bill Bruford.
Yeah, those selfishly arrogant trolls in My Bloody Valentine need to take note!

not really. Bush is shit but we don't live under a fascist theocracy making it harder for bands to play here or anything.
