I grew up on the westside of LA and enjoyed many years on Santa Monica, Malibu, Venice, and Redondo beaches. Those were the days when kids hitch-hiked everywhere we needed to go. I can tell that Erma would be a fascinating friend!

Great little story (I could have used 'whale of a story' but it was too easy! haha)

I used to live in Redondo and PV when I was in my early 20s - my first California stomping grounds after a Chicago upbringing. Thanks for the memories!

That is a good story. I don't know that I would have been so calm, I always had a fear of sharks in the pool so baby whales in the ocean would seriously freak me out! Glad you had a great day it's beautiful out there.

I haven't been to that beach since age 4 when I nearly drowned! But that's a story for another day. My aunt and uncle lived in Manhattan Beach for years and we visited them every summer. We drove out from Iowa and took a different route every year. She still lives out there, but further out of the city now.

I loved Emma's story, it was wonderful.

I haven't been to Redondo Beach in a few months... I miss it there! Did you have lunch at the El Torito or the Seafood Places there yesterday? I'm glad you had a great time and Erma had a great story. Finally, a break from the rain hehe

Looks like it was a beautiful beach day!

The whale story is like a classic horror tale with a surprise ending. The adrenelin rush of "shark meat" turning into a playful baby whale. Whew! He probably didn't sleep for weeks...

I've played with dolphins down in the Keys, and sometimes they'll sneak up on you and give you a surprise bump. For that first heartbeat, all you're thinking is that it's BIG. EEK! And then it comes up and blows water in your face. The turkeys... :-)
