  • i understand what he's saying. but he's still a douchebag

  • Unknown unknowns does sound like est training.

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHA SE WAHT I MEAN POSTPANIC2??

NOW CHECK THIS: Julian Assange Explains Who The Bastards Are

  • @ReleaseJulianAssange HA HA What ? Rumsfield says absolutely jack shit, that anybody with a mind didn't already know. Oh and yes Julian Assange says absolutely Jack Shit as well. That we didn't already know. JA is a CIA/Mossad/MI5 asset. Oh 15,000 files that we are reviewing with some maybes and a couple of possibles. This is your proof ? Off What ? That you have been totally sucked into the Assange double agent bullshit. He is not fighting for us. Assange is a double agent psy-ops on steroids.

  • @ReleaseJulianAssange Address my points please.

"Why the hell does Julian Assanges Lawyer/Solicitor belong to a group controlled by the Rothchilds. JA Lawyer Mark Stephens works for the Rothchilds. Via Fox Rothchild LLP Attorneys at Law. Address that. Before anything else. I think its a tad important. Don't you. Google it for yourself. You'll find I'm speaking the truth. Not hearsay like most of the smoke and mirrors bullshit offered up by Mr Pys-Op himself. GOOGLE IT

  • this sounds just like something I saw on The Boondocks, but Youtube won't let me respond with the video URL.

  • I think I know what you're saying

  • What a pillock

  • Wow, I honestly had NO idea about that.

  • The Rumsfeld School of Epistemology everybody!

  • it makes sense, but he should have phrase it differently

  • That makes perfect sense, I don't know why anyone is confused by it.

Things we know that we know include anything that we know about. Things we know that we do not know include things we wish we knew, but unfortunately don't (things like the enemy's plans, etc...). Things we don't know that we don't know include anything whose existence we aren't even aware of, so we can't wish we knew about it specifically.

  • It is a black and white way of saying: no matter how much you plan, things you couldn't predict, will happen. At the time of planning, they were "unknown unknowns"

  • not really that stupid. If it came from a professor of project management or philosophy people would be saying what a great quote it is.

Don't get me wrong. That man IS an idiot, but that speech was NOT idiotic in the slightest.

  • there are dicks who are dicks

there are dicks who are pussys

there are pussys who are dicks

and there are pussys who are pussys.

  • I know

  • He who knows and knows he knows: he is wise-follow him.

He who knows and knows not he knows: he is asleep-wake him.

He who knows not and knows he knows not: he is simple-teach him.

He who knows not and knows not he knows not: he is Rumsfeld -shun him.

  • I completely understand what he said, funnily enough.

  • Like, an example of a known unknown is that we don't know if Donald Rumsfeld is a patriot or a scum-sucking piece of shit lying corporate opportunist willing to kill thousands of Americans to make Boeing and Halliburton and Blackwater lots of money.

  • My philosophy professor went through this quote. It makes perfect sense in epistemology. It does sound hilarious in regular use though, which is why this caught on so well. Funny how we think it's the reverse: most people just don't understand it and write it off as nonsense.

  • somebody really should have thrown something at him

  • I really did not understand what rumsfeld said...

  • way ta go with the doublespeak

  • It is not stupid of him to say that at all, but the wording takes the guise of a quirky, silly statement.

  • "This is not the platform for propaganda, this is the platform for truth"

    Truthspeak! Doubleplusungood!

  • He's describing a JOHARI WINDOW MODEL, LOOK IT UP LIBTARDS!!!!!

  • How do people call themselves Christian and yet still keep sending troops to Iraq and Afghanistan?

How come Bush, Blair and Rumsfeld - amongst others - did not get charged with war crimes for blatantly lying to the people of the US and the UK taking us into an illegal and immoral war - that continues to this day?

Why do good people do nothing when such horrendous crimes are committed in our name?

John Lennon would have had more than a few words to say. Of that I am sure.

  • How? It's easy.

Step 1. Send Troops to Iraq or Afghanistan.

Step 1A. Change "Thou Shalt not kill" to a more Republican friendly "THou Shalt not murder."

Step 2. Repeat the phrase "I am a Christian".

    Step 3. Profit.

  • he is trying to explain that what's possible is infinite and it lives in the domain of the things that are beyond our knowledge, (what we don't know that we don't know).

what we know and what we don't know maybe limits us into endless possibilities that we don't have acces to them because we are limited by our own knoledge.

  • Confucius

"To know that we know what we know, and that we do not know what we do not know, that is true knowledge. "

    — Confucius

  • so apparently Rumsfeld was channeling Confucious. Brilliant lol

  • I know! Exactly!!

  • The Master of Obfuscations.

  • Actually, this makes sense...but it helps if you've taken some courses in logic.

Read Socrates and you will find the unknown, which now will become the known unknown.

  • i know, i don't know if there is A -god. But i do know there are too many men amongst us -attempting to play god - who could pass for satan.

  • You remind me of one of my college professors who loved listening to himself so much, that most of us fell asleep during his lectures.

  • That kind of self love in universities is rampant.

  • We can go even deeper into the (un)logic of our psyche though There are also these things called: Known known knowns Meaning we known that we know what we know Unknown known knowns We dont know that we know what we know known unknown unknowns We know that we dont know what we dont know known unknown knows We know that we dont know what we know etc. :D
  • We know that we don't know what we know? Whaaat?

  • Students of International Relations will actually find this a fairly simple concept - the politics of uncertainty.

  • I know that he doesn't know what he' talking about, yet he wants us to think that he does know, what he doesnt know because he is a LIAR!

  • I always wondered if there unknown knowns as well?

  • Unknown knowns (things that you don't know you know) are the most important, since they are at the root of creativity. The task then becomes - how do I get rid of the glass walls between the various things that I know about, so that I can access those unknown knowns and be creative. You do it by thinking of functions rather than the things which deliver those functions!

  • ummmm what???

  • it does make sense you just have to digest the info u are recieving , in fairness it could have been said clearer how i dont know

  • this does make logical sense, but it was just a poor way to say it

  • Welcome to the good ol US of A..bullshit at its finest

  • This all actually makes perfect sense, as you smart ones observe.

It's the dumb people who don't understand that hurl insults, ha ha.

  • unfortunetly rumsfeld isnt as stupid as he comes across in this speech, 'known unknowns' is not origianlly his thinking, he nicked it from plato

  • "not originally HIS thinking" is right. He's regurgitating from the work of Werner Erhard (est, Forum etc), who himself assimilated Zen-Alan Watts-Silva Mind Control-Scientology(!) etc.

Rumsfeld, though, is a particularly 'dark' individual, so it's a tad worrying that he can demonstrate he's been involved with something that 'transforms' people yet he isn't himself that way moved! Proving that 'enlightenment' tech is 'neutral by nature & the person chooses what to do with it.

  • Does anyone know if Donald Rumsfeld has participated in Landmark Education or est training?

  • Dumbass

  • If a british politician said that he'd have to hide away for like months as everyone would just rip it out of them. Including the priminster, and porbably give him a b*tch slap. =P

  • Hahahah thats so true...

  • Ya think?

  • Yeah people love taking the micky here, and don't let things drop. That's why they all hate Bush so much in Britian.

  • bollocks

  • The criticism of this quote is a perfect example of liberal thought. Instead of analysing the substance of what Rumself is saying, they merely react to the APPEARANCE of what he's saying and the IMPRESSION it would give to "most people". Liberals don't care for rational truth, they care for popular conception.

  • To them, things like environmental activism don't have so much to do with scientific studies determining how much man is responsible for the warming trend (or if there even is one in the big picture) as much as it has to do with having a cause that they can go to protests for and make friends and get laid.

  • You say that as if it's a bad thing.....

  • this proves how stupid Americans are.

  • yeah but your country will say different about america when we bail your asses out of hot water again

  • What the hell you on about

  • Maybe so but who is bailing who out of hot water right now? Its the UK whilst your all in Iraq... Learn your facts before you speak dumbass...

  • He's right, it just sounds silly.

  • if he's an idiot we're all retarded

  • HE IS AN IDIOT!!!!!!!!!!

  • Donald Rumsfeld should be jailed in Iraq for having a post war plan that ignored military commanders wishes and let the situation get worse.

But after seeing Ron Paul's message of non-interventionism and common sense tramped on and ignored in the media I'm suspecting that America is itching to re-hire rumsfeld as the planner for Iran. Yes america (as in people), you are that stupid.

  • If you had any idea about project management you would recognize this as being quite a cogent statement.

  • this man is the smartest man alive.

  • What about what we are not allowed to know? That is knowing we can't know but that there is something to know. Knowledge is only power when it is in the wrong hands.

  • This really isn't that dumb a statement if you think about it. Yugoslavia could be secretly stockpiling nuclear weapons to use against America. That would be an unknown unknown.

  • I agree that it's not that dumb...but isn't your example a known unknown....when you're able to consciously acknowledge an unawareness of a situation, that means that we know that something is unknown. It seems that we would never be able to imagine an unknown unknown because the minute we think about it, we become aware and it becomes known.... just rambling at this point ^_^

  • "Not known, because not looked for

But heard, half-heard, in the stillness

Between two waves of the sea."

    Also,

"what you do not know is the only thing you know"

    T.S. Eliot

Whyis it that someone like Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld never will be held responsible for their misdeeds...?

    as Darryd1 wrote:

"What about what we are not allowed to know? That is knowing we can't know but that there is something to know."

  • Darryd1 is an idiot!!

  • pointy birds, pointy birds, all pointy poiny, nointy birds, nointy birds, all nointy nointy!

  • Hehe, to robr33452, I was wondering if anyone thought that ...

  • WTF lol

  • lol

  • Sooooo Landmank!!!!
