THAT is what Rock & Roll is.. Love, Respect, Passion, Heart ANNND Fun.. Leave it to the Boss to bring this all together.. My biggest influence as a musician and a person... Hey, Thanks Boss!
I don't care about the quality of this video; I was one of the lucky ones inside Carnegie Hall that night. Bruce wasn't even supposed to be there. It's an annual benefit that raises money for music education for NYC kids and they honor a different artist every year. At the end of the night, Bruce came out and played Rosalita himself, then he was joined by the rest of the participants. Marah & The Hold Steady stole the show. Ronnie Spector was WAY too drunk & kinda pathetic. What a night!
GREAT BRUCE VIDEO!! I have a teen-oriented, hockey themed book coming out in October which has over 25 Bruce song and characters from Bruce songs, references (the hockey team is named the Magic Rats, the lead character plays hockey "undeneath Abrams Bridge" etc)!!
I did a promo video for the book and you can see the video by just clicking on my name.
Just heard Craig Finn of Hold Steady talk about this clip today on E Street Radio. Great stuff. He is a huge Bruce fan and his setlist and the descriptions thereof were remarkable. Bruce Fans: Check out the Hold Steady!
Absolutely. I was at this Carnegie show. The Hold Steady sold me. Their version of ATLANTIC CITY was amazing. It built up the entire song and exploded at the end. I wish there was a clip on youtube somewhere of it!! :)
mechpope13: Haven't seen a version of The Hold Steady's Atlantic City. I'd do anything for it, and will definitely link to it on my channel if it comes up... Good luck!
I was at that show also and it was AWESOME!!. And to top it all off I met Bruce after the show upstairs in carnegie hall. Have a pictures with him. He was always my hero and meeting him was a dream come true. Thanks for posting!!! I got to relive one of the best days of my life!!! (check out the version of "one step up " by the low stars. it was spectacular.
Was at this show as well, and I agree with all of MattK3222's comments. Odetta and Steve Earle were great as well, but having Patti Smith show up as a late addition...awesome!
One of the best shows I've ever seen, and I'm not really a Bruce guy. Hard to tell from the video, but the crowd was really into it. Great ending to a great show.
I was at this show and it was sick!! Seeing other artists cover his music and then have him close the show with an unannounced visit was great. Personal highlights were Badly Drawn Boy, The Hold Steady and of course Patti Smith singing Because the Night.
This is by FAR my favorite Bruce clip EVER. How can you not feel anything watching this, anyone who loves Bruce live can relate to everyone on that stage-just wish we were one of them...
I'm sorry. I love Bruce. But this IS lame. All of these poeple up there that just look goofy clapping along. How forced and pointless. And it looks like some of those Mafia-looking guys are clapping out of time. How could anyone be genuinely excited about this? Ugh.
courn: You misunderstood my comment. Here is what I meant: I meant, how could anyone be excited about watching this as an audience member? Yeah, it's clear that the people onstage with Bruce are excited. Overall though, it's just really really lame. You can't convince me otherwise. These people look completely goofy.
WHAT Bruce Springsteen tribute show??? Man, how do you keep up with all this?... Whaaow. Rosalita...Springsteen's hitting near 60 now--is that right?-- and yet he's still got the smile of a teenager. BRUUUCE! K, I'm done. :) Thanx for sharing.
no talents....craig finn is an incredible musician. you probably have just only hear of Malin so he is the best in your mind. dig a little deeper before you mouth your lame ass opinion.
I believe Jesse Malin took a verse. His solo stuff is totally worthwhile. I'm not familiar with D Generation, but I've eagerly bought all his solo stuff.
Bill "Falafel" O'Reilly from Fox News got his nickname from the sexual harassment lawsuit in which he told his producer he wanted to put his "Falafel" in her!!!
I'm impressed you got this up so quick! I was at the show and this video doesn't do it justice. AMAZING concert. Hold Steady totally rocked. What else did you capture???
... and there's Malin, too, and Adam G (from Marah AND Bloodline) with the black cap on. Hey, Adam - first time I ever saw you without either a guitar or a bottle of beer in your hand, man!!
I see Bruce, the Barber (Marah's Kirk Henderson) and Badly Drawn Boy up there... and isn't that Francis Ford Coppola in the second row? Great clip, Mr Rring, thanks a lot for posting this for those of us who would have loved to be there but were stuck on the wrong side of the Atlantic last night...
The highlight from a wonderful show honoring the work of the best writer and performer in rock history (and raising over $150,000 for music education programs) What was the most enjoyable part of the evening was seeing Bruce playing with some of his friends-in particular Craig Finn of "The Hold Steady". I believe Bruce and Craig had just met so what a thrill this must have been for Craig-and the Hold Stready delivered with a searing version of "Atlantic City".
THAT is what Rock & Roll is.. Love, Respect, Passion, Heart ANNND Fun.. Leave it to the Boss to bring this all together.. My biggest influence as a musician and a person... Hey, Thanks Boss!

2nd verse: Damon Gough aka Badly Drawn Boy

Female with shades is Ronnie Spector
