  • @TheEvilGenius600

Up to 8 inches. Beautiful creatures, IMO.

I'd so have one for a pet!

  • Were these things like locust of some kind?

  • looks alot like our prime minister

  • There are quite a few types of weta, Ive seen many in NZ and a couple near Canberra ACT :>

  • The thing i love about New Zealand is how safe you a from cretures. Its one the few places on earth without any venomous snakes and spiders

  • wey was it considerd exstict what happen that pretty much killed these bugs off

  • Urgh have these in my garden XD

  • What are u talking about? I saw one of those at my cousins house in new zealamd

  • It almost looks like a red grasshopper

  • @Dallasdeckard the key words are "if current trend continue". If you can't see those trends take a look. As for who - the 1200 scientists that prepared the millennium ecosystem report and the 600 the critiqued it, is a start. As for Kennedy, I recon it was something to do with taking the Federal Reserve's power to increase and decrease money supply and so the economy could be milked with the benefit of knowing when the booms and busts will occur.

  • looks like my boss

  • I just screamed like a little girl! LOL Crickets and grasshoppers freak me out!

  • weird animal

  • Weta's own

  • That species would make an excellent cracking/ popping sound under my boot.

  • @TheEvilGenius600. google it. One egg bound female was biggest insect (by weight) ever!

  • good, i hope they do go extinct!

  • @amazing187thug - scientists calculate that if the current trends continue humans will be extinct before the century's end. The weta will probably survive.

  • @clickthisway how would humans become extinct?

  • @babyxkande war, famine, war, overpopulation, war, no resources left, USA, war and religion.

  • @clickthisway That's better for the planet, imho. And it'll be our fault, really. Killing ourselves off. And we're the most "intelligent" species. Pffft...

  • @amazing187thug Hópefully you do

  • @amazing187thug Every creature we see & the ones we don't are part of the ecology puzzle. Take out a piece of the puzzle, destroy it, & there is no creature in that ecological niche. It may take 1000s or millions of years to fill that niche again. That's why every creature is important. You may know that there has been a collapse of honey bees in N.America. They are crucial to any kind of farm or orchard. They must pollinate flowers so fruit can form. Every creature has a job to do and important

  • @nor888vast695 Yip even without the billions of bacteria you cant even see. Without them nothing would rot to have their nutrient recycled. We'd be up to our eyeballs in dead matter without bacteria.

  • @clickthisway And all that came about by chance violating the entropy law.

  • @nor888vast695 well i think we havent seen at least 50 % of this world creatures, and maybe after million of years that niche could be still incomplete and thats a shame :S

  • @nor888vast695 what about nats...whats there purpose

  • @nor888vast695 not all creatures have a job, but yes i agree 90% with you, but you have to admit....some creatures are nothing more than a curse from god, such as mosquitos. And the earth hasnt even been around millions of years...modern carbon dating on diamonds can prove the earth is less than 15,000 years old.

  • @nor888vast695 Except flys.............ooooh wait. spiders eat flys...

  • ashenfly r u serious? Insects may be what saves us in the end. We use leeches to heal wounds, ladybugs to kill invasive species, micro organisms to clean oil spills, the list goes on and on, we have yet to discover the possibilities

  • are they grasshoppers? or from that family locusts etc?

  • @hez1919 cricket I think

  • i live in new zealand. Wetas are not dangerously near extinction, they are quite common to find, especially in the summer. They can hurt a human quite bad.

  • weta scum i got one of these but not mahoenui i fed the weta to a centipede

  • wow we can still have sicens with out spiders

  • lol thats the same thing of walking whit dinosaurs so it is verry old

  • They look like red spiders with kinda of a Wasp head.

  • how cute!

  • looks soo happy at :23 ahaha

  • these crickets freeze themselves in the winter and come bac alive in the summer

  • thats so badass

  • Looks like an ant had sex with a spider

  • @nickysng I AGREE

  • hell yeah, Pitch black, Futureproof

  • They look crazy

  • I insist there should be more research on insects. We still don't their behaviours and toxicity. And there are many species that still need be identified.

  • why give this guy a thumbs down i give him a thumbs up he's only giving us his thoughts now whats wrong with that?

  • cause on youtube, if people dont like sumthing they have to make it SOO WELL known . Gah hate people who thumbs down for no real reason

  • im sorry but i believe theyre are more important things to do than continuesly research insects. I mean with our economy its just not going to happen. Moneys too tight to be using it on something they cannot even use to make money

  • Insects pollinate 80% of food crops. No insects no food. No food no economy. No money at the moment as the system is a boom to bust system. To avoid bust parts of the cycle we need pepetual growth to avoid depression. Perpetual growth in a finite environment can not be sustained is my current view. Everything you see comes from Earth - and to the earth it will return.

  • lol well put :)

  • @clickthisway not these kind of insects, flying insects like bees etc. also the wind and birds pollinates many fruit trees.

  • Technology actually has advanced because of the study of insects, by studying a locusts reaction to "Star Wars", a chain of discoveries lead to a feature in a car that automatically detects trouble and diverts from it (if you get too close to the bumper of the other car, yours slows down or stops accordingly)

  • Without scientific research our culture would enter a new dark ages of "functional" entropy. I would wager education should be a large goal for us and will stimulate a longer term growth of our economy.

  • Insects like this Probley Fight for the plants lives to give us fruits and veggies Not infected by poison...

  • if human's were to dissapear the world would repair itself...if 3 percent of bug species died off were to drop the world would die

  • @Ashenfly What is money Ashenfly ? Do you know where money comes from and how it is maid. I would suggest you to take 5 to 10 minutes of your time to investigate this, you will probably even find some links on youtube about this subject. There ARE more important things such as making sure you live in a world free of tyranny and exploitation such as the money system inflicts to the people. Also there are many things we can learn from researching insect. Hope you explore these issues. Love ya

  • @Ashenfly Really? Money is just paper and the economy is just a concept/ imaginary system. Insects live, and without the knowledge we have of them, you'd probably be dead. And actually, people do make money off of insects, so... shut the fuck up and go research how money is actually made before you go runnin your mouth.

  • @Ashenfly youre very ignorant

  • @Ashenfly ignorance is bliss my friend.

  • That was so random lol

  • Tell em to piss of back to District 9...

  • lol

  • great film !!

  • @KamelFilms hahahahahahaha...LMAO!!

    Thanks in advance!

  • The track is Electric Earth (Part 7) by Pitch Black

  • i would love to know the song..♥

  • LAWLS!

  • i really don't think they do.

  • No, check a kamelspider!!!

Thats the world famous ugly Motherfu...!!!

  • we having lobsters today honey!

  • cool but diffrent

  • Do you know how big this thing actually is? It is HUGE

  • they are beautiful, i used to play with them as a kid in NZ, some times you'd turn the tap on and no water would come out, cause one on them would have crawled up inside, my mum stuck her finger in once and got bitten, believe it or not Ive also seen them in QLD Aust too.

  • Beautiful!

  • Bit ironic that you'd say that considering the name 'Weta' is actually the Maui term for 'Ugly'.

  • Beautiful!

  • that looks like the mask riders helmat

  • cool although i like spiders more i just actually luv all insects and archracneds

  • Excellent!!!!

  • i have seen much larger bugs the topilo mississippi nightlady is a much bigger bug but you half to go there and ask for a map to the black water boat ramp and carry a good flashlight theal come to the flash light at night

I got here from watching japanese bug fighting

  • new??? looks the same for me XD

  • Very nice video, excellent pictures!!

  • Thanks.

  • w我 日

  • At first I thought I saw a spider, but as my soal lays in the hands of God and may I burn at the steak if I am lying, but I found several of these things living under my house in Upper Lake, California. I don't know how they got here but this is a very odd area and very prehistoric, so maybe then they survived here somehow. I'm going to take videos but I see these things every now and then here on the mainland, and they are not extinct.

  • Wicked! I'd love to see a photo. There are similar species about. They belong to the cricket family. Go to our channel then click the link to the insects page of our website then the weta link and see heaps of hi res photos and more info. Cheers

  • i see around also in miami.but this particular species is the one thought extinct.

  • I could be wrong but I think he's ALMOST certainly confusing Jerusalem Crickets for a type of weta, understandable because they look much like wetas and get to a respectable size too. They like to live under things and don't craw over plants.

  • Jerusalem Crickets, potato bugs or genus Stenopelmatus. I've often wondered whether the two species are related but I don't think so. Despite their similarities I don't think they have anything to do with one another. Take a look and tell me what you think.
