yeahhh there you go....lets shelter kids from the reality of what happened in the past and how the whole world was in a war, and seeing the everyday life of what was done to end it. Play the movie, parents use discretion.
ok, there should be no debates on this topic at all ever, the FCC should not even be a legal organization, because of the obvious reason that is in all of our faces, but we look over, THE 1ST AMENDMENT! Everything about the FCC COMPLETELY goes against the 1st amendment. I mean what has this country come to, people can't even follow the original amendments!! I believe if the founding fathers saw America today, they would just shoot them selves in shame.
@striken4pot Yes, indeed - though the Supreme Court's decision yesterday (striking down California's ban on video games) suggests that, a long last, the Court may be coming around to respect the First Amendment.
@PLev20062006 Oh, that's great. You know, the difference between these two men is that Mr. Brent is an opinion type of person, and Mr. Paul is more of a fact type of person.
@jimmofosty Hell yeah! We all know it's better to be BRAVE, especially since we all know the vast importance of DILIGENCE being one of the Seven Heavenly Virtues and content supposedly gets GRITTIER and GRITTIER as we get OLDER!
I agree kids shouldn't watch Saving Private Ryan. That's why, if I had kids, I wouldn't let them watch it. But I wouldn't demand that my opinion be mandated on everyone. I would much less want my kids to watch one of Pat Robertson's hate rants, but I'm not demanding that he be taken off the air either.
@jimmofosty Hell yeah! They're in dire need of knowing that straight-A scoring, studious, heartfelt, and extremely courageous high school teenagers and college students are coexisting within the world and there are reasons why they tolerate content they deem as offensive, and sooner or later, those children will have to be forcefully and naturally exposed to that stuff themselves, but they should still be able to study hard and make it out of high school RIGHT ON TIME!!
I agree with Levinson. While the incident with Janet Jackson's breast was probably indecent, it lasted less than a second and it did not warrant the FCC crackdown and absurd fines that happened shortly afterwards.
You guys are being a bunch of loons! Come on! Brent Bozell is a smart man. Anyone who tries to tell me that he blames teen pregnancies and school shootings on TV is a liar. Honestly, I just want voluntary self-regulation and not government regulation on content, because apparently the sane people don't want to see much of this "bad" content. Outrageous!
It is a movie about war and that war looks like you douche bag. Hey it freedom of speech you Nazis should captain America mighty shield thrown at you and your groups.
Save the violence for the next war, TV has got so many things going on and choice of viewing has expanded as indeed the channels. I don't think there's anything to worry about either the first amendment seems to be intact still, well done for explaining it. Here in Britain though the watershed is difficult to argue, ever since Woodhouse or Peacock regulators fought for certification. I personally think getting the unedited version must save a lot of unnecessary editing of media texts.
WHAT?? Sex, violence and language can be just as offensive as religious satire. Why do you losers like to be so mean, rude and selfish. If anything, it gives the PTC a reason to want to censor.
"Look at this poor kid being picked on by those hell-bound heathens. If those were my kids, I would whip their butts."
Actually, if you're referring to me, last time I checked I was very nice, courteous, and generous. Otherwise, I'm afraid I don't follow your logic here.
It would make it much easier for parents to keep their children from watching this mindless crap if it were airing after 9-10pm. Even you call it "sick" humor, so no amount of moral can come of sickening humor, at least for children.
It mat be a very realistic portrayal of your world, but not everyone elses world.
That you find education in a cartoon with crudely drawn circles spewing profanities illistrates just how your world differs from other peoples world.
Who cares what kids see? PARENTS who have a responsibility to raise their children without exposure to adult themes and language. Sure they will eventually be exposed to the mindless crap that American viewers crave, so what's the rush??
Kids only have one time in their lives to enjoy the innocence if childhood.
There are no BROAD societal standards of what is and isn't indecent. Everyone has different standards. For instance, as a libertarian, I couldn't care less if the tv stations played porn, so long as the kids aren't exposed to it, and parents actually do their job.
The FCC regulation of what TV networks can and can't show is just another example of the silly nanny state gone too far, scapegoating networks for "degradation" of our culture and shirking parents of responsibility.
If you ask me, the FCC should just die out and be replaced with a much milder organization dedicated solely to minimal regulations regarding frequencies and licenses and whatnot. We don't NEED this bullshit of fining certain stations just b/c a bunch of ultraconservatives wanna impose their values on the rest of the nation and "force" stations to do their bidding and not be "indecent." Besides, what is "indecency"? It's such a subjective term! It's in the eye of the beholder, for christ sake.
So this is the guy behind the madness, Brent Bozell, what I don't like about the PTC is not that they're trying to protect children but how very facist they are, they want to ban programming that other older, more mature people find entertaining.
Yeah. The man who tries to create balance in the liberal news media, YET also the man behind this mean and dirty organization, Also, contrary to what some people including you believe, the PTC doesn't protect children... You protect children by setting rules, using the V-Chip, etc. (To be fair, I never paid attention to the ratings anyway). Just stupid organizations trying to blame advertisers for offensive programming. How unfair of them.
I dont believe anyone is for banning programming that mature audiences like to watch.
The issue is the hours that those programs air. Mature isnt a word that should be ascribed to adults who giggle and tee-hee at the truly childish and sometimes R rated innuendos and language that can be found on Family Guy or S. Park. But whatever. Banning these isnt the answer. They should be on at a more mature hour of the evening.
as the PTC would probably reply "but what if the children were watching it at that time?" which sounds completely stupid but thats how they'd probably retaliate
WHAT?? Kill him off? No way! If he got killed, then who is going to create balance in the (currently) liberal news media? I certainly think he is out of line with his views on entertainment media and such, but this is the news media we are talking about here. Also, I won't do it for a cent, nor will I take your crappy money, as it is contaminated with what I call hate speech (in which case I consider a request to kill someone hate speech against that person).
That's just hate speech... but I don't agree with them AT ALL.
As for Seth McFarlane, he seems to hate Christianity, not that I am defending the PTC here. I just read someplace on the net that he seems to hate the Christian religion.
Brent Bozell was a supporter of Joseph McCarthy during the 1950's, he was also a supporter of Francisco Franco, the dictator of Spain. Furthermore, isn't it interesting that Dick Cheney said the words "go fuck yourself" on the floor of the Senate and was never criticized by a single "decency group".
it's common knowledge that parents suck, but in all fairness, it comes with the job. but anybody who uses kids as an argument to limit everyone else's rights should automatically lose said argument. It looks like the parental control function is still alien technology to these cranky old fuckers. Blaming entertainment is the first sign of shitty parenting.
Refusing to air Saving Private Ryan is an outright disgrace.
Soldiers died during WWII. They were shot, dismembered, had their guts hanging out, bled to death, and died in almost every way imaginable. To deny our fallen heroes of their story is a disgrace to everything they died for.
How about next time, we censor Shindler's List because it talks about the Holocaust, where 6 million people were murdered. After all, murder is bad, right?

Yeah, they're definitely not really concerned with what children watch. That's just a front for imposing restrictions on society as a whole. whats the point of bleeping out the curse words? if i hear someone on TV saying "*bleep* you" im pretty sure i know what he said regardless if its bleeped or not, also fading the middle finger im pretty sure i know what finger there raising
Parents Television Council is a dangerous and fascist organization. "Saving Private Ryan" is a movie that should be seen by every child in America, especially in this era where science and math is placed over teaching our youngest citizens about the sacrifices made for them. This movie teaches how lucky we are to live in America and to honor those who lost their lives defending it.
exactly.the PTC is a bunch of dicks who think parents are dumb enough to listen to their outrageous and completely pointless campaigns. they campaigned against without a trace, one of my favorite television shows. could someone tell me how without a trace is at all inappropriate for children over the age of like 8....
saving private Ryan is a good movie, but horribly inappropriate for kids, yes they should learn of the sacrifice they made for us, but not by watching them get their brains blown out. i do think they have every right to broadcast it, but kids shouldn't be watching it.
but the first ammendment, which gives me the freedom to say what ever i want, was made for the most hanious neo-nazi or othe white suppremisist groups to speak it was made so i can say fuck nigger cunt whore monger asshole goddam peice of steaming pile of shit man quieff
my first ammendment rights protects that and makes me legally able to say the most horrific things like hitler was awsome and the jews deserved the Holocaust (I DONT NOT MEAN THAT I AM MAKING A VERY EXTREME EXAMPLE AND I AM SORRY FOR ANYONE WHO WAS OFFENDED)no law can prevent me from saying that just read the first ammendment it allows me to say everything i just did
i am sorry for anyone who i offneded i didnt mean to offend anyone i was just giving an example of how the first ammendment gives us our right and the hate speach i said is terrible hitler was terrible and a disgrace and again i'm sorry for anyone whom i offended
The 'Parents Television Council,' Bozell's front, has repeatedly overstepped the boundaries of observation and routinely attempts to intimidate legal program sponsors for shows that were never intended to be viewed by children. They bragged about driving advertisers away from "Nip/Tuck" and regularly attack "South Park" episodes without paying a shred of attention to context.
"Bleep out the obscenities"? This guy obviously either never made it out of sunday school or lives in a cave somewhere. He's obviously never learned to debate.

The first signal that youve lost an argument when you have to resort to name calling.
Watch the epsode, "Bloody Mary" which has a statue of the Viorgin Mary, a deeply sacred cornerstone of Catholic beliefs.
The statue starts blowing blood out of its ass which the charachters call a miracle.
The statue goes on to spew blood out of its ass on a local bishop and then the pope.
Thats not satire. Thats not humor. Its hate speach pure and simple.

exactly.the PTC is a bunch of dicks who think parents are dumb enough to listen to their outrageous and completely pointless campaigns. they campaigned against without a trace, one of my favorite television shows. could someone tell me how without a trace is at all inappropriate for children over the age of like 8....

saving private Ryan is a good movie, but horribly inappropriate for kids, yes they should learn of the sacrifice they made for us, but not by watching them get their brains blown out. i do think they have every right to broadcast it, but kids shouldn't be watching it.

Why? Because Levinson speaks calmly and carefully, using rational arguments?
