Bobby was actually capable of holding a beat together, which is the most important thing being the drummer of Bad Religion - which is something Brooks can't do for shit. Just watch the Live at the Palladium DVD. On various occasions, he's just rushing through the song blindfolded, incapable of holding the beat together properly and struggling to recreate his drumfills the way they were recorded. Check All There Is and Let Them Eat War from Live at the Palladium for the best examples.
you're totally right! i didn't expect that someone say that. i mean, brooks is fuckin amazin y'know? but there's the thing that he can't hold on a second without playin drumfills and stuff, anyway i love both styles.
yeah brooks is definitely more of the type of drummer i dislike. too much show, not enough playing along with the band. bobby was the perfect drummer for the band. i don't hate brooks or anything, just think bobby's style is more fitting
Does anybody else think that Bobby Schayer's drumming went kind of downhill (Technically) as the Albums progressed? Personally, I think his best drumming has to be on the "Generator" album. Especially "Atomic Garden" But i think also that he is really basic from "The Grey Race" onward.
I love the line "staggering like birds against a hurricane and trying all the while to stay out of each other's way". Another amazing social commentary by Bad Religion - not only do we have to worry about all of the external forces that are against us, but we also have to dodge all the other people too. Brilliant
Iono about wackerman he fits the bill i suppose. But i like Bobby. Prolly just me being used to him because the first BR album i ever picked up was Generator then Recipe for Hate.. Plus he just looks way chill up there whenever hes playing like its no sweat haha badass...
thats were its gets different if bobby was still with bad religion he wouldve improved i still like his drumming it wasnt fast fast drumming most people expected single hits no rolls i like wackerman as well he adds that extra maybe bobby couldve too
One of their best songs IMO. I love it and it was the first song I heard. Strange that it wasn't recorded on Epitaph!

Exactly

The reason he stopped in the first place was because his arms were hurting him. That explains why his drumming went downhill
N1CKYb0n3z 3 years ago
That happened in 2000 ¬¬

i know. thats 2 years before the process of belief when brooks took over.

tendinitis from guitar playing. He wouldnt be the first.

@N1CKYb0n3z It wasn't his arms that were hurting him it was his rotator cuff

what do you think of wackerman

Wackerman is a great drummer.

exponentially better than bobby
ajohnson1111 3 years ago
bobby is such a good drummer the grey race is a good cd
damthatfatmike 3 years ago
Not really. His drumstyle is kind of boring and never really suited the band at all.

I thought that Bobby carried Stranger Than Fiction with competently.
I can only imagine though, how relentless it would be with say, Pete Finestone, but we can't all eat cake, can we?
machinesbreathe 3 years ago
I agree that Finestone wasn't exactly sensational.
What I dislike about Bobby's style is the predictability, and lack of variety.
Then again, you're older than me. Perhaps you were already used to listening to Finestone when Bobby joined the band?
I got introduced to the band by songs like Live Again, Sinister Rouge, and Sorrow.
JohnZackarias 3 years ago
As far as my favorite punk drummers go, they coincide as follows, in no paricular order:
Bill Stephenson (Descendents, Black Flag)
Chuck Biscuits (DOA, Danzig, Samhain, Social Distortion)
Grant Hart (Husker Du)
Rob Wright (NoMeansNo) Highly Underrated.
Todd Barnes (TSOL) the fastest ride cymbal in all music.. R.I.P.
I'll still take Finestone over Wackerman any day, as persistent and loyal as Wackerman is.
machinesbreathe 3 years ago
I can't really make sense out of "I'll still take Finestone over Wackerman any day, as persistent and loyal as Wackerman is. ".
Care to elaborate?

@SwedesUnited It's pretty sad a song as profound and deep as this gets a top comment about boobies.

Damn, Greg's voice sounded like it was going out to begin with, was probably worse after singing that. No wonder they never do it live anymore :/
pcgamer58 4 years ago
I agree. They probably should have played it earlier in the set.
