but afterwards became a great voice

although i hate her last two cds the earlier ones were great

even though umm kalthom is a big and huge singer i dont think that she should be compered with majida el romi..cause majida from her childhood was the best <plus she can reach all the hight tones easely**..and her voice can undoubtly take us to places we wasnt aware it exiests..to a lovely and charming places to avnue with bink balconyes :D..blus her strength in the her personal and singing live connot be mesured..she is just gift from hevan..singing angel

It is true, but Magida, who is above 50 now, still cannot sing oriental modes properly:)

Umm Kulthum was over 65 when she sang this song, whose name is Daret el Ayyam and not Lel sabr hdoud by the way, her voice had regressed considerablym while Magida's was blossoming...but the difference between Umm Kulthum's rendition and Magida's is like the sky and earth!!! Magida's strength was never oriental tunes. What's with the "Lebanisation" of some words such as "la2itou" and "malinaha"

It is not fair to compare an incredibly highly experienced and cultured singer like Om Kolthoum to a 14-year-old girl even if this girl is Magda El Roumi :)
