  • first off, Cichlids can live in brackish water. So thats PROBABLY what hes doing. Salt is actualy healthy for fish. Second, if a puffer gets along with the cichlids, then its FINE.. Ive had 2 male bettas get along and not fight along with a school of about 15 platies. Nobody will beleive that.. but Its happend. So leave him be. Nice tank bro.

  • Hello sir. I just wanted to ask you about your puffer and how its doing with the african cichlids? i have a african cichlid tank and had a green spotted puffer for a while but i wasnt protecting him one night and he passed away. so sad :( but i would like to hear more positive stories and successes with gsps and africans if he is still alive let me know please :) thanks!

  • wow that looks great! but yes, your cichlids won't be able to be there for long. haha along with tht puffer.

  • Kinda funny how people respond to videos having absolutely no idea what they are talking about

  • that looks like my tank did u get from walmart ??

  • Do cichilds need a heater ? someone please reply ! Thanks.

  • @ShammSkeenx012 Yes, cichlids do need a heater. All tropical fish should be kept in water that is between 72 and 78 degrees fahrenheit.

  • hey what did you use to make it like snow

  • How is the puffer going to live???? My friend got a puffer without asking me about the water reqs. and it died a few days after. The puffer needs brackish water and the chilids need a different type.

  • for the 6 who dislike this video your just jealous.

btw.nice tank but you will need a bigger tank soon.

  • @SuperFishlover11 I've got the cichlids in a 75 gallon now and they are breeding like crazy lol

  • @aredwine33 woaw nice tank@!!!

  • @SuperFishlover11 i do dislike the fact that its in such a small tank bigger is better but its a cool growout/temporary set up.

  • The cool thing about freshwater puffders is that some of them can be acclimated to marine tanks when adults.

  • HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a 29 gallon aquarium cichlid aquarium (Next to my epic 75 gallon tropical aquarium) and the 26G has aftican cichlids they are 2-4 inches long and there are 5. The aquarium has TONS of rocks and well i want a puffer. I can get a dwarf puffer green spotted puffer or a figure 8 puffer. Should i get a puffer?!? If i should what type should i get?!? PLEASE RESPOND also each puffer is $15 so i dont wanna waste money.

  • you r a moran. why do you have a venustus in with a yellow lab?!! idiot.

  • Is it recommendable to put puffer fish with cichlids?

  • i made my tank just like yours well close enough sand and some rocks but i need plants havent got them yet and i only have 4 baby cichlids

  • is it wise and safe to put cichlids in a 10 gallon tank. i have a 10 gallon tank and i have no idea what to get. i love the look of the cichlids (need smaller ones), but ive read so many different things and that they cant live in a 10 gallon tank

  • @wolverine1865 it isn't reccomended to put cichlids in small aquariums, africans might be okay with 30 being the minimum. dont be afraid to over overpopulate with africans though they need many tank mates and tons more hiding spots.

  • puffers will kill all yur fish , their like the pitbull of fish

  • I love your tanks

  • do cichlids like open area or lotts of caves and do they like plants (fake). And can I fit one common pleco an 2 african cichlids in a 10 gallon

  • aye bro i got a cross breed betwwen the elictic yellow and other cichlid what is the name of the other cichlid

  • These fish require totally different habitats and should not be kept together. The gsp should be in brackish water and will require full marine as an adult, not to mention at least 30 gallons all to himself.

  • @JoseDepacos thats when he is bigger

  • @JoseDepacos TY for an educated response.

  • Well, ive got a 10 gallon and i want to breed cichlids, is it big enough?

  • @mrJBKfilms i would recamend at least at least a 30 becasue cichilds have quit a few fry at a time

  • tokio hotel ... are you serious ??? but nice setup though .... but bad taste in music

  • u better use a real plant.. it looks more natural

  • @harrygats the cichlids will eat the real plant

  • does 10 angel fish suits in 10 gallon? or in 20 gallon? or in 30 gallon?

  • @pokeadictt 20 or 30

  • wouldn't the cichlids need a cave or two?

  • do you know any cichlids that can fit in my 12 gallon tank?

  • my 2 Cichlid kicked each others ass in a 10 gallon

  • puffers need brackish... cichlids need freshwater...

  • not all puffers. this one looks like a spotted puffer and they can be fresh or brackish it depends if the breeder has them in a brackish tank. i have 1 and it is 100% freshwater

  • umm actually if you do your research you will learn that brackish water does not harm freshwater fish, because salt is like penicillin for freshwater fish

  • @aredwine33 I'm allergic to penicillin :)

  • @Theunlimitedgeek lmmfao.... that was funny

  • isnt a puffer fish sea water fish?

  • @caliburn0911 some puffers are, but this green spotted puffer can live in freshwater

  • @caliburn0911 they have fresh

  • @caliburn0911 they have freshwater

  • @aredwine33 sorry, this applies to SOME fish, other fish will die within minutes of a gram of salt is added to their water

  • Umm actually if you do research you will lerar that brackish water does harm south american fish because salt is like anthrax for south american fish

  • @aredwine33 does ur puffer atack ur cichlids

  • @aredwine33 Freshwater salt might be good for them...

but if you're using marine salt for the SG levels you need... which is what you NEED to use... you'll be causing your cichlids to have Kidney failure.

  • @aredwine33 agreed

  • @aredwine33 i agree with you i out a tsp of salt per gallon in my 55 gallon and i own 4 african cichlids and a pleca and all do just fine but i was wondering could you have a puffer with african cichlids if the water is right?

  • @aredwine33 i agree with you, i put a tsp of salt per gallon in my 55 gallon and i own 4 african cichlids and a pleca and all do just fine but i was wondering could you have a puffer with african cichlids if the water is right?

  • @aredwine33 did you have any agression with the puffers trying to eat the others please tell me and if not what fish can i put with puffers

  • @aredwine33 Brackish is not the same as adding aquarium salt. I hope you know at least that much, LOL! And aquarium salt can help freshwater fish by cutting down on bacteria so that the fish's immune system doesn't get overwhelmed, but it is in no way an antibiotic and salt is in no way ok to have in the tank at all times. It is very hard on freshwater fish to live with salt in their environments for longer than it takes to treat a disease. Sounds like someone else needs to do more research. lol

  • no they dont

  • @MicromashMovies you stupid fuck cichlids are perfect in brackish

  • @MicromashMovies you literally made my day your so fukin retarded you made me shit my pant i bet youre in special ed. do ome research dumb fuk

  • I have the same heater!!!

  • hey i thought that puffers and cichlids dont mix??O.o or do they?

  • im pretty sure they can since cichlids come from freshwater and brackish environments this one in particular is from freshwater, but fish are resilient if they aren't stressed a little aquarium salt wouldn't hurt.

  • @oddomar i meant dont they chase each other?

  • did u get the sand in a petstore? coudnt find any.

  • i think i might put 3 chicleds and a puffer ? in a 10 gallon tank is that ok ?

  • @TrueSplash will they be african because idt thats a good idea but hell give a swing

  • stupid tank setup and cool fish

  • where did you get your thermometer?

  • you can get a thermometer at any petco or petsmart, actually any pet store really.

  • a 10 gallon tank is good for 3 hermit crabs right?

  • ya easy

  • cool I'm keeping southern american ciclids. i think they look better than the africans so ever thought about switchin to southern american ciclids? you ten gallon can hold like 4 rams

  • maybe 4 rams if there was 1 male and 3 female, but no two male cichlids in a ten gallon

  • yeah, i dont even have that tank set up anymore, the cichlids are in a 75 gallon, and the puffers are in a 29

  • What did you do to the 10 gallon?

  • probably used it as a diy toilet bowl

  • What is the name of song?

  • are they semi agg?

  • Is this really 10 gallon ?? :S I think it is more than 10gallon.

  • Comment removed

  • hey amazing setup. i just wanted to ask how do you vacuum/clean that sand?

  • i never really had to...i changed the set up to river rocks since then...but i have another 29 gallon tank with the same sand in it and the cichlids are always foraging through the sand and that keeps it pretty clean so i dont really have to vacuum it...its pretty nice

  • If you had to vacuum/clean it how would u do it? Because I know the way you do the water change when you suck the stuff from the rock doesn't seem like it would work the same with the sand but I don't know. Have any ideal? And love the setup before they destroyed it.

  • where did you get that sand? Its pretty sick. I was going to get Tahitian moon black sand for my neon tetras but after seeing this idk

  • its just pool filter sand from any local pool/hot tub store...i got a 50 pound bag for like 12 bucks

  • r u gunna add ne more fish? i like the set up its cool

  • i'm currently working on a 125 gallon custom built fish tank/stand and i'm not quite sure if i'm going to put a bunch of cichlids in there or not

  • badass setup fo a small tank

  • haha thanks

  • thanks man...i just took my time setting it up

  • thats an amzing set up!!! howd you get it like that???

  • So your saying you have full brackish water

The only other benifical thing with cichlids and salt is to keep some symptoms away.

  • it is brackish for the puffer...and i just had the cichlids in there while i was setting up another tank for them...now the cichlids are in their new home...and the puffer is all alone with an albino bushy nose pleco

  • What size tank the the puffer in now? He'll need at least 30g. He'd also appreciate some more decor to keep him busy exploring. Be prepared to move him up to full marine when he reaches 5-6 inches, by the way.

  • So Since you have your puffer fish which is brackish you are adding salt to the tank?? Cichlids dont NEED salt but ive always used it to keep there stress down.

  • correct

  • ay i just wanted to ask u is it hard to have sand in ur tank like if u need to do ay water change or like the filter sucking it in

  • sand stays on the bottom pretty good even with really active fish...when they kick it up it almost immediately sinks back to the bottom way before it reaches the inlet to the filter....just wash it before you put it in your tank...i put a little bit in a bowl...then ran water over while stirring it with a spoon and let the water run over the bowl getting rid of any bacteria or anything that might harm your fish....any questions feel free to ask...

  • Be very careful with that puffer in there, they look cute, but they are close to homocidal. They've been known to, in just one day, completely de-fin every fish in their tank, even cichlids. Good looking tank though

  • yeah...its pretty much near impossible for me to keep a pleco in that tank

  • good tank

  • Awesome tank man.
