Other than missing the lyrics, he did actually do a very well job at performing this. He went on despite the errors.

It wasn't even that bad. C'mon, he was the youngest of the season, 17 at the time. In his spare time, he had to do schoolwork while everyone else was rehearsing. He had a lot on his shoulders.

Every week before and after, this boy had flawless performances. This just showed that he really did make mistakes.

in my opinion, this was his weakest performance, but it was STILL very strong, so i like to think of this performance of a weak-strong performance. and if this is the worst he can sound, than this kid might as well just WIN THE ENTIRE THING!!! GO LIL DAVE!!!!!

I've been a huge Archuleta fan after his Shop Around and Imagine performances. I don't care how big a fan you are ... you have to be deaf and biased not to realize how bad this performance was ...and I'm not even talking about forgetting the lyrics! It was pitchy ... and he was constantly second guessing himself throughout the performance ... sounded horrible.

David IS the BEST. Everyone else is nowhere near as good as him AND he's the youngest. He forgot his lyrics, so what? Name one person that has NEVER made a mistake. If you think he sucks people, go up there and try it yourself!

seriously people you try being the youngest contestant and going up there in front of 30 million people and do that. and everyone forgets words sometimes its only human and i think that makes him even more likeable but the fact that he actually kept going and pulled it together is amazing... it was actually a REALLY good performance.

I love David and all but I have to disagree with the defense because indeed he is the youngest but that season, he was one of the most experience performers, especially having performed on Star Search so while yeah, performing on that stage would still give him nerves, saying he's the youngest is no excuse.

Every other performance was amazing though.

You guys are making up excuses; you're putting him on pedestal cause he's cute. If he wasn't young or good looking, he'd be a GUARENTEED elimination.

A lot of contestants have gone home for flubbed lyrics, but because David is 'cute' and everybody just 'loves' him, nobody will care.

And that's not really fair to the other 11 who did their homework.

Compared to 6 or 7 others, this was bad.

Exactly! My favorite from Season 5, Melissa McGhee, also got the boot her first night in the Top 12 for, *surprise* forgetting her lyrics.

So why should this one be any different?Because the whole world just LOVES Archuleta and he can do no wrong.

You know if it was someone like Carly they'd be all over her. But no, because it's David A. they dismiss it and call it 'nerves,' while those same bimbos ROOT even harder for him.

I hope they have that same compassion for the others.

I assume you are better? Ok, listen up: David is the youngest and has the BEST voice ever! Ramiele, David H (but he;s gone already), Amanda Overmyer are nothing compared to his voice. Amanda can only do one still and it's husky, Ramiele has no stage presence and has a weak voice, and David.. well he;s average he would be better off as a news anchor. But, David is AMAZING and it's not his looks that are keeping him on!

Maybe he forgot a 'few' lyrics, but the whole performance was awkward! His 'Oh Yeahs' were weird and he tried to hit big notes but didn't get to them (he was always flat or sharp).

I'm not saying I am better, but compared to the others (Carly, Brooke, Jason, Michael, and even David H), they are all vocally superior.

And giving him praise because he's 'young' is like voting for Sanjaya for his hair, and for Taylor Hicks cause he's grey.

Sorry, but he is amazing and you know it. He forgot his lyrics because HE IS A PERSON and people are not perfect! Name one person who was perfect, is perfect, or will ever be perfect, please. I am not just giving him praise because he's young, he is VERY amazing at singing, too, whether you want to accept the fact or not. His "oh yeahs" were not weird as much you exaggerate. Carly screams too much, Brooke is average, Jason is really good but he can only do one style, Michael is average, etc.

But if we're judging on technicalities (Carly and her 'screaming' or Brooke and Michael and their 'averageness') then you're leaving out David's breathy voice and limited vocal range.

I don't excpect him to be perfect, but if he weren't as 'pimped' out by the show during Hollywood week, he'd be gone. And I stand by that.

'Imagine' was good. That 'Paradise' song was good. 'Heaven' I've heard better. And his audition was very average.

I just still really (REALLY) think you're trying to find good things to say cause he's a child among adult contenders and you're blindly defending him when there are several flaws that would take him down a few notches in the race to become the next American Idol (6th or 7th place at best is what he deserves).

He shouldn't win. But if he does, it won't be based on talent.

Out of all the Beatles songs, why this one? This could've been an amazing week for him. No one would have minded if he played the piano and sang another slow BEATLES song like he did the other week. I felt like this was a "throwaway" performance...not much thought put into it. The music arrangement was like a chipper cruise ship arrangement, and it didn't help that he wore a collared jacket and buttoned shirt with a pair of jeans. I think David is very talented, born with excellent vocal cords and a great disposition towards life. He is very likeable, but I just don't get the impression that he is that smart. Not that being the next newton, tesla or fourier is important with respect to being the next big music star; I just have the feeling that this wont be the last time he forgets the words.
