  • I did have a 3DO at one time, and it had some cool games. Escape from Monster Manor and Killing Time was two of my personal favorite games back then. This game had gorgeous music soundtrack and it was creepy and it was fun to me. I understand that not everybody going to like this game, but thanks for sharing.

  • this game would have been best if it was released in 1992, after Wolfenstein 3d, but before DOOM.

  • I played this game a lot. The narrator sometimes sang along with the music.

  • I agree, Traegorn, the game is fail XD

  • AVGN wannabe ?, and this review was short, no reason why u dont like it?.... Bullshit

  • @visara1313 Well, it's easy to feel passionate about this stuff.

Most people who review older games do it for one of two reasons: either they love them because they're old, or they like to rip on them for no good reason.

    I am neither of these.

My series of reviews is intended for modern retro gamers -- and I review them for current playability. Considering Electronic Gaming Monthly (home of the inflated score) only gave EFMM a 6.7/10 in 93, mine isn't the only bad review in existence.

  • @visara1313 Dude - I just clicked on your channel. That's it. You're the one sharing them with the world.

You tell me my review is wrong, but don't dispute that EFMM is far inferior to other games of the SAME GENRE released at the SAME TIME. You're hellbent on loving this game, and that's fine, but In my opinion, it's a bad game. If you think it deserves a better review, produce one yourself.

(Also, after turning 30 I never thought I'd be called a kid again)

  • @visara1313 Dude, how young do you think I am? I was playing 3DO games when they first came out. I was a teenager at the time, but still.

As for the Pac-Man comparison -- that's ridiculous. If Pac-Man came out in *1993*, touting itself as state of the art, it WOULD be criticized. Doom came out the same year as EFMM, and Wolfenstein 3D was already out for some time -- so comparisons ARE valid.

You can feel free to go back to your creepy fetish videos now.

  • @visara1313 For it's time, it was mediocre. I think you're looking at this came with Nostalgia.

This same year, Doom came out on the PC, and Wolfenstein 3D (which has a great 3DO version) blows EFMM out of the water.

EFMM is a weak example of the genre, and a weak example of a 3DO game. You can call me all the names you want, but that still won't change.

  • This game was actually pretty awesome for its time. Seventeen years ago...where has my life gone!?

  • @papatoony I really disagree. There were much better FPS out at the time even on the 3DO.

  • Thanks for doing these reviews dude, very nicely done.

  • Oh yay another game reviewer...

  • i remember getting motion sickness from that game (maybe having to do with the lack of floor and ceiling textures) and yes it was a crappy game

  • FPS = fail genre.

  • the floor and ceiling is dark, therefor to make a bit scarier.

think about it...would it really look better with a grey floor?

    no.

  • Dude your an arsewhole this game is great and scatty you honestly dont have a clue this game is amazing

  • Terrible review...

  • @TheSecondIDare AWESOME

  • i was about 5 when i first played this honestly and i truely did not enjoy it

  • It's a crappy shooter overall (too simple) but it's atmosphere and art is what made it cool

  • The issue with people like you reviewing older games is that you view them with a contemporary perspective. You end up becoming biased due to what you have become accustomed to.

Back in 1993 "Video Games and Computer Entertainment" (professional journalists) gave the game an 80.

  • One, the point of this series is to review games for people CURRENTLY playing 3DO games. If you watch my other videos, you'll see games that actually get some very good reviews.

Two, a magazine review giving a game an "80%" is actually not that great a review when you look at the inflation of video game review scores.

Three, there are much better first person shooters that were around in 1993. For pete's sake, this is the year DOOM came out, and EFMM wasn't even up to Wolfenstein standards.

  • EFMM had better graphics (less pixellated) than Wolfenstein 3D, and a better atmosphere (music, sounds). It was not Doom or The 7th Guest, but it was still considered high quality graphics when it came out. Because it is exclusive to 3DO, a 3DO player should know this title.

  • It was a good, fun game at the time, and somebody should hang you from the balls

  • I think that's a little too defensive to get over a video game.

    Especially one this terrible.

  • Well, it's not really. You totally tore it to shreds dude. It's not as bad as you're making it out to be.

  • was cool game they should make the monster manor 2 on pc .... ofcourse to nova day graphic..

  • Dude, you're crazy Monster Manor was the shit. One of the most fun and creepiest games. So the graphics weren't the greatest, who cares. It was fun. Agreed on Wolfenstein, that was a great one.

  • I agree with you except on one point. I think these kind of graphics WERE the greatest. Compared with snes and genesis which were the other systems out, this type of 3D visualization was the best you could get at the time outside of a $5000 computer, or perhaps Alien vs Predator on Jaguar.

  • For the time the graphics were awesome agreed. I was just comparing them to today's

  • nice, i want a hat like that as well

  • Loved this game as a kid. I was so young that I found this game hard.

  • Really great reviews, but if I had one complain it would be that they are way too short.

Internet reviews grows on you and you like them more and more over time. But when it's so short it's hard to grab on to something.

    I'll be watching...

  • Traegorn! This IS Stefan Henry-Biskup. Fakk28, Thanks man I am glad you enjoyed the game. We made that game in 6 months and that was 16 YEARS ago!

  • If you really are... then this was the best comment ever.

  • nice review! bit short but so true, lol.

btw I think it's called "Norowareta Tachi" in japan ... not sure.

  • I try to keep reviews under 3 minutes - this ran long because of the bit at the end about renaming the show.

The Japanese name really is "Virtual Horror - Norowareta Yakata" though.
