  • I'll also add that i'm from Australia and I feel it's less accepted here as being genuine. In America, it's more accepted and often I wonder whether that's because the drug companies love an illness to market a range of drugs at... Here there is no prescribed drug..

  • Thank you for a very educational explanation of the CNS in fibromyalgia. I was diagnosed at age 28 and I am now 48. It's been a long 20yrs. Everything that you discussed made sense to me as a patient. I hope that more Dr.s will come to understand this disease in order to help their patients. I was at a lost at 28yrs old. I thought I had some horrible disease that was going to kill me. Glad to find out later it wasn't. Thanks again for the lecture and hope more people will watch and get informed.

  • @julsjuls2009 It isn't a disease though it's not degenerative, and it's strange to have an illness where a bunch of professionals call it that when it's not the way it functions. I tend not to tell people I have it and hide what I go through a lot because a lot of professionals say that it's just depression, or it's just that your muscles hurt because you don't eat well. I eat well I feel the same. Extremely frustrating illness that no one has any real answers.

  • nice video sharing thanks.

  • I can't believe some of the quacks on the comments and people who did not take a single word of this in! Dr Mackey has worked exceptionally hard to gain his qualifications like most *real* doctors, and he'd be the first to do a follow up on the update if the information and research changes. (you know what they call alternative medicine that works.....medicine)

This was a great video and very helpful with my education of my illness, I will recommend this to my own doctors.

  • My symptoms have been really bad lately--after feeling good for a few weeks, it comes roaring back and it takes so much out of me. It SUCKS! Sometimes I can barely function.

  • @Gitsie007: There is Naturopathic approach for fibromyalgia.

  • fibromyalgia is only a testosterone deficiency. Had a friend with the worst fibro symptoms for years. Some doctor got him on testosterone injections and within two weeks all pain and symptoms went away.

  • There may be a link between fibromyalgia and stress from exposure to electromagnetic fields. The symptoms are similar to those who suffer from extreme hyperelectrosensitivity.

  • Thank you so much. This helps me understand much more.. is anyone else interested in the link between Fibro and Psychic ability..

  • Contrary to popular belief, Fibromyalgia is a neurological disease not rheumatological, and arises from a mechanism known as central sensitization, which relates to a heightened response to pain. Also it is under investigation as an auto-immune illness, with possible viruses at play. Low serotonin and an increase in substance P is associated as well. It strikes very healthy people too. Please continue to fund this debilitating illness.

  • I would like to point out that Tramadol has worked for me for 3 years. I refuse to take more than one pill and I will not take a pill that has some of the scarier side effects. I think that, much like the issues with the differences in each fibro patient I think many of the medications work for some and not for other.

  • I've been on about every pill known to mankind. The SSRI/NSRI meds gave me horrendous side effects and made me want to kill myself. The anticonvulsants did nothing for my pain but did make me drooling stupid. Tricyclics were snooze city no matter how early in the evening I took them. How you think about pain does make a difference ... up to a point. The only thing that has given me meaningful relief is low dose methadone. Not pain free, but I can finally function!

  • Can anyone tell me if being nausea a system?

  • @ProverbsQueen1 I find that I have nausea due to the fatigue, so, yes, it could be.

  • @ProverbsQueen1

Ask your Dr. to check you for H-Pylori. I went to 8 different doctors---the one I have now listened to my symptoms and she checked me that day. Didn't help with fibro, but I'm not sick to my stomach all the time now too.

  • Absolutely awesome lecture on Fibromyalgia! Thank you for such great, accurate info!

  • Thank you this helped i'm younger then 13, and i'm really sore this really helped. Thank you.

  • I would recommend any one with fribromyalgia to watch this

  • Great video and excellent info! Bravo Dr. Mackey! Quiet lengthy but well worth it.. Hope to see more of these and current ones would be rather uplifting, not to mention being educationally updated. Thank you for sharing this info with us.. Hebrews 11:1

  • Thank you for your help, wish the doctors would take notice and give me the support I need.Instead I am penalized and have virtually no support, and in fact my GP lied over my health to the benefits agency. Sad old World we live in

  • The best I have heard about it so far. Thanks for this.

  • This is the best explanation I have seen for Fibromyalgia. I was dx in 1998. Please keep researching it is so hard to get doctor's to listen and believe what we are going thru sometimes. I have added this to my blog where I advocate for understanding and research. Once you have a cause we will defitely be able to receive more complete treatment to keep control of ourselves

  • Wonderful way to accept fibromyalgia. I never thought of it in this way. This should be of great help to all of us who suffer. Thank you for such wonderful information.

  • also alot of similar problems are caused by mercury, flouride, & various toxins,- thryroid problems, detox & renourish your body for a few months then see, what problems you have left,

  • good info video. Not counting injury, FM usually is sicological caused which causes fisiolgical problems, nerves/ chemical degradation & imbalance, often dealing with incidents of emotional /physical abuse will help Heal the cause. Abuse problems are- bad sleep, nervous, fear, worry /dread, moods, anxiety, lack of self love / confidence, edginess / sensitivity, bad dreams, stiffness, fatigue, digestive, focusing, swelling, circulation, electrical signals, blood pressure etc,= same as FM ,

  • @iseecheese I certainly hope you aren't a physician (with the way you spell I doubt it) because you're waaaay off base. I'd hate to think you are telling things like this to people who need real help. Did you really watch this presentation????

  • I have given birth 3 time's having 4 children,I would rather the pain of childbirth..then I had a double disc buldge with a tear,I then had surgery for, I would rather the pain from this than how I feel now....I now have fibro it is the full body muscle pain that bring's me down.................any idea's out there for me ???

  • Do research on glutathione. It is the master antioxydant in our body. By taking the precursors of glutathion (not raw glutathione) you will be pain free. I do not have pain anymore and I have a great life. You don't believe me... well I guess you have to try it to believe it. There is a company called Max International that created a good product called MaxGXL. Good luck to all of you. Sincerely

  • Has anyone actually found a better way to help better people with FMS?...insted of Pumping them with a million pills?...My dads got it and having my dad have pills with havent help, do nothing, he'd rather not take them, so does anyone actually have a cure or somthing to better them?...

  • @Duckssss91 yes email me

  • @Duckssss91: There is a Hevnawe naturopathic approach that deals with Lupus; Multiple Sclerosis; Fibromyalgia and Myasthenia Graves. It should still be posted on my channel in the comment section, if not then email me and it will be reposted.

  • check EFT and Fibromyalgia videos

  • Take a look at video EFT and Fibromyalgia - the tapping solution. You'll thank God!

  • If this is just perceived pain and not actual objective muscle stiffness, then why does taking a high dose of magnesium, which releases the ion channels in the muscles and lets the muscles release, cause the pain to go away for a few hours? Why can't the muscles move, jaw open all the way, if it is just perceived pain, rather than an actual muscle problem?

  • @MrApplewine muscles react to pain. even if it isn't real, the brain thinks it is, so the muscles tense in response.

  • @mywingsareyours Ok, but this is just a hypothesis with no evidence at the clinical level. No test. Also how would you tell if the pain in the brain is the cause of the stiff muscle, or the stiff muscle is the cause of the pain in the brain. You can't establish causality this way. The central sensitivity hypothesis has no clinical evidence any more than chronic seronegative lyme disease, both are about as valid either way, right or wrong, I don't know.

  • @MrApplewine Actually there is a great deal known and published about central pain augmentation or sensitization. Substance P (main pain neuromodulator) is increased some 400% in the CSF of FMS patients (Russel, et al), and 5HT (Serotonin) which in the spinal cord helps to reduce ascending pain signals is decreased by about 50%. So there is an increase in pain signal transmission, which can now be visualized in the brain using fMRI studies (UMich, among others).

  • @theneuroperson There is also myofascial pain syndrome, which appears to be caused by micro ischemic muscle nodules in the muscle. Additionally, all of the markers for fibromyialgia showing increased pain do not prove which direction the causality goes in. If a person is in pain you would expect pain biomarkers to be higher.

  • @mywingsareyours I agree fully,I can manage the pain but when the muscle pain spread's from head to toe that is what brings me down to the ground with a thud...

  • Thank you for posting this.

  • id10t

  • I believe, that the fibromyalgia IS CAUSED by stress, which affects the brain, and so the premature aging and all those unpleasant symptoms are result of being in under extreme, continuous stress for long time. It is a body's response to it - saying "no" to stress. No wonder that this disease is suddenly so common - there are so many people under too much stress! Especially existencional stress - obviously that triggers also depression, which slows down metabolism....etc.

  • @quantumada That's exactly what caused mine, so you're right on there! :) xx

  • do blood tests pick up this condition? or is it like M.E..?

  • @SovereignBeing FMS has been linked to a virus which can be detected In blood test results as I have had Fibro since I was a child but I did not get it investigated until I was 16 & I actually tested positive for Lupus, FMS is one of those conditions which can be caused by several factors so trying to pin point what caused your Fibro can be difficult.

  • @casperblackcat1975 um I think you're thinking of CFS/ME that is linked to a virus

  • @SovereignBeing No FMS isn't picked up by any blood tests

  • Thank you for your research I have looked up so much about this illness I was diagnosed with this in 2003 about 5 months after a vehicle accident and loads of trauma the previous year. I was fortunate to have a switched on doctor who suspected that I may have this which was confirmed. I go up and down with this and manage to work 20-25 hours a week at times it is not possible and I am bed ridden. Hydrotherapy pool and walking in it helps. Rain and cool weather and stress trigger me

  • Fibromyalgia is linked to oxidative stress.

The only supplement on the planet to reduce oxidative stress in human cells is Protandim.

You will be hearing about it soon enough on TV.

    Get relief now.

  • An excellent, informative, and very clear explanation of this direction in Fibromyalgia research. It's reassuring to learn what they believe is happeneing in the body and provides some hope for the future. Thanks for making this address available to us.

  • glutamate is the cause of pain and must be stopped! Memantine is a good way of antagonizing glutamate.

  • Tramadol is absolutely terrible. I was on 200mg/day for about 5 months- my physician claimed because it was a non-opiate working on opioid receptor sites that side effects would be minimal. it decreased my pain and lifted my mood- until I missed a dose. What I thought was my fibro pain was just the beginning of a hellish 3 week withdrawal. Do as much research on any medication as you can. The best options lie within that of your emotional reactions to the pain!

  • @GlynnisO I take the same dose as you did but for me it only makes the pain bearable & on some days I still find it very hard to function on a very basic level which is very frustrating, Another problem I have is sleep I'm lucky if I get 3 hours of sleep a night & the doctor doesn't want to put me on any more medication because I have to take 8 different kinds of medications & that's for Fibro & other health issues I have.

  • For me, Tramadol has made my life bearable. Yes, if you take any drug that manipulates the opiate receptors it will trigger withdrawal symptoms. This is why you should step down on any pain meds over a long period of time and then eliminate it. Any pain medicine also hurts the liver. But, I'm sorry, I'd rather have a higher quality of life and hurt my liver, than be in constant severe pain everyday.

  • I have several friends in Europe that take oral flupirtine that go back to having a more pain free life.

Do a simple web search for

    Effirma or flupirtine

And the lack of side effects with it, bonus. It is time the FDA Approve it now !!!!

  • @PowerRedBull I am sorry to say but there have been studies that pretty much confirm that this is not the case. I have fibro too and my illness was definitely not caused by a virus, it was caused by very high stress. The study never actually confirmed anything to do with a retrovirus, it was just an idea. This idea/theory has been proven to be wrong in recent studies. Sorry to burst ur bubble but it's true. You can find the article on science daily .com

  • Comment removed

  • @PowerRedBull I remember this article & It also stated that the Canadian blood service was not going to accept donations from people who suffered from CFS or Fibro because of this virus, Each Fibro case is different & can be caused by several factors so it's not a one size fits all kind of Illness.

  • Never give up. This disease can be cured.

  • I believe that fuits and vegetables can reduce inflammation in joints!

I started taking Mona Vie Active for my shoulder pain and now I don't have to take Vicodin before I go to bed!

My wife has fibromyalgia, she feels a lot better when she drinks it as well!

If you seriously want the Monavie Active, go to juiceberg's channel! They will hook you up!

  • @redthor60 There is no active inflammation linked with Fibromyalgia. If she has inflammation that is caused by Myofascial Pain Syndrome, not fibro.

  • @PowerRedBull Sorry but that didn't make a lot of sense at all.

  • Comment removed

  • @Badgerinthenight Maybe you should read the post carefully before you comment !

YOU should read it again thank you.

  • @redthor60 I did, but I was just telling you that there is no inflammation. Don't see what's wrong with that.

  • This is fantastic. Thank you so much.

  • No bama!

  • I was DX with fibro in 1990. I had spinal fusion surgery and carpel tunnel surgery in Feb. I am still having terrible nerve shocks in my hand. It is terrible. I knew through research that the nervous sysytem was affected...but it is so good to hear. There are days that I want to give up...but I know I can't.

  • My trauma was 05-08 it was several different things in a span on 3 yrs. Involving a breakup, my mom had a stroke and then she died. I was devastated. I was diagnosed 11-09. Daily I feel like I have been hit by a mac truck or been in a fight and got my butt whipped or like I've worked out for 10 hrs straight. I like what he said about feeling worse after exercise. Why doesn't my dr understand that?! It's hard enough to even get up to exercise. I just don't feel like it.

  • @Teresa6538 Get a different doctor, I did. I'm almost 60 yrs. old, I've had fibro & CFS since the 7th grade, for years I was told it was all in my head. In 1992 I was diagnosed correctly...so keep looking for a doctor wh knows and cares, they're out there.Good luck.

  • OMG - THIS VIDEO IS SO COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!! Finally a way for me to teach my friends and family to understand what is going on with me. The fact that HE IS A MD, PHD AND THE CHIEF DIRECTOR AT STANFORD UNIVERSITY IS JUST THE ICING ON THE CAKE!!!

  • @donibrat54 smoke more weed doni

  • Thank you very much. Thanks to this video, I realized that my brother was probably misdiagnosed with fibromyalgia. In fact, it is more likely that he's got myofascial pain syndrome instead.

  • Maybe there is hope for us after all? We can only hope!

  • YAY!!! FINALLY!!! At least we're in a diff direction! I was VERY impressed with whole video. Soooo easy to understand and soooo logical. I cannot wait til it's out on the market for all of us that suffer this horrible disease. Only wish I could retrieve ALL the money I wasted on everything else out there that "claims" to heal fibromyalga! Now THAT'S a depressing thought!!

  • I thought this was very informative.... the brain atrophy is a bit scarey... hope they clarify that soon.

  • wow you must not have watched the same show i did...or are not affected by this illness enough to understand exactly what has been said here as to the reality of pain that FM sufferers really live every single day.

  • @stiffkneck: As a medical professional myself, I have to agree with you this guy is talking a load of generalized shit. This a true waste of time for an advance mind.

  • @4chango really glad you dont have fibro and even better you don't treat it

  • @mscindylut Part 2: On the other hand naturopathics approach the cause of the client’s issues and with real results. Working in both the allopathic and naturopathic environment I see better results in the natural world.

  • @mscindylut Part 1: Actually you are partially right. Allopathic practitioners treat the end results of the dis-ease with no success. This is why allopathics call the person suffering from the illness patients, because when they are treating you, you will need a lot of patience to see results. And even after you get your insufficient results you will have the disease and die with it.

  • @mscindylut: Before you attack someone, maybe you should look beyond your eyes and ignorance and ask yourself a few questions. Why does this person express this view? What is the person’s background? Why are the Insurance, Pharmaceutical companies and the AMA spending so much money lobbying against and trying to kill the naturopathic world? Why is it that the naturopathic consumer is more educated and aware of the health and medical industry than allopathic consumers? And the list goes on….

  • @4chango Sooo....Medical professional eh! Where did you get these lovely medical qualifications? Occupation:

Doctorate of Metaphysical Science, Homeopathic Medicine, Master Herbalist, Naturopathy, Professional Exorcist, Eleven Generation Abakuá Shaman

    Companies:

    Hevnawe Medical Enterprise.

Why don't you have a medical PhD from a proffesional university hospital?

  • @ragegrrl Part 9: As for shamanism it is clear that you have no clue on hard difficult and even impossible it is to become a bloodline shaman. It is easier for a person to earn 1000 PhD’s and go through 50 years of medical residency than to become a “real” Shaman. A shaman is a man of real knowledge, knowledge that makes the most educated person seem as nothing more than a kindergarten student, but of course you are nothing more that a fool wishing to heard so you have no clue of this.

  • @4chango Part 10.... I have plenty of clues, I am a sha-woman of amazing power, born through the blood of the Norse, I am a daughter of Frayja! I command the spirits of the wisest of spirits, I was just testing you, you will be sent a spirit with this message...."your stupid is showing"

  • @4chango Shame this account was closed :-p

  • @4chango 4chan...go! :-p

  • @ragegrrl Just talking to myself now, sorry!

  • @ragegrrl Part 8: With exorcism this is the spiritual ability to overstand and deal with the spiritual essence and turmoil a person maybe dealing with. For any individual to deny the existence of spirits and life after death is nothing more than pure primitive mental stupidity.

  • @4chango spiritual doesnt go with science, there is no such thing as a spirit(atleast not in the sense of something that outlives the body) I have fibromyalgia and i agree that the majority of chemical drugs do not cure, they just hide the problem(pain). That can be better than suffering though and there are chemical drugs out there that cure. You seem to have some new age spiritual agenda. I agree that a natural fix is better than a chemical one but modern medicine is chemical treatment

  • @LifesMyWife Part 5: This is also how the GAGUT equation was created in order to prove the existence of a spiritual source or creator. Of course people as your self will not be able to overstand this, because you believe that you have fibromyalgia and need drug to control you; but it is obvious that even that statement will go over your head.

  • @LifesMyWife Part 4:Due to amount of energy it took to power the trillions of humans, animals, plants and particles that have existed in this third dimensional realm. To say that spiritual does not go with science and that nothing exists beyond the human body prove to me that the mass majority of human minds are completely retarded. Even Einstein said that in order to come up with the theory of relativity he had to forget and look beyond empirical science and focus on the science of spirituality.

  • @LifesMyWife Part3:If I plug in a radio & it becomes animated it is considered live by the laws of physics,a science that can't prove the cause due to its inability to manifest its process in the physical, but can display the end results. Now when I unplug the radio and the energy returns to the source, the radio would be considered dead. You are telling me that the energy that was used to turn on the radio is no long in existence? If that was the case than the planet would be in complete darkness.

  • @LifesMyWife Part 2:How is teaching and healing people for free bring me any personal gains or profits? Fourth, what is it with this whole dumb media term “New Age”? Spirituality has been around since the creation of the planet, when did a trillion year old evidence of energy whether within a body or a planet became new? Fifth, you say that there is no spirit or anything that out lives the body. You keep sounding like more of a backwoods’ idiot with every remark.

  • @LifesMyWife Part 1: Modern would be a type of medicine that addresses the causes of current illnesses and not just the symptoms. This is what makes traditional medicine more modern than Dark Age medicine. Second, you mention that there are chemical drugs out there that cure, name three? Thirdly, you said that I have a “new age” spiritual agenda. This has got to be one of the stupidest remarks I have heard. In order to have an agenda one must have a personal motivation.

  • @LifesMyWife Part 0: You say that a natural fix would be better, but modern medicine only uses chemicals? First, keep in mind that allopathic is not modern, but Dark Age medicine.

  • @ragegrrl Part 7: Plus considering the history and presence of Allopathic medicine from injecting deadly vaccines into people, sterilizing Puerto Rican women, infecting Black males with diseases and watching them die, cutting out organs because of the lack of scientific knowledge, treating dis-ease with toxic chemicals and treating mental health with electrocution, it would seem that they are not qualified to deal with human lives.

  • @ragegrrl Part 6: Also Allopathic do not diagnoses. Diagnoses mean divine knowledge. It is impossible for allopathic to have divine knowledge, unless they were highly spiritual and did not use computers data. Allopathic uses machine data to pick the most likely results of the symptoms and not the cause. Take away an allopathic's machines and pharmaceuticals chemicals and you have a clueless and useless individual.

  • @ragegrrl Part 5: As a matter of fact it is an oxymoron for allopathic doctors to use the title “doctor of medicine”. For one doctor means teacher, when was the last time you have ever seem a doctor teach a patient to heal and know the cause of a disease. Second allopathic uses “DRUGS”, not medicine to control symptoms. Medicine can not be extracted naturally from plants and isolated into a chemical. If anything Allopathic Doctors should be called “Doctors of Chemical Drugs”.

  • @ragegrrl Part 4: Herbalist is a person that study’s medicinal effects and practical use of natural items to improve the spiritual, emotional and physical body’s ability to heal. Keep in mind that pharmaceuticals isolate chemical found in herbs to created dry drugs. As for the naturopathic, unlike the allopathics who used concentrated drugs (whose negative affects out weigh its positive effects), naturopathic uses real medicine to heal.

  • @ragegrrl Part 3: Allopathic is the youngest (about few hundred years) and ayuvedic, oriental, shamanism and ancient kemetic medicine being the oldest by thousands of years. In other words to say that allopathic is the only medicine is like says that your son created your great, great, great, great grandfather. Homeopathic Medicine is the science of creating a similar effect on the body to reduce the manifestation of symptoms and helping the body to develop a stronger tolerance to the cause.

  • @ragegrrl Part 2: As a matter of fact Allopathic medicine is not even a “real” medical science, but the practice of trial and error applications. The entrance to medical school requires only about 32 credits in basic remedial science courses. The first two year in med school focus on repeating the basic science courses and the last two years a med student does nothing but follows a practitioner around and writes paper of what he saw and not did. Remember that there are many types of medicine.

  • @ragegrrl Part 1: Unfortunately with the way the world is shifting it is not likely that idiotic ignorance such as yours can not be ignored, but rather must be addressed. Let us examine the your posting of titles. First metaphysical science if you knew anything of metaphysics than you would overstand that all sciences were born from metaphysics and in the modern world Metaphysics is studied under the title of Quantum Physics, something allopathic knows nothing of.

  • @ragegrrl Part 0: Usually when ever one receives such an idiotic comment such as yours, it is best practice to ignore. But-

  • This lecture hits on a lot of points for me. When he mentioned "clothes" I finally broke down in tears. I thought I was crazy becasue sometimes my bra makes the muscle between my rib cage flare up by at least 1". My accupunturist freaked out when she first saw me like that.

  • OMG! I never heard anyone else mention their ribs before. My left rib gets huge and makes my chest ache. I was first told I had a tumor and needed surgery!! Then was sent for a CT scan that was clear. Then I've been told over and over for yrs that I keep pulling my ribs out! I bet it's my fibro. Makes sense.

  • @Teresa6538 Smoke a little bit of cannabis, before bedtime. get on An SNRI for the day :) :*

  • I was a normal, healthy person until I became pregnant and had a very rough pregnancy and a very traumatic birthing experience. (23+ hours in hard labor ending in a c-section that caused significant trauma).

If I had to pinpoint it, I'd say that was when my fibro manifested itself. :(

  • my CFS/FM happened immediately after the birth of my 2nd child...he was born 6 weeks premature and happend so fast...i literally delivered him myself. very traumatic...got very ill immediately and never recovered...liver enzymes shot way up off the scale...

  • @TAMMERA59 I am a recovered fibromyalgic who left the medical profession to discover the cause and cure for this horrific illness, and I am living proof that FMS can be cured. After 15 years of failed treatment, I finally found my way back to health in alternative treatment. Please do not give up from failed hope and check out my video "Curing Chronic Fibromyalgia - Choosing What Works", follow it to my website and keep going!!! Best wishes!

  • Very informative discussion by Dr. Sean Mackey, assistant professor of anesthesia at the Stanford University Medical Center. Thank you.

  • Oh great, now I have a shrinking brain!

  • It's about time they started looking at the CNS instead of just putting everyone on antidepressants! Now maybe we can get other researchers to do more and find a better way to help us!!!!

  • AMEN!!!

  • Very informative, long, but easy to understand. Naltrexone...hmmmm

  • It's still working.................

  • Fibromyalgia is not a "mysterious illness". That's a totally idiotic claim.

  • I really enjoyed this talk, very informative....
