hi, i can do as well as that but in some kind of piece like for example any paganini´s caprices, or in a song, some images where it goes well with the sound he produces, but what he does in the video is an exhibition of what he can do, and for his reputation as a guitarrist it is nothing of a talent, the talent lies on how and where to apply it. your right, its not really an improvisation, its a warm up, he actually writes really good stuff, but this is to get his fingers moving for when he plays on stage.
Why must you lower yourself to calling names? I respect Cooley when it comes to his chops but, like I said this clip shows no improvisation at all. Rusty is far too diatonic with his chord progressions and because those kind of chord changes are so simple with so few notes one starts to play the same notes and tones over and over again. It's not a knock on him it's just the facts about his playing.
These shred kids are all the same. They get wowed by speed. Indeed improvisation? Well, let's see, I think improvisation is spontanious composition All Rusty is doing in the clip is playing exercises. It's not spontanious composition. I wish these shred kids would learn what it means to see the fretboard as one big scale so they could truely understand what spontanious composition is.

cooley is sick, but he isn't perfect so fuck all the people who constantly rip on him for the few flaws he has in his playing style. although i would like to hear him play a little slower and try to play with feeling for once, all he ever does is go 100 miles an hour. there has to be another side

I really don't think he has that much string noise when he plays you have to take into consideration a couple of things which is that this is a shitty mic recording him and that he uses emg 707s which pick up EVERYTHING, even so I don't hear all the string buzz you are talking about

I absolutely love to see kick ass shredding, no mistake. Guys who play at light speed can still (and usually do, even though few can actually recognise it) play very musically. But this is insanely boring. Im sure theres better evidence of this mans talent

hi, i can do as well as that but in some kind of piece like for example any paganini´s caprices, or in a song, some images where it goes well with the sound he produces, but what he does in the video is an exhibition of what he can do, and for his reputation as a guitarrist it is nothing of a talent, the talent lies on how and where to apply it. Did he ever applyied these kind of triads in his music, i dont know. I did, i have some demos if you want to hear.

thats augmented triads played 3 notes a string (ie an 8 fret stretch!), a technique he acknowledges he got from Shawn Lane. If you check my site hakanozel dotcom theres an audio clip of me doing the same. not as well tho!

Technically jaw dropping, but come on he's, just flying up and down scales in a aimless fashion. Shredders like Gilbert and Petrucci are so much more appealing when they mix shred licks with slower ones. Shred non-stop is hard to take especially when it's this fast

Why is everyone bitching? All geetar players are different. Joe pass would eat this guy when it comes to note choice, petrucci's roffs are better but rusty has great technique ( although Shawn Lane's is better, i dont really include shawn in debate as he is was not even human when it came to playing guitar!)

Teh point is that people cares about music, so thats why nobody likes him, and about shawn, I really don't like him, he also plays stuff that is too fast. Hmm, Shawn could play similar stuff to this when he wanted. I prefer Shawn's feel and compositional style. Although having said that I have only heard a few of Rusty compositions from his new cd when I was at a friend's place. Both Shawn Lane and Rusty Cooley are good. Leave it at that.

Why must you lower yourself to calling names? I respect Cooley when it comes to his chops but, like I said this clip shows no improvisation at all. Rusty is far too diatonic with his chord progressions and because those kind of chord changes are so simple with so few notes one starts to play the same notes and tones over and over again. It's not a knock on him it's just the facts about his playing.
