I remember my z3 m coupe that was my fast M3. and I god 4x M3's my z3 was fukn faster then my e46 m3. or my evo e36 m3. z3 M coupe is normaly the same like a e46 m3csl! and I'm no scientist... but I think once your up and going those 19's aren't slowing you down that much compared to 17's... the extra guy in the car will make a huge difference though especially in a car that's sole advantage over it's opponent is it's weight, was the other car driving solo?...{and sorry for the spelling in my other message}

the reason the z3 doesnt pull away, is because he has 19's which have a much larger rotational mass then a a17inch, estimate about 10 lbs for front 15 lbs for rear each, thats a lot more weight to spin then little 17's, also stated earlier the drag coefficient is much higher because more then likelly those are 9.5 or 10inch wide rear tires as apposed to the m3s 8.5inch rear tire. thers a lot that comes into play there.

bottom line, stock vs stock the z3 will walk away.

But i don't think the Z3 will pull away when stock vs stock, the M3 had 1 passenger of 110kg, the Z3 didn't. Also the aerodynamics of the M3 are better, the M3 also got a (stock) slightly shorter diff and pulls a little harder because of that ;)

main reason why z3 finally loses that race is it's much worse cw drag coefficient which is most important at higher speeds.

19'' rims additionally slow down the car.

They are both Euro spec M's and both use the same engine 3.2 S50 (321HP). S54 engine was only buildt in 2001/2002.

Reason why the E36 might be faster is that the Z3M is on 19"rims vs 17" for the E36..

my e36 m3 evo does the same to Z3m coupes.. always side by side until 4th gear then it pulls away..!!

Man just the other day i pulled up next to a Z3M Coupe. I own a '97 328is E36, Turboed<----don't know if that is an actual term that i can use but anyway, the funny thing was that we were about to race a bit until i spotted a cop. Apparently he didn't see the cop, so when the lights turned green he went full throttle and the cop caught him. When i looked for the driver when he was pulled over i saw an old grandpa and i was like WTF? lol funny story, huh?

Depends on what M coupe it is, only the euro spec m coupes with the s54 have that many ponies. If it was a us spec younger than a 2001 than it only has 240

Pretty even race. Those 19 inch wheels will not help that Z either. They must be heavy. I bet the tires are pretty wide as well. Such a huge rotation mass, will suck some power for sure.

Hey man don't get mad!!! Shit always happens right just look forward for another M3 and get over it. I crashed to BMWs for the last 3 years, and non of the crashes was by my fault. In 2006 I destroyed my E34 530 ( the V8 engine) and in march 2009 i crashed an E36 323 sedan. Don't worry, Be Happy :D :D life goes on. Hope this will help you to forget the horrible thing!!!

De M3 heeft een 6-bak, de Z3 een 5-bak, maar volgens mij verschillen de bak verhoudingen van de 1e 5 versnellingen nauwelijks of niet. We schakelden steeds gelijk.
