Sorry to say but this isn't limited to China alone. As someone who has been living in South-East Asia, I've seen situations WAY worst than this. And I am pretty sure it is common everywhere around the globe aswell.

Here in California you can find live fish, frogs, and turtles in almost any Asian supermarket. It's commonplace. You can also find live lobsters, clams, mussels and other shellfish in most upscale Western markets. I guess we just have a better standard of living here.

hate to break it to ya but its no worse than what we do to sea food here in the states. We keep our lobsters and crabs the same way, and don't even get me started on betta fish...we keep them in tiny cups and then proceed to move them to bowls that are no bigger. At least these animals will be eaten and their life is short in these tanks.

@newtonsecondlaw Turtle is actually really good, its kinda greasy, but its got a mild savory flavor. Now I'm saying this as I'm cringing, only because I have an emotional attachment to turtles. But as a kids we didn't have food and when we caught a turtle it meant we could eat turtie stew for a couple days. It tastes good but it makes me sad...= )

Sorry to say but this isn't limited to China alone. As someone who has been living in South-East Asia, I've seen situations WAY worst than this. And I am pretty sure it is common everywhere around the globe aswell.
As much as I feel sorry for these animals, it is already a part of our culture. Change is good, and I am willing to support animal rights for cases like this, but it requires alot of effort. Effort that many people are not willing to compromise.
