Thanks, and thanks for the comment. That "woods alligator" is the remnant on a tree that toppled. The tree(s) fall completely over pulling up a small root-ball, the root-ball and tree rot and wash away leaving a half buried tree and rotted root mass that (to me) resemble alligators floating in swampy water. When viewed directly in line from the root end they seem to resemble horned dragons or alligators (with the assistance of a vivid imagination). Take Care. Dave
Thanks. I had a fine time that day, peaceful like. I've made Bulz a few additional times and will include it in my elk camp meals this year (2011). Take Care. Dave.
I'm going to search a bit more and find Branza cheese then also include some small sausages next time. I'll probably make it a few times here in the house and use the oven... the rain is so unpredictable here that I might forget how to cook it before the next good rainfall ; ).
Hello Dave, my good friend, haha, sorry for the cold, but good friends sharing everything : ) Very good Tarp set up. Wow, great work with the flint and steel, in this conditions, fantastic. Thank You my friend ; ) Good cooking! Enjoy your meal ; ) Thanks for this great Video! All the best and Blessings Sepp
@Waldhandwerk Sepp my friend, I thought you might like the cold remark : ). I like to get out and move around when I'm feeling poorly, I feel the extra air through the lungs helps them stay clear. The cattail I used for tinder flashes but doesn't burn very long, the dry rotted wood caught well. Thank you again for the fine knife and other items. The Bulz is a good recipe for camp, I'll use it this fall in the mountains of Colorado. Take care, best to you and your family. Dave
Terrible day, with the weather and all. What was the actual recipe? One thing I don't get ,is why don't you carry a cig lighter or matches. I have been going into the outdoors for the past 55 years and always carry one or the other with some bike tube or tyre tube to start a fire. What did the bluz tast like , was it nice or just keep you alive.
Keep the dvds coming. Good luck ,better weather next time.
This was my first attempt at Bulz, I got the recipe from watching a video by BushCraftMyWay. I also found other recipes during a web search for Bulz recipe.
The Bulz I made was good, I used Feta cheese as I couldn't find Branza. It was very easy to prepare.
I like to try alternate methods to start a fire, I know I can use a match or lighter but a bow drill, flint/steel and plow are good practice.
nice video. got a question tho at the very end what is a woods alligator?

Looked fun, the sound of the rain made me want to go grab my wool blankie and sit close to the fire. Enjoyed the vid.

Thanks, I enjoyed making it.
The rain was a bonus for this outing, the temperature was about 50F with a light breeze so not too bad.
