When i had my Tuscan i was told to drive it under 3000 revs for 15 min before giving it a good wack...which i did and bever had any problems...apart from the windscreen wipers falling off at 150 mph : ) AWESOME AWESOME CAR!
all i can say is i know where i belong. 1: Get my gear on. 2: kiss mother in law or wife bye. 3: Wheel motorbike out backwards and flatten little 3 year old playing in the passageway. 4: apologise to parents of 3 year old, proceed to get helmet and gloves on. 5: Once gloves on, start motorbike and realise the dog has not been fed. 6: stop bike, run in, shove dog food in bowl and run out again. 7: start bike, sweatty betty jump on, visor steams up, forget to shut garage door. 8: F... it! Just go!
I hope that bloke warmed it up properly before revving the engine like that. Oil tremperature needs to be a minimum of 50 degrees before putting your foot down!
he didn't put his foot down... and no, modern engines often read in the driver's manual that they do not need to be warmed up before the revs are applied.
Absolutely - And the fact that they spent extra money on developing the car to iron out little niggles means its probably the most solid one they built to date
Sounds angry. I'll never forget the first time I saw (and heard) a Tuscan drive by me in person on a trip to London. Too bad they're illegal here in the US.
The point of the airbag is absorb some of the energy taken in by your internal organs in the event of a crash. In general it is a system that works well but in a car like this where you are strapped up against the seat it isn't really necessary.
Having said that ABS is a great idea if you want to stop the car under control - however it does lengthen the stopping distance so the Jury is still out on it.
I've driven a Tuscan and practiced panic stops on a wet road. I can tell you from personal experience that TVRs don't need ABS.
ABS is just a band-aid fix for bad engineering. If you design the brakes right, you don't need ABS. ABS is for cars that are too heavy for their brake disks and have over-assissted hydraulic brakes to compensate for this. If you do that, you turn the brake pedal into an "on/off" switch and you need ABS to keep the wheels from locking.
I've driven a Tuscan before (regular, not the "S") and at normal speeds, it can stop plenty fast without ABS - unless the road is icy... and if that's the case, you're going to hit the kid no matter what you're driving.
Anyway, currently I ride a motorbike most days and drive a Caterham on wknds for fun, and am seriously looking at getting a TVR to replace the Cat. Sagaris is a bit pricey at the moment, but Tuscans are very reasonable secondhand. Worried about reliability tho which is my main concern as I'd probably have to sell the bike if I was going to get the Sagaris, and hence would B my only vehicle.
As far as reliability goes... if I were buying a used Tuscan, I'd either make sure I got it cheap enough that I could afford to have the TVR Power rebuild done to the engine or else I'd buy one that has already had it done. I would probably try to budget enough for their 4.3 liter upgrade - the 4.5 sounds pretty tasty too but apparently isn't available for a few months yet.
Other than the well-known engine issues (which didn't affect everyone) they're pretty robust.
@Gwynne66 in normal situations you don't need ABS indeed, the thing is, when it gets wet or it starts to snow and you have to make a sudden lane change, ABS is the system that saves you. It will be okay for one or maybe two times, but on the limit or when you're not paying attention for a second, you might just slide forwards with no feedback from the steering wheel anymore. For average drivers, ABS is a safety feature and that's why its on most cars. TVRs are for more experienced drivers.
ABS doesn't "save you" in a "sudden lane change". First of all, anyone who drives a Tuscan in the snow is a head case.
ABS is only necessary when the brake discs aren't big enough to do the job properly and hydraulics are used to boost braking force. This reduces the control the driver has over the brakes.
I've driven a Tuscan in the rain and I can tell you from personal experience that ABS isn't needed.
ABS isn't a safety feature, it is a band-aid fix for bad engineering.
@Gwynne66 In other words, you think every single car should be equipped with sport brakes? You know that upgrading these brakes is a costly addition. Besides, you can't just say ABS is a 'band-aid' if you have only driven one Tuscan. That's just ONE case. I've been in one as well and you can brake perfectly with it, but it's always safer at times when the driver makes mistakes. A driver isn't flawless and not every driver is experienced enough to drive without ABS, ESP or TCS.
No, that's not what I said. Electronic nannies don't help inexperienced drivers, they actually hurt them by lulling the inexperienced into a false sense of security. I've lost count of the idiots I see driving in the snow at normal speed and saying "Oh well, I have ABS and AWD, so I'll be fine". That's nonsense. Electronics don't suspend the laws of physics.
Fact: If a car's brake discs are big enough, it doesn't need ABS. If it needs ABS, the brake discs aren't big enough.

very true. but in a way it sort of gives them more character in the sence that it fits in with the tradition of most British sports cars tend to be un reliable. but that Tuscan S couldnt be much better, stunning car
Wonderful and powerful cars. I went to the garage in center London weeks ago, talk to a mate there, he's been in the business for quite a long time, he accepted to show me around. So nice of him. A shame I couldn't try one. Next time maybe. TVR should stay british, they got the English style and the originality too. I love them; Tuscan MKI & MKII, T 350 C & T, Tamora, CERBERA, and the great GRIFFITH they all so amazing... Well I'd better stop there I got to much to say, sorry.
Is that it!? come on mate bit more next time! Awesome car though. On the vid it sounds similar to my mates 996 C4S with the peformance pack fitted! Wierd!

schnookie6 3 years ago
on the contrary a TVR engine needs to at least have an oil temperature of 50 degrees before taking the revs above 3000 rpm!
mossychops1 3 years ago
What I said was - he didn't put his foot down. That wasn't even close to 4Krpm imo.
And that MODERN engines OFTEN read in the manual that revs on startup are not such a no-no like they used to be.
However, if you want to fight for the internets, I think you'll find the recommended rpm/temp reads like this for a tuscan engine...
engine temp < 40degC - keep under 2.5Krpm
temp < 50degC - keep under 4Krpm
temp < 65degC - keep under 6.5Krpm

Safety regulations... I can't understand why anyone would need an airbag in such a car. You will die even with an airbag, so what's the point?

yea and people don't buy a car like that for its safety...

@Gwynne66 Actually ABS is for "bad" drivers :P
Seriously tho, I think ABS is handy in town if one is not paying attention and a kid steps out into the road and you just mash the brakes.

@JzAeroo
Who said anything about "'sport brakes"?
Also, I've driven many TVRs, not just a Tuscan. I've driven a 5.0 liter Griffith, a Cerbera and a Tamora.
But I can definitely say ABS is a band-aid... because that's exactly what it is. The first models of Lotus Elise also didn't have ABS.
Also, ABS doesn't help drivers who "make mistakes". It help manufacturers who don't make their brake disks big enough to stop the car properly.
ESP and TC also aren't at issue re: experience.
Gwynne66 9 months ago
@Gwynne66 So actually you're repeating my point. "These are systems for less experienced drivers". End of story.
Not every car suits 35cm brake disks, its not even necessary to fit every car with big brake disks.
