I was bunking off school the day challenger went up. Jarre in Houston was the first time that I had heard of him. Saw him London. Not keen on his newer stuff since then.
I was in the army this day...remember this picture at the first page of IZVESTIA newspaper...that was the shock, nobody could believe ..and although USA supported the war in the Afghanistan this time.. the Soviet people were with You americans.../our regards, from USSR
I was in 5th grade. The whole school was gathered in the cafeteria/auditorium. We all watched on a single TV. I remember it like it was yesterday. This was in Houston so we all felt connected to NASA. We were...we are still proud of all them. Later that year in April, Jean Michel Jarre put on the greatest tribute. Rendezvous Houston.
@AtomicMutant Wow..gah...I remember being in elementary school when they pulled all our grade's classes into one classroom to watch the news on TV about what had happened. I don't think that ever happened in my school career any other time.
Belive it or not Free energy is real,But the coverup is very strong,Go to LT-MAGNET-MOTORdotCOM and get the blueprints for a genuine magnet motor ,Let the revolution begin!
This is the perfect piece of music to reflect on a tragedy such as that which befell the Challenger and her crew. Powerful, ambient, chilled, scary, melancholic and peaceful in equal measure.
@Apophisguard ... "Ron's Peace"? Sure it should be renamed to it. YEAH!!! Very nice remark this one from you. It seems to be a philosphical one. And full of sense -- no irony.
Sitting in the 19th hole in some golf club in the caribien on my lunch break watching the start as the crowed noisy bar fell into silence - i just remember everybody left one after the other without a word - everybody knew that there are no survivors - tears hiden in eyecorners - until the keeper switched the TV off.
this piece has the feel of being orbit, watching the earth go by, which i suppose is what he inteneded, with Ron Mc.Nair playing in orbit, sadly it was never to be. I think he later added the heart beat to the album as a lasting tribute, so as long as people play the track, Ron Mc.Nair will live on.
Challenger crew, May your souls rest in piece. amen
The Challenger disaster was even worse because of the fact, that unlike many other shuttle launches, the launch of STS51L was broadcasted in schools and was widely covered by media because of C. McAuliffe as the first teacher in space. Respect to the Challenger flight crew from Czech rep.
indeed it was to be the first ever recording from outer space, composed jointly by Ron and JMJ and to be played by Ron from space. it makes my eyes water to hear it as it means so much and it now stands as a homage to the crews bravery
well can't really give you technical answers..the report was heard on a radio network 10 years after the disaster so.. this also can be journalist chats !
Unfortunately there isn't a "protection capsule". The cabin remained intact after the vehicle broke up (from what I understand it was more a break up than an explosion). I believe the report was never able to conclude if any of the crew remained conscious more than a few seconds after the breakup.
Even if there was some form of escape capsule, it is dubious if it would have saved the crew in this event, due to the sudden and unexpected nature of the inflight break up.
@ShermanM36 they didn't die drowned, they died because of the impact on the ocean, but effectively it is sad they survived the explosion and not the crash.
I remember when the Challenger tragedy happened. I had just got home from work and saw it on the news. I just stared at the TV in disbelief, I mean these guys were from NASA - they can do anything right? Then to find out that it was caused by something as stupid as O-rings and temperature and "the powers that be" not wanting to lose money!! It's a sad reflection on the times and how nothing has changed even now. Money rules everything and it sucks. Stop the planet I want to get off...oh, I can't
Me to buddy, I was 12 years old and see it on TV at live. I felt very very said for that and still remember how this event touched people. Unforgetable...
My life is being turned upside-down at the moment by various personal and extraneous problems... this music kinda sums it up...melancholic, messed up, dazed, confused, frustrated...............
Just wanted to say, hold out, there's no problem too big. Believe me, I know. Have had so much crap in my 31 year old life, I should be dead by every normal standard. It can take years and years to get there, but it's never impossible.
Please be assured that you're not alone, there are many people out there in the same boat as you and me my friend. That doesn't mean I am trivialising our personal situations in any way, I just wanted to put it into a little more context. I do see light at the end of the tunnel, so I'm concentrating soully on that :) I wish you well 0n0s0...
Fox, linda montagem... eu tenho uma no meu perfil, comigo mesmo tocando... dá uma olhadinha lá.. parabéns... essa é a única música de Jarre que me entristece.
This piece of music reminds me of them moments just after you've been emotionally hurt by someone and the pain has just gone and you realise all you can do is get up, brush yourself down and move on.
Every time I hear this song, the heart beating in the background makes me think of riencarnation, some other form of life, or near-death. I don't know why, lol don't ask, but that's what I think of. Brilliant song otherwise.
Foi provado que nem todos os tripulantes morreram pela explosão, mas sim pelo impacto da cabine da nave na agua, e pela demora do resgate, uma vez que, alguns tiveram morte por afogamento!
This piece was such a haunting and ironic tribute! As it never got played as was intended!
I felt soo much grief when i heard, but is amazingly beautiful too!
An amazing astronaut, and musician, God bless!

Astronaut Ron McNair was supposed to play the saxophone from space during the track "Last Rendez-Vous" live from the space shuttle ''Challenger''.
Because of the tragedy at 1-28-1986 (my 18th birthday) this was not in the stars.
