This runway is Just under 8,000 feet in length and heavys like this and the 747 are rated for it, My hometown airport, Leeds Bradford has a runway length of just over 7,000 and their biggest aircraft is an a310?
@MGCMuseGuitarCovers Unless that A340 or 747 is fully-loaded, then St, maarten would be a problem. At max T/O weight the A340 needs about 10,500 ft. for takeoff in standard conditions. All heavies seen at St. Maarten are leaving with either less fuel or less payload due to the somewhat-shorter-than-"normal" runway. Not a big deal as airlines always calculate necessary takeoff distances in the presiding conditions very carefully long before pushing those throttles forward.
@RCT3rox No, the beach is facing away from the mountains and has miles of sea, if not millions of miles. The mountains are the other way..... so yep, smoking.
Something is real when those plane take off have to make a almost stall footage or crash with the mountains i have comproved that in flight simulator x , when i take off i press up and i'm shure that i don't go to crash with the mountains when the extreme of the wings is doing a wind power that looks like smoke a white smoke and when i crossed the mountains get to a normal climb angle.!
although next time you go traveling by plane to somewhere else to relax and make spotting vids, you should try making take-off and landing vids in the aircraft.
Air France s#¤ks b#¤lls, but the A-340 is a very good plane. I flew one from Bangkok to Europe a few months ago, and it's a big and comfortable plane. : )
Do the air france visits to TNCM fly straight back to france or do they stop nearby for fuel? It seems they powered up full thrust before fully aligned to gain some early speed..
yes they are basically the same apart from, like you said, the engine numbers, they both have the same capacity of passengers when in a 2 class arrangment but there is other minor differences aswell like the wing size and shape and i think there is different cargo layout but im not too sure.
the shortest commercial runway is just about 50 miles away in Saba, also at the end theres a 500 foot drop, only DHC-6 size aircraft land there its really only for island hoppers
pilots can throttle up while lining up with the runway for immediate takeoff if he's given the takeoff clearence. But pilots can't do that if the tower instructs "position and hold".
great vid Jon, the first thing i noticed was he was still not lined up on the runway when he powered up for take off, take note he had to correct the front wheel twice to hit the center line. amazing.
If you want a nice one, get a Sony HD HandyCam (HDD). They are expensive, but well worth the money if you are going to use it. Not to mention Carl Zeiss lenses for outdoors :) Everything is stored on a hard drive so you never need to use removable media.
Cool stuff Jon5700, I got to take a demo flight on the new Dassault Falcon 7x, it was truly a sweet bird. We were at 43,000 in 14 minutes, and cabin pressure is 3500 ft, very comfortable. Can you fly one of these on your sims? That would be cool.
Well I've flown on both but actually it seemed like the A340 was longer...idk that's prob just me...
