The participants may have their penalties paid by the show but that does not make it fake. Anyone on any show, except a news cast, is compensated. If you utter one single word they must pay you. If she just used her brain and paid the ticket she wouldn't have gone to court and loose paying $5000, that is a lot of money for everyone. IDK how the US system works but it's kinda sick that if you sue someone for an amount and win, you get the money.
Then again you can't slander someones reputation by telling untrue stuff about them. Guess law worked out this time, if i got paid every time someone told untrue things about me i would be rich like a troll.

What would be the point of suing if you can't collect damages from the offending party? Paying a judgment is like paying a fine, except the money is supposed to go to the person harmed/injured/slandered, etc...

Okay you might be right about judge judy. They are just paid a stipen of $100 on peoples court however "the losing party does not actually need to pay the judgment, as such. Instead (as is stated in the disclaimer at the end of each show), both parties are paid from a fund (set up by Ralph Edwards-Stu Billett Productions). "

I would just like to state that these cases are real (as far as a case that has been filed for review by a court). The participants may have their penalties paid by the show but that does not make it fake. Anyone on any show, except a news cast, is compensated. If you utter one single word they must pay you. So do not think that because the money does not come out of the participant pocket make the show a fraud of any sort. Besides do you think Judge Judy would go for that? NO she wouldn't

@jhonen32629 No they don't. Neither pays anything. It's not real court where a defendent pays a plaintiff. All damages are paid by the show as well as travel expenses. Otherwise people would go across the country to settle their disputes.

The show also pays the judgments, so nobody is out anything. In an interview, she mentioned that, and said that it's all in fun, hopefully people get entertained and learn something
