The physiology explanation is slightly erroneous. The main function of airsacs is to cycle air through the body in such a way that 1) it passes through the gas exchange tissue of the lungs in one direction and 2) fresh air constantly passes through the lungs on both inhalation and exhalation. Airsacs have little to do with vocalization. As was mentioned, the syrinx is the functional "voicebox" of birds. It is located in the chest where the trachea divides into the mainstem bronchi.
@NaomiIsSoAwesome98 Assuming you are saying those 2 contradict each other, you are wrong. I think you meant that you like it when the two highest rated comments are against each other. Or one of them goes against the other one.
My umbrella cockatoo is mimicking my cockatiel and it drives me up the wall. I don't know how to 'untrain' the cockatoo....but I've moved the cockatiel into another room and hopefully the cockatoo will become more quiet. *sigh* Birds....should be left in the wild where they belong.
@thecommercialedge there are plenty of amazing owners and trainers out there with very happy birds. no matter what the animal, you need to understand and accept, if not embrace, the creature's perks as well as its faults. just because you have had a bad experience doesn't mean that all birds suffer from being in captivity. those who abuse or neglect animals should never own them, whatever the kind, "wild" or "domesticated", period.
@medsoluk after volunteering at a bird rescue operation, I abhor any notion of people supporting bird breeding. I hope you know how much time and effort a bird needs to maintain a healthy LIFE. Birds can outlive humans... and they aren't like dogs/cats. They need constant care and *attention*. I wish I had never taken on the birds I have now. It's depressing to see so many birds given up because their owners don't realise that biting/screaming/plucking is akin to bird captivity . Best to you.
Look at all that bird dust floating in that room! I don't even want to know how irritated those bird's sinuses are from breathing that dusty air. That’s not good for people to breathe either. Open up the windows!
I think I only understood what was said in this video because I already know how birds talk. However, I feel that a person who just "walked into" this video without any background knowledge would walk out still not understanding HOW birds talk because what was said was unorganized
@eriklares90 I have a budgie too, if your has 4 months now get him on your hand put it where your mouth is and repeat one word for example: "I love you" "I love you" "I love you" "I love you". and repeat repeat. Then he will say it hope it works with that way :). Nvm im gonna wait to get to 4 months my.. it has 1 month and 12 days aaaa i have to wait... I wan't a Gold and Blue Macaw does anyone know where they can be buyen or getten?
You can't "make" any bird talk. I have 2 cockatiels. My older one, Calvin, talks all the time. Sunny doesn't even like making noises. Try teaching your bird to say a simple word like "Hello". If you want them to say "Hello" at convenient times, repeat it in a higher pitch voice when you first enter their room. If you stick to that every time you walk in, and they like the word, they will learn to say it when you walk into the room. You should reward your bird for saying it.
cockatiels have the ability to talk but will. my female wont even try to mimic words. you can get a fairly accurate song from them but they are not very talented vocally. you will get slurred speech at best. gotta love them the same tho :)
you have to give word a more exaggerated place in the sounds that they hear. that is why they latch onto curses more than what you might want to teach them. look straight at the bird and get his attention and say the words happily but STRONGLY (remember birds are loud to each other too) and hey will lear that these words (sounds) are important to getting your attention and will start to use them. You will feel like an idiot but trust me it works.
There are CDs you can buy to teach your bird all sorts of phrases. You just put a CD player next to the cage, set it to loop a single track, select the track you want, and let it rip, preferably while you are out for a while since it can be annoying after a while.
So true they don't need to talk if you love them. My Mickey Budgie Must be a very Happy budgie as he can talk for like and hour lol Talk words lol not Noises
