  • @ originalboland You're so right! This tune is incredible. It boasts great lead vocals, harmonies, & the tune's modulations are fantastic. The tune moves (I know, because I've played this out live many times) & from start to finish, it is one of the best Squeeze tunes. Thanks so much for uploading.

  • @Kazyman I already had every tune on this record but had to buy it just for this marvelous tune. Saw them in lst NY concert on the pier. When they finished and we kept applauding they said they'd play another encore but they didn't know any more tunes. So we kept shouting out song titles and they played almost the whole show over again. I love SQUEEZE.

  • @chgoshark Wow! That is so typical of them! I saw them (new drummer) at UCSD about 15 years ago? at an auditorium at UC. My friend & I were leaning on the stage & only about a few hundred people there. At the end of the show they chatted away & answered questions, & I modeled my own attitude towards audiences the same...people delighting in "how approachable you are." I was like that anyway but even moreso after I saw that incredible Squeeze concert. They are REAL showmen.

  • @Kazyman Bill Graham would call them The Incomparable. Thanks for telling me about them and keep that atitude.

  • Stellar songwriting of course but this track also shows off their unsurpassed ensemble playing. A crack team

  • AH THE 80'S..I CRY BECAUSE I MISS THEM DAYS..

  • Who's that at the bar on the album cover? ET getting drunk? lol. Squeeze definitely did NOT get enough recognition for their work.

  • Always remember this track from Singles 45 and under, played it all the time, thanks for putting this up,it brings back damm good memories

  • I'm looking at the 45's and under vinyl artwork right now :) Sounds way better on vinyl, just to let you all know ;)

  • great choice thankyou.

  • produced by alan tarney: of the tarney spencer band fame.

  • I love this track, I was born in february of 85, it's before my time. Parents played it now and then, It get's no radio play. I am probably the one person in my demographic aware of squeeze and how awesome they were. This would upset me if I didn't assume the mindset that i'm one of the lucky bunch to know the dated musical treasure that is squeeze.

  • i actually love this squeeze track, i used to have all their albums, but have lost them so i have ended up with a greatest hits album, i have it on all the time. brilliant songwriters.

  • I Love it ! I have a theory that this tune is about Bob & Joan! No, seriously listen to it, I mean really listen to it! Well that's my story and I'm sticking to it! ha... ;o

  • I'm going electric!!!!!!!

  • excellent post, poster; loud, proud, public, and quality-plus.....well done mate!! ///Canada...

  • I remember this songs when I was 16. I remember being a counsellor in a city summer camp and when we drove by school bus up to an away camp for a couple of nights, I would listen to this song. It's one of the best driving songs. And I love the way it ends. Perfect song to hear in a medium sized club.

  • reminds of my early twenties living in Chicago. There was only one progressive or alternative rock station at that time and this was a big hit on it. Anyone remember the station's name? It reminded me a British girlfriend I had here in the Windy City at that time, Susan of Brighton, UK. Will always remind me of her. Sigh

  • @jrfuent WXRT

  • @BernardProfitendieu

yep, that's the one. Johnny Mars on Sunday evenings, iirc? the only exposure to punk rock I had, growing up in Villa Park.

  • God, how long have I been searching for this song. Thank you very much!

  • so happy you put this here

a fav of mine by them forever

  • Gilson is possibly the 2nd best "fill drummer (behind Ringo) who ever sat behind a drum kit.

  • @jimsmithctc I appreciate that, but cmon, Nick Mason? that guy could fill those beats! :P Not saying he's the best, but he sure is up there.

  • All I can say is WOW!!! I"D totally forgotten about these guys. What a great song. I dare you to sit still listening to this....holy ****.

  • Heard them live in their final goodbye concert. Was really young but they were amaaazing. This song....

  • bein a kid in the 80's i only heard the song 'tempted' from this artist. Once i discovered digital cable i heard "black coffee in bed" and figured this band was worth looking into. Glad i did! this song is awesome & never wouldve been discovered if not for new technology. cheers :)

  • THIS STUFF REFUSES TO DIE....THANK GOD!

  • all good!

  • THE BUSINESS FOREVER!!!

  • Maybe not my favorite Squeeze song, but "Annie Get Your Gun" is a song that never fails to make me feel good and lift my spirits, more than perhaps any other song. The question is, what is this song about? After much, much reflection, I've concluded that it's about Annie who gets snares her man, a singer (and maybe a guitarist or drummer) by getting pregnant and getting him to marry her. Study the lyrics! Any other interpretations?

  • @edfreeze Someone I knew once told me this song was about Judy Garland and the events surrounding her appearing on Broadway in "Annie Get Your Gun."

  • Fantastic. The brilliant Squeeze!

  • Thank you. Saw them in concert in 1985. Still one of the best shows I ever saw!

  • this tune doesn't belong to my generation but is so good! i Like oldies =)

  • My dad used to play this and now since i heard it again i love it!

  • I always used to skip this song on the LPs. Don't know why, it just didn't capture me at first. Saw them live in SF in '08 and this song live went over wonderfully. The crowd was singing every lyric along with them and i felt downright ASHAMED that I had skipped over this song for so many years. Needless to say, I've been listening to it non stop since. I'll be ready for the next concert. :)

  • some girl does a good cover of this song

I keep hearing it on Sirius 63

it reminded me of what a great tune this is!

  • I didn't know Squeeze did Annie Get Your Gun.

  • @The3lols4u ................I think this was their very last single before there break-up

  • Great quality post. This song makes me want to dance around the room like a drunken penguin with herring breath. Oop ack !

  • @vveq only those of us in our 20's during this time would get the reference...Opus loves you!!!

  • @vveq Has the same affect on me.Glorious tune from those squeeze boys.

  • @vveq Has the same effect on me and did indeed dance like a duck to this when i had one too many shandies back in the days.

  • Love that album...still waiting for someone to upload Vicky Verky.

  • Squeeze is one of the best bands ever !!

  • Not a half bad little ditty. Psych - its very good!

  • this song is awesome.

what exactly is the gun part all about, though?

    pleasy explainoli

  • I don't know what the gun part is all about, but "Annie Get Your Gun" is the title of a fairly popular American musical about Annie Oakley.

  • This song is supposed to be about Bob Dylan turning electric, isn't it?

  • the song is about Annie Oakley of Ohio, USA... she was one the best sharpshooter in the country in the late 1800s.

  • saw them in 77..I knew they was goona be big!!!

  • squeeze me baby!

  • Squeeze songs sound as fresh and relevant now as they did when first released. A class act and national treasure.

  • for all of us 40 plus, great memories..now wheres my vinyl collection

  • Caught them in Detroit Sounded amazing they can still play!

  • They've been writing great songs for 30+ years and I've loved every minute of it. SQUEEZE are still together (summer 2008) still sounding really good, still collecting new fans - even teenage ones! They've just successfully completed some live gigs and music festivals in the UK and are currently touring the USA/Canada also to very appreciative audiences.

    **** Long live SQUEEZE !! ****

  • Saw them live last night in Toronto...just absolutely 'effing brilliant!

  • I had and still have this on cassette tape. One of my favorites.

  • love it! remember it like it was yesterday.

  • Ged

  • THANK YOU

  • Rediscovered my old Squeeze Singles LP and been playing it over and over. Teenage son thinks it's brill !!

  • Glad to hear you are putting them on the right path. What is their favorite track?

  • My dad did the same. I saw Glenn Tillbrook at an acoustic festival a few years ago and thought he was immense - second only to Hayseed Dixie.

Then caught them in Manchester last year. If anyone else saw that tour: did it seem to you that Tillbrook and Difford really weren't seeing eye to eye? I got the feeling they were just doing it for the fans/money and that they'd had some kind of disagreement.

PS Favourite song? Up the Junction maybe? Dunno - there are so many good ones!

  • I think they kind of soured on each other after they broke off from Squeez to go solo.

  • @robboperthwa What does "brill" mean? Is that some dumb abbreviation of the word brilliant? Just like the asinine non-word "convo" for conversation. Speak English please.

  • @atty1chgo Bit of a knob aren't you?

  • @adamburgess Whatever I had posted was removed. But if it was about Squeeze not being the greatest band of all time, it is true. Only a knob would think that they were.

  • @atty1chgo help yourself to a couple extra prunes tonight at your nursing home, gramps... constipation's a bitch!

  • @robboperthwa thats good.there arent enough good bands out now adays.

  • Rediscovered my old Squeeze Singles LP and been playing it over and over. Teenage son thinks it's brill !!

  • Thanks - another classic!!

  • every one of their songs are hits !!!!!!

  • This is for all the Squeeze fans out there x

  • thanx

  • @originalboland I got tickets for squeeze from my parents! good times. They were my first ever gig when i was really really young, and i've come to appreciate them much more since... Can't wait! Seen Jools Holland a couple of times too, he's amazing...

  • i hated that so much that i wanted to kill myself after i saw it
