well done to Faddy24......I went from the likes of Undertones to this Germanic Electro music at the age of 16 (1981) and never looked back...remember bands such as Gary Numan, Heaven 17 and Simple Minds for their pioneering sounds and not for their commercial need to make a living and how crass we now view them...these guys and their likes were cutting edge and bands now are only just waking up to how much they owe to them!!!
This track was so ahead of it's time, along with the rest of "Sons And Fasso" - definitely one of the class rock acts of the late 70's/ very early 80's.
That's a bit of a sweeping statement, 'Reni'! Of course they have contributed something of note since 'NGD'. Sure, more mainstream and conventional in comparison to their early material but that does not make it crap by default. Anyway, i see you like 'Pavarotti'. He has huge populist appeal = mainstream!
Still stand by my statement lets compare sweat and bullet ,american,i travel, love song ,somewhere in the summertime, promised you a miracle, life in a day all great songs to waterfront ,speed your love to me,alive and kicking, kick it in,real life, she's a river, underneath the ice. have all there albums and they have still have not recorded a great album since new gold dream
Played this to some clubbers in their late teens and 20's - they fuckin' loved it!! When i told them it was recorded 29 years ago their jaws hit the floor - thought i was winding 'em up! Goes to show just how far ahead of their time early period Simple Minds were!
@faddy24 funny thing is nothing has really changed as far as the structure of modern music. the formula is pretty much the same since the late 70s/ 80s.
all bands now are influenced by the same bands who've paved the way whether they realize or not. i mention that to teens all the time had the same experience when i played the smiths for a group of teens.
I saw the video for this song and the mix is a little different from the album. It's awesome you can really hear derek forbes basswork. Incredible!!!!!!
porque no podemos tener bajistas como este?

"Sparkle in the Rain" and "Once Upon a Time" are fantastic albums even if not as unique as the ones before.
It's once you get to "Streetfigthing Years" that it all starts to get a bit generic......
Although that "Neopolis" seemed like a good crack at going back to the roots...

There early stuff was very good pity they have done nothing of any note since new gold dream

Great band at the top of their game with a good 'Europen Guy' singer everything in proportion.
Where did it all go wrong Jim?
