Defenetly is the song one of great mystery results of long touring on endless tracks in several countries. Awe-inspiring is at least the word on unspoken stings.
I can't even begin to explain how the Fish era of Marillion influenced my life. To this day, I can play those albums one by one on my old record player and remember back to my formative years. It is a shame that most music today is nothing more than jangle mass produced crap.
I have long known that Script for a Jester's Tear is my favourite song - lyrically and musically - I really feel the emotion of it and have shed more than one of my own jester's tears while hearing it. The ultimate marriage of words and music. Of course, without Fish they are still great musicians, though with zero charisma, and are a pretty average AOR band and nothing more - they cut their own throats when they wanted rid of him.
was very lucky to meet the big guy in liverpool when they done the memorial gig for Mylo................very drunk night ..............almost certain he doesnt remember me but I will never for get him. Still see him every year when hes touring............so many memories of the best years of my life
I just love the pureness and the rhythm of the drums that kicks in by the end of the song. Just love it! Marillion, always at the first place of my Top bands list :)
This song is amazing. It just sends awesomeness waves all over the place. Impossible to be indifferent to it. Makes me smile, move, sing, and be happy to be alive.
What a truly haunting song! Absolutely fantastic! The dynamics in this song are phenomenal! Simply wonderful lyrics. Such a cautionary tale - although, who is likely to take heed of the story being portrayed... (:o) I have loved this song for so many years and it NEVER loses a thing. Marillion = Awesome...!! \m/ (:o)

And the brilliant "Somewhere in a tenement..." coda verse. The lyric arc of the song could've been completed with the funeral and then fade out on the chorus, but then they tag on this extra verse which kinda pulls the camera out and gives a bigger picture of what going on, that the drive for fame is circular and goes on. one of my favorite songs.
How good was a band to release unique B side songs. Never a commercial sell out band and so much talent. I saw these guys many times in the UK and they will always be my favorite band. This song just sums it all up. Couldn't pick a favorite without changing my mind soon after.
As poinent today, as it was then. Great band , great music. I was a lucky man to have seen then on too many occasions to recall in 500 letters. Fish is STILL the man
One of the few bands whose B sides were as good as the A's !! Marillion one of greatest bands to influence my life. I was lucky to be a teenager when they were hitting the charts with their own style and stuff !! How sad music today has lost it's way.
@Ripper36068 I am not an 80's kid, I am a 90's lad, but when I was in secondary school, 02 - 07, this band helped me pull through. I absolutely hated school, was bullied and all sorts, but I am getting somewhere with my life know, I am at Uni and everything.
"Tux" is short for "Tuxedo" (= elgant man-clothes/ Smoking), in this case a symbol for his social success.
4:22 he sings: "...the uniform that symbolizes the comfort her lifes..."
Anyway: 80's marillion songs rule, lyrics (most of them written by fish) are outstanding: check the song "Grendel" , it's about the troll who was fight by Beowulf... :)

Yer, one of my fav albums from the Fish days - an album full of B-Sides - now thats sheer brillance. It proves that everyone of their songs is nothing less than great!
