Thank you so much, I love you! I started learning Latex because my supervisor wanted me to use it for a report. I've never done any computer programming or anything in my life but after checking out your site and reading the Not So Short Guide to Latex, the foreign commands on WinEdt have become understandable! Now I just need to learn some AMS haha.
@thefiddler46 professional looking typesetting. MS Word and other word processing programs tend to be finicky in their output (can't always get things to be perfect) and quite poor for including math. LaTeX is a free way to make high quality documents. Doesn't mean it is for everybody, though.
Great Tutorial. You saved me a lot of time. I am currently working on my thesis in Topological Graph Theory and unfortunately, Lyx has not been great for me especially when trying to enumerate or itemize. Keep up the good work...
Great tutorial! Thanks! Just two things: (i) Lyx is on version 1.6.5 now and seem to be much more polished and (ii) TeXnicCenter seems to be a great free and open source alternative to WinEdit.
Glad the video helped you get up and running! I know LaTeX can sometimes be intimidating and I want to encourage people to avoid immediately falling into the trap of using Scientific Word. While that program is easy to use, it puts a lot of extra garbage into the code and ruins some of the simplicity (as well as ability) of LaTeX hard coding you get with WinEdt, TexMaker, etc.
