Gordon Cambell and the liberal party are guilty of much worst crimes than the HST. First of all I would like to say that they should not be called the Liberal party, it is a misrepresentation of ideology. They are conservative, Gordon and the Liberals enact laws which are right winged conservative. The crimes they committed go from cutting health care since they have been in power, to closing Single room occupancy hotels leaving people on the streets in vancouver to make way for the Olympics
Did you know Campbell voted himself a 54% pay raise in 2007? So his salary for that year was $186,000. And now he wants more so he makes this HST. So everytime I buy something, I have to pay him 12% of what a bought.
We assume that Nicks100 is one of the blinded Liberal supporters on the HST but in his blind allegiance to Gordon Campbell, he is conveniently ignoring a key fact:
1. We presume he isn't aware that government's definition of "revenue neutral", is that it doesn't getting any additional revenue in the process. If it increases our costs through the HST by, say, $500 in increased taxes and puts it in the bank accounts of business, that is "revenue neutral" in their eyes. It isn't in ours!
2. Campbell states the HST will create 220,000 new jobs. That has now been revised to a mere 113,000 jobs created but its now over a 20 year period. Notice the decline?
But, if the HST = job creation, explain why the Maritimes has had the HST since April 1997 but is still at the top of the list each time Stats Canada releases its jobless figures. While some economists agree that the HST could create jobs, none has offered an acceptable explanation why the Maritimes still tops the list.
3. The issue of job creation is just tired, economic theory that remains unproven. Businesses have been in the mode of job reduction for years. That is why Telus, Dell, Intuit (Quick Tax), and dozens of other Canadian companies have closed their Customer Service centers and relocated to Manila, Mumbai and other 3rd World centers to save staffing cost.
And you think these companies will create more jobs for Canadians rather than just pocket the additional savings? That’s a joke!
4. HST = lower prices? Another unproven, economic theory at best. Furthermore, it is almost impossible to prove. Prices fluctuate from month to month. We have sales for Labour Day, Thanksgiving Day; Boxing Day, ad nauseam. Now any sale will be touted as savings being passed on to the consumer as a result of the HST…..
It's strange that the proponents of the HST have never given pointed to the Maritimes to give examples of price drops solely attributed to the HST being implemented.
5. As far as businesses being burdened by paying the PST and then having to claim a credit at a later point in time, clearly NICS 100 has never heard of businesses having a Provincial Tax number which EXEMPTS them from PAYING the PST UNTIL THE PRODUCT IS SOLD TO THE CONSUMER…..
In fact you might want to contemplate that if the HST is so wonderful, why Carol Taylor as Finance Minister, was asked about bringing in the HST, her comment was “not on my watch.”
6. If it makes you feel better into thinking the HST will result in lower prices and create jobs, enjoy your fantasy. Big Business like the banks (Royal Bank - last quarter profit of One Billion Dollars) will profit the most.
We hope you find solice in the fact that each time RBC and other large corporations purchase a skid of toilet tissue, YOU will be picking up the HST component equivalent to the now extinct Provincial Sales Tax. So much for the “end user” paying - no pun intended.
I've been trying to formulate an educated opinion, and there is plenty of rhetoric to sift through, but from what I've understood so far, this tax will actually be revenue neutral (rev. negative in ON). The HST will eliminated the long antiquated and rejected structure of the soon-to-be former PST, where the tax was charged at every stage of production (cascading tax). This will result in lower production costs, and therefore a decrease in the price of goods to consumers.
So the HST is revenue neutral, so what? All "revenue neutral" means is that the government doesn't make any extra tax dollars in the process. If our costs increase by X amount, and that amount is passed on to big business, then its revenue neutral. If you believe the Stats Canada report, the HST will cost a family of four an additional $821/year. They should feel good about that? The big winner is big business and the bigger the business, the bigger the windfall.
@nicks100 Not DAMN LIKELY. Business won't reduce the prices; they'll just pocket the difference as profit. You believe this tax is revenue-neutral, I have a bridge for sale. In the words of an ex-Miami judge, I wouldn't believe Gordo if his tongue came notarized.
well no one will ever vote form him again do thing i'm lying think again he should have resigned when he got that Impaired driving charge. Wouldn't';t you agree with me BClibfan he is the worst premier all he cares about is businesses thats it no health care schooling etc.
Bc lib fan the Bc liberals are finished in 2013 if you don't believe me look it up on popularity.Gordon campbell lied about this tax it was never mentioned in the 2009 election he is history, or with the BC Raill scandal sooner than u think.
@2008FORDF450V8 We'll see about that. 2005 was supposed to be year of the New Democrat - it wasn't. 2009 was supposed to be year of the moderate - and it was another BCLib year.
@BCLibFan You are a loser just like the scum of a Premier you worship. Gordo has lied through his teeth on more than 1 count to get elected (as have most of the BC Liars). The HST is SOLELY to garner revenue to make up for the $165-million+ cost overruns of Gordo's stupid little party called the Owelympics. Your lies (and Gordo's) won't change that.
we need a new king to the throne of Bristish Columbia all hail king cummins
