Well, yeah... In North America, that is. Fights are not that usual in European leagues though. Here in Finland you get thrown out of the game every time you fight.

@ragnar444 fights are not officially allowed in NHL but there is "a code". Both teams must drop their gloves and sticks and then they are allowed to fight until one of them drops to the ground, assuming of course none of them are badly injured. The player that started the fight gets a 5 minute penalty. In europe and elsewhere, players who get into a fight (start one) are thrown out of the game immediately... but i think it's more cool with the fights :))
