waaaaay too many movements... Without closing and forward pressure--what in the world makes you think he's going to leave his arm hanging out in the wind for you???
@trondyne Now if there is something to criticize about this video, it is definitly not that there are too many movements, no idea what you're seeing. For multiple strikes his hands are already in position for each successive one cuttin down on movements by half already. And the arm is hanging because he's demonstrating what he's doing... sigh... Does anyone ever actually just watch these videos and appreciate them for what they are?
You're operating in theory land... Too many moves means just that.. If you think ANYONE can execute 2 or more moves for the opponent's one move then you are deluding yourself.. Yes his arm in hanging out there because it is a demo--an unrealistic fantasy demo that allows the 'defender' to execute multiple moves while the 'attacker' freezes in place.. This is exactly what is wrong with TMA as is your accepting it as a demo which should somehow be removed from reality.
@trondyne remember..most fighters generate power from the shoulders(which makes it impossible to use two arms at the same time) and they put the weight on the lead leg when punching.(which makes it very difficult to recover) also, our fighting strategy is to fight on the blind side, control the elbow(which controls his balance and speed)keep our weight distributed evenly, and to use two arms simultaneously.all of these principles allow the practitioner to get more done in that moment that most.
@trondyne also, if you have any other questions or concerns feel free to contact me privately anytime sir. you can find my info here or on facebook. all the best to you and yours.. sifu Rahsun.

So we are assuming that after slipping/stepping offline and hitting his arm is still going to be extended conveniently for you to trap it? I'd think that he'd have recoiled from the impact and be all over the place after that hit.
@danpats1 Sigh... everyone knows better and can find something wrong with anything. Just watching this short video you can see a great foundation in principles, technique, and speed. Not everything is done or even meant to be done in the same manner throughout all of Wing Chun. Start looking at the good in this and you'll see it, if you want to find a flaw and critique something insignificant, you'll see the same.
in the 1950's bruce lee spent four years being personally trained by some of the best fighters in hong kong.(william cheung, wong shun lung, and the late great grandmaster yip man)and they have all said he was an exceptional student/fighter. I don't know much about Mr. Pitt, but I'd put my money on bruce.
we step outside because our strategy is to fight from the blind side whenever possible.that way we only have deal with one arm at a time.hope i was helpful. Si-Fu Rahsun.
Great stuff Master Redmond! I learn something new everytime i see your technique. Excellent point about not just lopping, but putting a cheun sau up to block a possible cross. Thankyou.
You are suppose to get your body behind the cheunsao; however, if it's still too powerful, perhaps step with the impact so your body moves and your arm doesn't collapse.
The most recent private lesson, the instructor worked on crashing in. Same technique, just more agressive in application. Not knocking what you show! Jus tmy experience
Interesting. I trained this technique for a long time with many hours of private lessons with a TWC instructor. It was successful when my training partner was roughly my size. I had less success when my partner was bigger and stronger. What failed in my case was my cheunsao would be overpowered by his followup swing. Most times, i ended up in an exchange. Not good when he's stronger
kiddl3, allow me to argue that, although late. You didn't fail because your cheun sao was overpowered, but because you didn't strike realistically. If it was a real strike, your partner's hand probably wouldn't even reach you. Moreover, when you keep your centerline your blocks are supported by your whole body. Trust me, I am a medium height woman and my partner is 2 meters tall and really strong.
Thank you - having just started Wing Chun I found your video very useful and easy to follow.

that would be even better.....
you would then simply trap the elbow and complete the technique.

he makes it too robotic and should already be facing or pointed towards his opponent after he blocks the initial punch

you should step in instead of stepping to the side I think... It closes the gap and then the opponent can't kick
mhermansen 4 years ago
In Traditional Wing Chun we step to the blind side and not straight towards our opponent's center. Modified Wing Chun does that.
