simply put ....tig is like gas welding but instead of a flame to heat the metal, you use electricity. A tig torch has rod (electrode) in it made of tungsten which will not burn up, as the electricity flows from the end of the tungsten into the work piece it is surrounded by inert gasses to keep the metal from being contaminated by oxygen while superheated. Then you just dip the filler rod as needed and weld away.
Tig is where the weld pool is formed by a Arc from a tungsten to the work similar gas welding and the wire is fed by hand or Automatic as in this case.
eh what? you dont have to be all technical. I know mig uses instead of flux it uses a neutral gas to surround the filler metal. but whats the difference between mig and tig??
mig uses the filler wire to arc on the work, Tig uses a tungsten to arc on the work and filler is fed by hand or auto, Tig you dont need filler some welds,
I would like to set up the welder that does that, it looks like a very nice machine. What machine is it?

what is tig exactly? I've done mig, stick, and oxyacetylene welding

You can make perfectly small welds with TIG. You also have much more control with the variables. You can also weld very thin stuff with TIG.
