  • is this her name? Ambrosia? I've always liked this video so much. I just now found it again. Isn't youtube great. Where is she from? I'd like to find out more about her.

  • @cmdesign01

    try wikipedia!

  • like a dark norah jones, gwen stefani hybrid

  • Can anybody tell me when this video was made? What year?

And also, what are Ambrosia and the Shivaree doing right these days? Any news?

  • Ambrosia looks so great - so detached, classy, unfit for a second class brothel. What a marvellous contrast with the lyrics and the visual context. Her singing is a delight and also watching her is a real pleasure.

  • sex symbol!

  • the 45 pple aren't real mens ! :D great track !

  • really like this mv and the singer, agree with other comment... another level of sexy

  • je suis ok c est la plus sexy et de beaucoup !

  • hear !!

  • i'm the luckiest girl!!!^^Did you here what i say?!^^Tough!!Good!!

  • i llllove love love this music!!!!!

  • Love this club, not a trace of classy, but they know how to treat their clientele. And the girls are definitely with the show. And the singer, what not, has a lisp. Is this membership only? And where to apply?

  • Great song.

  • This woman is the next level of sexy...!! her voice, her body... god... Im envying her

  • Saxy as all fuck! The song's not half bad either!

  • This has as much to do with bossa nova as Elvis´ "Bossa Nova Baby"...

  • Christina, Ga Ga, Britney, Rihanna and all the rest – take a look at this girl and learn how to be sexy without taking your clothes off.

  • @bulgletta hahahaha, all the reason! fuck, she has born with sensuality! shes a lucky girl...!!

  • @bulgletta I agree completely. Those others have great voices but they drown them out with their videos in an unpleasant way.

Ambrosia's amazing, sultry, smokey and seductive in her look and voice. I think she was trying to see if she could make the guy tied to the chair explode.

  • @bulgletta Right, .....without taking your clothes off and without blowing up your tits and lips....

  • My pants are tight.

  • Damn!

  • nick cave...!!.?

  • Bossa nova, that is showing asses, bankrupt, I hope the Gilbertos's family not watching that crap

  • Oh my God..Ambrosia is so hot in this video! I'd love to lick her like a lolipop!

  • What is the name of the male model at this clip? Anybody knows?;)

  • Now, here's a trully SEXY girl !!!

  • On 2:45 she smiled!!! Thank's god, the guy remain alive!

  • This woman is unbelievably sexy....I mean WOW just W O W.

  • The bonded guy is forced to watch closely. They torture him, 'cause he may look but not touch. Defibitely his hard one could use some relief. ^^

  • This girl is sick I like it :D <3

  • @catre96 Somebody get a doctor!

  • Phenomenal ...

  • can't be sure, emily, but I thought about it for quite a frew years now... btw. I love Amrosias voice... See, this girl is twiested... and bossa is twisted.... If you listen to other songs from Shivaree, eg.: Goodnight Moon or John 2:14, those are tangos fused with rockand roll... this is samba mixed with a rock/jazz fussion... twissted, wicked bossa... oh and that voice... very good one for bossa nova. I only miss a portugese version on the CD...

  • està como un queso.ñam,ñam

  • Great Composition and beat. The dancers are great. Great choreography.

  • Chill out aleyoop2...everyone has a sexy Aunt somewhere...as Ambrosia sings, "What train did you step up on anyway?"

  • and bossa nova because...

  • yeah... song title is misleading :(

  • Not Bad

  • me encanta esta canción , Ambrosia es sensual pero sobre todo elegantísima, además de muy guapa y dotada con una voz potente pero dulce al mismo tiempo . que sigan los éxitos . saludos desde Lima , Perú .

  • I can never find this version of the song on mp3. This is so sexy

  • I love you more than anything else I can see - and this video isn't bad!

  • Goodness... Ambrosia is so sexy!

  • what a good mix.

  • I think i hate you.. ;-)..cool song

  • don´t have nothing here about bossa

  • This is not bossa nova!!

  • How 'bout the two guys working with her? ;)

  • I love Shivaree!! I dug this album out again the other day and it still sounds great!! It was goodnight moon i 1st heard on the radio which got me into them.

  • i like shivaree and all... but why is this song called bossa nova?

  • NOT BORING

  • She is SO HOT! SEXY voice!

  • RED BALL HAS RED BALLS

  • a great band but so underrated :((((

  • i used to mistake her voice with Gwen Stephani

  • This is the Bossa Nova Shivaree style.. Great song and video.

  • Haha. I love this video.

I want to learn that dance.

    :D

  • don't you really understand that bossa nova is the title of the song, not the genre of this music? love it or hate it, but don't write it down because of your lack of ability to associate and because you simply cannot accept other things but your own favourites.

  • bossa nova??

  • we are aware. but thank you aficionado for the lesson on musical genres...

p.s. the 'title' of the song isn't indicative of it's genre...just a thought

  • get the cobb ot of your ass dick wad

  • Ambrosia....yummy!

  • WOW""

  • This isn't Bossa nova... Bossanova es un ritmo brasilero, esta canción no se acerca a ese ritmo de música... ;)

  • This isn't Bossa nova... Bossanova es un ritmo brasilero, esta canción no se acerca a ese ritmo de música... ;)

  • i love this shivaree girl...i want to sleep with her..

  • this is my aunt :))

    i love her to death!!

    ahah auntie ambrosia parsley!!

    <3.

  • are you serious? i have no way of knowing if you speak the truth, but if you are, please tell her i'm in love with her... i'm female and STRAIGHT as an arrow, but this woman is SO cool and adorable, i'd turn Bi... of all the cool stuff i've found on Youtube, Shivaree is in my top 3...

  • THIS IS NOT BOSSA NOVA !! Those people have no idea what Bossa Nova is about, but stole the name to make money selling this crappy video.

  • although not "classic" Bossa Nova, it IS. They've followed every characteristic rule of true Bossa Nova....I think it's refreshing and really good, personally.

  • Bossa Nova rythm is based on Samba. Do you know what Samba is ? How can you tell this music is based on Samba ? Learn about other cultures. It's hard for Americans to know what culture is about ...

  • Bossa Nova is essentially a rythm, which this one resembles. So why name the song Bossa Nova? The inconsistency between title and acctual rythm used probably illustrates the discrepancy between the lyrics and the mood of the song. Bossa Nova is neither something you can "steal" since it doesn't belong to anyone. The title is in fact clever - and the song refreshing as pointed out - why does everything have to be offending?

  • HAHA I notice that you won't even list your country and it doesn't matter anyway. I am amused by people who generalize entire countries and still manage to think they are superior after doing so.

This is good music; maybe you should just enjoy it rather than insult.

  • digging this... stumbled across it by accident but its groovy, kinda like portishead... me likes!

  • I agree. To quote Borat: "Very nice. How much?"

  • First and Foremost,I enjoy the Song and the Artist.Secondly, doubting that the artist was unable to come up with a name for this, threw random words in a hat to choose the title, and unwilling to argue with hotheads that presume they know the artists reasoning,or took the time to look it up,I looked up bossa nova and find there are three ways and a likely forth and fifth way in which this is a bossa nova.Try it.Take the Bossa Nova Challenge,if you dare.bwahahaha

  • you are hilarious

  • Who cares? Just shut the fuck up and enjoy the music.

I'm sick of you people whining about the title. If it annoys you so much don't listen to it!!!

  • Thanks,Eugenia....

  • you bloody analitic tard-wads.

Stop thinking so much and just enjoy the friggin' song. Who gives a sheet what genre it is?

  • don't you think, that it was the 'trick', when they gave the title? I think this band is more intelligent than you imagine. maybe it's just ironic, huh?

  • Shivaree is above all else prick teasing sex? hahaha ... o k :P

  • Well, I pulled my Nevermind record off my wall and took a sniff... it doesn't smell like teen spirit. Should it? Ha Ha Ha.

  • she is gorg ,,,

  • wow...nice voice....what aboult listening this song on a streaptase night?:D....wonderful....

  • Amazingly, it apparently needs to be said that Not every video should be taken as a literal interpretation of the song!

  • Wow, I don't know where some of these ideas come from, but in the booklet that came with the CD there are photos of her with a black eye. If you just listen to the lyrics (and assume that the video guy had an entirely different agenda, namely to make a watchable video), I think it pretty much speaks for itself

  • It is good that music that is being taken or mimicked from other countries, cultures and music genre are being recognized as such. There is plagiarism in the music industry here (in the US) too. One group took a whole celtic folk music and presented it as their own. This kind of copying and mimicing has to stop in the US and in other places.

  • To CuriousQuestions' comment I must ask, (curious myself): And just what connexion does that have with ANYTHING?!

  • It has to do with the pop music here being prsented here. It is appropriately titled Bossa Nova (it is a form of Bossa Nova), if you have heard of Bossa Nova. It has to do with the whole music industry (around here) AdultBoy! Growing up to be an adult requires some thinking. Boys may not always have that. So thanks for the honest self identification.

  • To curiousquestions: Your comments are very confusing. Are you criticizing or complimenting this song? Do your comments pertain to this song or the US music industry as a whole? The condescending tone with which you are addressing AdultBoyJunior just makes your comments even more convoluted.

  • Do not be confused! I am wondering why a song, in English by an American pop group, sung in a distinct Bossa Nova style is not being recognized as such. The style it is based on is not even heard of by many in the so-called young Music crowd (with gothic haristyle and thick kajal - dark eye makeup). Is the defensive tone I am hearing coming from fear that fakery and copying is going to be flushed out in the US too? Other countries and cultures should start suing.

  • Are you saying that this song should be recognized as borrowing from bossa nova? I have listened to Joao Gilberto, and I know what bossa nova sounds like. This song sounds nothing like bossa nova, not in its rhythm, nor in its chord progression. I think you are just too eager to seek a platform to vent your disgust of the US mainstream music industry. I share a certain resentment of that industry, too, but the way you are using this song as a platform for your contempt seems illogical.

  • Shivaree is an independent American band that has created much original music and is not associated with the mascara-wearing goths you are condemning.

  • The song is titled "Bossa Nova" sir! Is that not enough for you? And listen to the music again. It is borrowing some of the style, no doubt! Are you that clueless or just defending your position for the sake of doing so? Words borrowed from other languages, even if it is blind borrowing, due to stupidty and shallowness, counts. This will be the end of my exchange with you! Good luck!

  • In my past responses, I have striven to refrain from personal attacks, but given the disdain and condescension with which you have treated me, I think I will relax that assumption.

First of all, if you can't point to any element of the music that sounds like bossa nova, I still think you are full of crap and don't even know what bossa nova is yourself.

  • Secondly, you can't claim that the song is bossa nova just because of the name. You can't take everything at face value. For example, you'd think that someone with a user name curiousquestions would be questioning and open-minded. That person could still be just a stubborn dingleberry.

I am not arguing for the sake of arguing. I usually don't like to argue. But in this case, you have somehow insulted Shivaree, a band that I respect and love, and I feel compelled to come to their defense.

  • Are you suggesting that this song borrows from bossa nova? I know what bossa nova sounds like; I have listened to Joao Gilberto and Antonio Jobim. This song sounds nothing like bossa nova. I believe you are trying to vent your disgust of the US music industry and how it appropriates other cultures' music, but this song is an illogical platform off of which to launch your frustration.

  • Bossa Nove is the name of a specific beat. It is not the domain of any group or culture. To claim using a public domain beat type as plagarisn is ridiculous. The song does NOT use a BN beat. If you listen to the lyrics and take that into account you will get what they are trying to say. This song is all about the incongruence between what the speaker is saying and what is actually going on, just like the incongruence between the title and the actual beat used.

  • I really like the song and her voice. The title is puzzling.

  • I don't think it sounds like bossa nova, but there's some similar on the way she sings whispering...and it's a good name for a song anyway. But I thing the girls from Nouvelle Vague band do something more bossa nova...

  • 我喜欢

  • Bossa Nova é Brasil...

  • This is NOT bossa nova.

  • why is this called bossa nova?

  • The "bossa nova" here is probably "that song" she asks the guy to "stop singing".

  • That is quite a stretch.

  • Less of a stretch than flaming the song for not being a bossa nova ^_^

Second-degree song naming is not unusual in "alternative" music.

This one is about the singer's thoughts in a certain situation.

The situation includes a room and a guy and a song: the bossa nova.

  • bossa nova means new wave or more literally new inclination, was applied to music back then, she is singing a song about a change of mind about the relationship thus new mindset = new wave/inclination/music = bossa nova

also bossa nova is not really a narrow definition so this kind of pop-samba-jazz could qualify as bossa nova too :)

  • Sincere boredom and melancholy: not much of a change of mind IMO.

I still think the "song about a song" guess is less far-fetched.

I.e., the bossa nova is what "stop singing that song" refers to.

  • id say its playful and loving too but yeah guess you are right about the guy: he is her new good guy talking nicely (=his song - new to her) and she is/plays the disillusioned melancholic "mess" who toys with him/ plays rejection to test him, more like a half-sincere game

  • very wanderful voice and charisma

  • i love the "96 tears" counterpoint during the middle eight.

  • Don't think its meant to be a real Bossa Nova. Sort of camp - heroin addict/pissed off sex kitten - pretty entertaining

  • What planet is this "Bossa Nova" from?

Try truly Brazilian music, not this.

  • i love the way shes singing, its almost as if she's singing more to herself out of boredom than anything else.

  • Conheça a verdadeira Bossa Nova, Tom Jobim, Vinicuis de moraes, Brasil...

  • Man I want to do Ambrosia so bad....

  • defenitly, not bossa nova

  • does anyone knows another musical video with a boy raped by a woman?anyway shivaree rocks!!!

  • In a really campy way Thalia's Gracias a Dios has a similar woman torturing man scene, only I like this music better.

There have too be more. We should start a list.

  • YO!Here's PIRANHA MASTER.Consider the my post as AIRRAIDSIREN's post.He have posted it,but he have logged in with my account.Sorry.

  • Every Brazilian?! Gosh! That Changes Everything!

  • i prefer the cd version, but this is cool too

  • Every Brazilian can say:this is not Bossa Nova and it has nothing to do with it

  • yok böyle bir ses...

  • var var böyle bir ses...ben yurtdışından seri yaptım.selamlar

  • i love how ambrosia's voice always sounds bored. like there are twenty things she'd rather be doing that singing to you.

  • Man I love this Woman!

  • isso nunca será bossa nova...

nem aqui no brasil nem na coreia do norte!

  • hmmm... We know that, It's just the name of the song, It doesn't mean that the style has to be BOSSA NOVA...

  • Samba Is Defined As Follows: A Brazilian Dance Of African Origin With A Basic Pattern Of Step-Close-Step-Close And Characterized By A Dip And Spring Upward At Each Beat Of The Music ! (c:

  • Are You SURE This Isn't Bossa Nova? Webster Define'S Bossa Nova As A Popular Music Of Brazillian Origin That Is Rhythmically Related To The Samba But With Complex Harmonies And Improvised Jazzlike Passages/A Dance Performed To Bossa Nova Music...

  • hmmm... We know that, It's just the name of the song, It doesn't mean that the style has to be BOSSA NOVA...

  • Well,If You Knew As Much As You Think You Know,You'd Have Noticed My Comment Was Said With A Smile,[unlike your's],That Unless Your Other User Is SzFer,It Was Not Written To You,That I Like The Song And That As Far As I Can Tell The Dictionary Definition Indicates It IS Bossa Nova.

  • This is not bossa nova

  • (hihi)this song is... great! the lyrics oooohh i like it very much^^
