They are nocturnal animals so during the day they like to sleep, but will always be ready for cuddles if you wake 'em up nicely!

Rats do better and play more in pairs (please message me for details on introduction if it is something you'd consider). Just have lots of stuff whereever you let her our that she can explore and she'll love that. Boggling and Bruxing shows contentment but i'm not sure what you're asking really. Does she play?

These two would be the second pair of rats we've had. Unfortunately no videos for the other pair. Also getting three girls after christmas, there will be vids of them lol.

If your rats are getting through the bars you need to change your cage. There's nothing else for it, the cage you have is not suitable for the rats you have. If possible, i'd recommend a cage with bars like the one you can see at the start of this video, so sqaures and not just straight bars. Let me know any questions

Please only get rats in pairs or more. One rat would be a very lonely rat, which leads to a less happy rat.

There's a bit of confusion as to which type of rat these are. Best information right now says that they are European Huskey rats. Other people believe they are Roan's. :)

Rats are naturally great jumpers but the way to teach them is to tempt them across really small gaps with treats as they get more and more comfortable you just increase the gap little by little. These two will jump up to about a metre now :)

My rat's 1/5 years old, and I have 2 questions.

One: is he too old to learn tricks?

two: how come everytime I take him out of his cage, he pees on everything? And can I get him to stop that?

By 1/5 years old ... do you mean a fifth of a year? Two months? Because I'm confused as that's really really young still. Anyway:

1. No rat is too old to start learning tricks, they love the training and will learn to associate the task with treats faster than you imagine :), just try him :)

2. Pee-ing on everything happens for a number of reasons, one of them because its somewhere or something new, give him time to explore and it should settle down loads (although never completely)

hey, i got my rats two one month old boys(videos soon to come)

their both from the same litter, but one a tiny bit bigger(their same the age) the bigger one tackles the smaller one and flips him on his back. while this is happening, the smaller one squeaks a couple of times, then the bigger one gets off. are they just playing?

are male rats as babies hyper then get calmer has they mature??

The bigger one is showing dominance and the smaller one is submitting to him. Its very young for that sort of behaviour to be honest so you need to watch that the bigger one does not develop this behaviour into anything more agressive but for now - yes, you're correct - its mostly just playing between them. All rats will become more calm with age but if you have lively ones that may not happen for a long time, enjoy their hyper moments though, they're lots of fun :D

When you pick them up - scoop them up from underneath, don't come from above as this is how prey would and will scare them. Don't feed them through the bars - put your hand in the cage, let them smell your hand and get used to it then offer them a treat inside. That way they won't bite fingers through the bars but will play with them and lick them instead. Just handle them lots and be kind to them and the trust will come. I'll send you a message about behaviour but it should be fine.

oh where should i put my boys when i clean their cage? i dont trust them enough YET to let them free range while cleaning. i cant wait till i can though.

With my cage I'm able to affectively lock them in just one level so i can clean out the other levels and then move them again and clean out the final level, so they basically stay within the cage. Once a month i then do a deep-clean (lol) and for that i leave them on the sofa. If you don't have anywhere you trust them with I'd suggest inviting a friend round who could babysit them whilst you clean? :)

sorry for my jabbering of questions but i beginng to wonder if the bigger rat( names Gir) is show aggresiveness, hes been tackling gizmo( smaller rat) and gizmo sqeaks. i know i said it before but its happening frequently now and when i pet gizmo, gir trys to get in my way of gizmo.ALSO i thnk gir nibbles a little at gizmo because he squeaks when gir put his face on him.

i've got a big problem and i wondered if anyone could help...

My mom is apparently alergic to the smell the rats make and i think it's because i put toilet paper and fabric. but they like it cuase otherwise there cage is near enoguh empty so all they do is sit there and sleep. How do i make toys that won't smell? and i see u use shredded paper in your cage and i looks like it has just been put in there. do u change the paper everyday? cheers if u can help me ^ ^

The shredded paper gets changed daily at the top where they sleep and weekly at the bottom as part of the weekly cage clean. (normal paper or newspaper shredded). Not sure about making toys that won't smell ... ? How do you mean? Are you sure its the smell she is allergic to as it could be a number of things including the hairs that they moult. You should also get the rats out daily to play outside the cage to keep them active and happy. Hope this helps, contact me if you have more questions.

well when i walk into the room where the rats r and the smell of rat wee sumtimes is strong. and she says she gets ill because of it. i use wood little at the bottom of my cage now. the cage fresh stuff i used to use made my rats smell musty. but thats not the reason i changed. my mom and stepdad just suddenly bought the little and sed use that. lmao. but i think i will use the shredded paper thing and changed where they sleep everyday like u sed.

Long as the rats are happy and get time to play with each other and you then its fine, there's no hard and fast rule. Its just about giving them time out of the cage, time to have fun and time with you :).

Mine seem to like the paper, sawdust and the likes can cause respiratory trouble and can bring mite eggs etc into the cage so i try to avoid that, but best thing would probably be to try different ideas and see how the rats get on with each. Changing the bedding daily whatever you use will help lots. Let me know if you find something great.

They've always been fussy about playing with toys. The orange ball that spits out food is popular now they've learnt how to use it. Beyond that, honestly, they're happiest playing in old jumpers and toilet roll tubes. :)
