  • This is too funny, Benko tried to protect himself with sunglasses. lol

  • whatever that ranking system is maybe favorites great but cmon gary would shred anyone in that list

  • He had only three fingers on his right hand.

  • Yeah, he had ectrodactyly--his hand looked like a wicked claw.

  • 1 fischer 2 alekhine 3 capablanca 4 spasski 5 petrossian 6 morphy 7 anatoly karpov 8 gary kasparov 9 tal 10 botvinnik

  • @TRUEMAN8919

Lasker was named the best ever by capablanca and alekine.

Also his precentage and successes were beter hen most of the above, if not all.

  • @TRUEMAN8919 1 fischer 2 tal 3 garry kasparov 4 morphy 5 alekhine 6 capablanca 7 karpov 8 lasker 9 anderssen 10 petrossian

  • @Simangel1307 I think your list is good fischer must always be at the top

  • @TRUEMAN8919 sure

  • somebody in 0:32 french kissed tal:).. kind of french defense hehe.. rip great master

  • in fact draw was in the last game but the joke was in the 3rd talwins in about 20 moves this game

  • Narrator: "At some point in Belgrade a rumour has spread...Tal the hypnotist, he disturbs your thoughts. You calculate an attack and suddenly naked women are flashing across your mind. How can you play when the only thing you can think of...are women?!

So in the match against Tal, Benko put on a pair of black sunglasses and played in the dark. Well, it didn't really help him much, Tal finished the match with perpetual check and became the winner of the candidates tournament at the age of 23."

  • Some newscaster or something: "From Jugoslavia to the homeland - Mihail Tal, soviet chess-player and winner of the candidates tournament returns home and is now on the right way to challenge world champion Mikhail Botvinnik. In the name of his comrades Mikhail Tal said:"

  • Mikhail Tal: "I'm very happy that GMs Paul Keres, Tigran Petrosian, Vasily Smyslov and myself took the first 4 places and...[video cuts off]"

Narrator: "He scored the first victory and prepared for the next one, but the first move in this match...[video cuts off]"

  • Tal was pretty good lookin back in his day. no wonder that one dude kissed him on the mouth

  • he looks like Joaquin Phonenix without the cut on the nose...

  • Awesome footage! I finally hear my favourite player's voice : )

  • See the video Michail Tal posted by the same guy as this one and you see/hear Tal talk during a blindfold simul

  • The story was that Tal got Petrosian to get him a big joke pair of sunglasses in response to Benko - I wonder if there is a picture of that

  • It was marvellous to see Benko in darkglasses trying to counter Tals "stare" - actually on the videos I've see here Tal's "stare " actually just looks like freindly inquisitiveness rather than a psyche out ploy.

See the video with Tal vFischer from 59 to see what I mean.

  • I asked my good Ukrainian buddy to translate the video- For anyone interested the jist of it is he was playing blindfold (making moves without sight of the board) and he had an amazing memory because he made all moves against his opponents in the exhibition without looking at a board- they put him in a special room without anything to show how good a memory he had just after having a major surgery at 33 years old.

  • When i refered Morphy, Alekhine, Tal, Fischer, Kasparov and Morosevich, i was talking about PURE CHESS TALENT.

Yes, I cam put Magnus Carlsen there.

    Not Karpov or Botvinnik.

    See me on

    viriatovitch chess blogspot c o m

  • I don´t agree with you. First, you missed Capablanca...And about talent, Karpov solving etudes at early age, Botvinnik beating Capablanca at twelve (simultaneos games, but don´t mind). Therés no such thing as "pure chess talent". There´s a lot of work. An this especially true with Fischer, Alekhine and Botvinnik.

  • Yes, i missed Capablanca.

If in a near future apeares a guy from Jamaica or Angola with few conditions to play chess, of course you wll say that pure chess talent don`t exist.

Lot of chess players in all times had work a lot.

  • anderssen

  • Benko's son is my calculus teacher. Real cool guy.

  • Beautiful: Benkö wearing sun glasses against Tal's hypnotic fluidum!

  • Morphy, Alekhine. Tal, Fischer, Kasparov, Morosevich.

So many players, but yhis are the chess genius.

    English version, please.

  • karjakin, ponomarev, anand, Magnus, nimzo, botvi, stein, karpov... you missed a lot of greats

  • stein = Steinitz, Rubinstein or Bronstein?

    also Lasker, Keres, Najdorf, etc.

  • no dummy. stein was a chess genius as well. get you game up fool

  • Mikhail Tal, The man in chess greats!

  • In some countries it is not unusual!

  • So it seems

  • did that one guy kissed Tal in the mouth?

  • yes. They do so in Russia. So don't take it personally if you ever travel there and that happens to you ;-)

  • Lol! I would politely say "No, thank you, I really appreciate it. Here, have a hug"... hahahaha!!

  • they do so in russia? you are an idiot. im russian and never have been kissed on the mouth. homophobic bastards

  • homophobic? (fear of homosexuality)
