Narrator: "At some point in Belgrade a rumour has spread...Tal the hypnotist, he disturbs your thoughts. You calculate an attack and suddenly naked women are flashing across your mind. How can you play when the only thing you can think of...are women?!
So in the match against Tal, Benko put on a pair of black sunglasses and played in the dark. Well, it didn't really help him much, Tal finished the match with perpetual check and became the winner of the candidates tournament at the age of 23."
Some newscaster or something: "From Jugoslavia to the homeland - Mihail Tal, soviet chess-player and winner of the candidates tournament returns home and is now on the right way to challenge world champion Mikhail Botvinnik. In the name of his comrades Mikhail Tal said:"
It was marvellous to see Benko in darkglasses trying to counter Tals "stare" - actually on the videos I've see here Tal's "stare " actually just looks like freindly inquisitiveness rather than a psyche out ploy.
See the video with Tal vFischer from 59 to see what I mean.
I asked my good Ukrainian buddy to translate the video- For anyone interested the jist of it is he was playing blindfold (making moves without sight of the board) and he had an amazing memory because he made all moves against his opponents in the exhibition without looking at a board- they put him in a special room without anything to show how good a memory he had just after having a major surgery at 33 years old.
I don´t agree with you. First, you missed Capablanca...And about talent, Karpov solving etudes at early age, Botvinnik beating Capablanca at twelve (simultaneos games, but don´t mind). Therés no such thing as "pure chess talent". There´s a lot of work. An this especially true with Fischer, Alekhine and Botvinnik.
This is too funny, Benko tried to protect himself with sunglasses. lol

The story was that Tal got Petrosian to get him a big joke pair of sunglasses in response to Benko - I wonder if there is a picture of that

When i refered Morphy, Alekhine, Tal, Fischer, Kasparov and Morosevich, i was talking about PURE CHESS TALENT.
Yes, I cam put Magnus Carlsen there.
Not Karpov or Botvinnik.

Yes, i missed Capablanca.
If in a near future apeares a guy from Jamaica or Angola with few conditions to play chess, of course you wll say that pure chess talent don`t exist.
Lot of chess players in all times had work a lot.
