  • I bet that sounds like a right old monster now ;) very nice.

  • How was your oil pressure on the start up? What figures are getting, while idling vs. cruise ?

  • 00:41 Sort your head out mate.

  • Can't beat the sound of a V8

    Check out our start-up of a RV8.

    Search for "Deranged Rover"

  • What is year of Defender?

  • It's a 1989 Defender. I believe the engine block, pistons and rods to be from a 1986 engine. The rest is either new or from another engine, age unknown.

  • That is when it has no exhaust, thats downpipes and y-piece only!

I've actually git a full system on there now, but only the small rear silencer not the big middle one. I'll try and post up a video of how it sounds now - lurrrvly and sweet!

  • Sweet sound! My V8 doesnt sound anything like that, how have you set up your exhaust system?

  • why did it sound a bit rough starting it up?

  • Because that was the first EVER start-up of the completely rebuilt engine, on brand new carbs etc, so the carbs weren't balanced, the tickover setting wasn't set etc. It was under-fuelling so when I pushed the throttle it starved of petrol.

Also the timing was WAY out (by 1 whole timing cog!) so it was slow and lumpy and under-powered.

It now sounds much better and is far more powerful because the timing is sorted, and fuelling is 90% there.
