It's a 1989 Defender. I believe the engine block, pistons and rods to be from a 1986 engine. The rest is either new or from another engine, age unknown.
That is when it has no exhaust, thats downpipes and y-piece only!
I've actually git a full system on there now, but only the small rear silencer not the big middle one. I'll try and post up a video of how it sounds now - lurrrvly and sweet!
Because that was the first EVER start-up of the completely rebuilt engine, on brand new carbs etc, so the carbs weren't balanced, the tickover setting wasn't set etc. It was under-fuelling so when I pushed the throttle it starved of petrol.
Also the timing was WAY out (by 1 whole timing cog!) so it was slow and lumpy and under-powered.
It now sounds much better and is far more powerful because the timing is sorted, and fuelling is 90% there.
I bet that sounds like a right old monster now ;) very nice.
