Have carried this Knife for about 10 Months now everyday without fail. As a Firefighter/EMT though I with sweating and moisture, I've had some rust on the blade. Very minimal rust but that's the only thing I've noticed with it so far.
I've had this knife for a while. Definite micro-chipping, as with all my 8CR13MOV knives. I don't like these zytel handles. Very rough. The assisted opening is nice.
Thank you for your review nutnfancy. I am a 13 year old kid and you have introduced me into the knife community. I bought tons of knives that you have reviewed, but mostly the spydercos. Your endura review made me purchase all of the different colors of the ffg kind. The same goes for this ososweet. I bought five more kershaws because of this review. Thanks :)
I bought my friend the Oso Sweet as a birthday gift, and the steel is 8cr13mov. He's had it since February and he loves it, although it has dulled slightly, some light touching up will bring it back to the razor edge it came with. Very happy with the purchase Nutn, thanks for the review you sealed the deal for me.
Kershaw better give you some love. Your review helped nudge me to pull the trigger and I bought four of them for a classy EDC gift pack I'm putting together for my Groom's Men
Picked up one of these the other day before I saw this review. Kershaw has upgraded the steel to 8Cr13MoV and adopted a hollow grind that only reaches about halfway to the spine. Still to be had for $20. Very pleased with it and it is riding in my pocket as I write this!
Thanks to Nutn & either Crocket himself or a commenter on one of his vids for the recommendations on this knife. This will be my first PROPER edc blade :) I just bought it from some Hong Kong guy on ebay for $15. They have good feedback and actual pictures of the product so it looks legit haha.
Just bought this knife this morning from a local dealer. I used change from around my house to pay for ($20). I like to try and support local businesses when I can. This is a great knife. Speed is great. Sits in the hand very well and doesn't seem to slip. Thanks for another great suggestion Nutn!
I just got the oso sweet and even though it said aus 6 in the magazine when I got it the blade is 8cr13mov steel which is fine with me. It seems more like aus 8. So apparently they changed the steel on the newer ones.
I own the new version, it's a great knife! It's my EDC, the grip on this knife is excellent, it won't slip, the blade locks in place very well, no play in the blade at all.
It drives me nuts.. everytime I check Your corner store they never have what I'm looking for or a knife you've reviewed. It makes me a little sad. Oh well. =(
I carry this every day and it's my second OSO Sweet knive. I'm a diesel mechanic, my hand's are greasy/oily alot of the time and it dosen't slip. It comes out of the box sharp, as you use and dull it, it's easy to put a edge back on. My uniform's get cleaned by a outside company, that's how I lost my last one. The price makes it possible to loose one and not be too pissed off. In a bind I have used this knive to scrape gaskets and many other random things. You don't have to worry about it.
I just got one...they changed the knife a little since your review. Now, it's 8cr13MoV steel convex ground blade, but everything else is pretty much the same...save the price, but 29.99 @ Cabela's was still a deal!
Nutn, here is an update on the Oso Sweet. Kershaw made a change in the design. First off they changed the blade design. The blade no longer has a flat grind. It looks more like the Skyline in shape and has a very slight concave grind. The metal is now 8Cr13MoV. It looks like the liners that were in the older one were very thin. The new one has pretty thick liners and the knife now weighs in at 4.2 oz.'s. The blade locks up very solidly with the liner lock pretty stiff. Was not sharp out of box.
@timsatx i agree with all here, except the one i just bought is as sharp as my other two kershaws were when new. it slices through packaging like butter and it'll shave the hair off my arm easily. fortunately for you though even if you can't return it to the store for another one, you can just send it into kershaw and they'll sharpen it for free (you just pay for UPS or FEDEX shipping).
@DanAmerican I didn't have enough space to write everything. Don't get me wrong, it was fairly sharp. If I was careful I could cut the hair on my arm, but I gues it isn't as sharp as I would expect. A previous Kershaw (similar to the LEEK) had the hair running away from me. It isn't any really big deal though. On all my knives I use my Lansky to reprofile the blade (The Leek like one already had a good angle). The Lansky saves me shipping charges ;-)
I disagree on tip-up carry. If I reach down and grab a tip-up knife, I'm holding the pommel end with two or three fingers, and must use the other hand to flip it around. If it's tip-down, my thumb and forefinger are already at the pivot point where they should be, and I just have to pivot my hand and the whole knife is now in position. I would prefer to draw in a way that puts my fingers where they will be when the knife is open, and for that reason, it's just illogical to carry tip-up.
nutnfancy, I just got my Kershaw Skyline and it is amazingly sharp! Just like you said bro, sharp as a razor out-of-box. Very nice knife, thanks for the reviews!! They're fun
Super review man. Just baught me this blsde. I think thrre isnt much wrong with aus6 on this knife as it shouldnt be put under too mech abuse. Keep the vids coming dude
I would love to see a review on the Kershaw Breakout Auto. It is a light thin and strong knife that I think you would love. I would like to buy one, although I would like to see what you think about it. Great Video!
Hmm.. which to purchase, the Oso Sweet or the Skyline?? The speedsafe assisted manual in the oso seems like a huge plus for it, i'll admit, but what is this about a "new" oso sweet which is inferior to the original?
The new oso is pretty bad, I'm gonna abuse it to hell just to get my money's worth before it breaks.
They never advertised the change, even the site I bought it from had a picture of the first one, when I got the thing I wondered if there was a mistake. Nope, no mistake, just Kershaw being sneaky.
I bought the new version of the Oso Sweet and an OD-2 at Sports Authority. I like my Oso but there's a few problems with it. First, after about an hour of just flipping it open and shut, the blade started to favor then rub one side of the liners and is slanted from pivot end to tip while folded. It's so bad that I have to force the blade left so it won't rub while folding so I can preserve the edge (8Cr13MoV BTW). The pivot screw is also loose and I don't have any tools to tighten it down with.
@ChAnDoN864430 Dude...I have both, and I'd have to say that the Tenacious handle is a little beefier...which I really like. BOTH are great blades though!
I hope ya answer!! I ama huge fan but never get a response. Ok I will stop whinning! My question is pretty forward. Does Kershaw make a good knife? I have an Emerson CQC7B and a Benchmade Auto Stryker and a Spyderco Police Issue. I am tired of all of them. I was going to get a Kershaw but got talkedout of it by a dealer at a gun show. Said they were "crap" knives. Told me Gerber was the only way to go. Kershaw bueno y no bueno? Keep up the great vids!
Hey Nutn, thanks for the review... Have you tried, and do you have any thoughts on the Kershaw OD-2? It's another of their smaller, cheaper, Chinese-made knives. Only 1.4 Ounces? I just purchased one, but it hasn't arrived yet, so I'm hoping Kershaw quality will carry across even to their smallest and cheapest knives...
UPDATE: The new Oso Sweet has a slightly different blade shape, is made out of a different steel (8Cr13MoV), and is hollow ground instead of flat ground. Currently the knife can be found for under $25
@Skunkofoot TheLateBoyScout goes through all of the differences in one of his videos. I bought mine at a local sports/outdoors store a little over a week ago. I saw it was the older version and had to get it. lol The blade steel isn't as good as the new one I think, but the older version has more of the 2nd type of cool while maintaining a great level of the 1st type of cool for me. :D
@DefMunky75 I agree, I like the blade shape of the 1st gen Oso Sweet as well. That being said, I prefer the hollow grind of the 2nd gen and the better steel choice. If I could find the 1st gen, I think I'd buy that one too, cause I like them both, but as far as performance is concerned, I think the 2nd gen will perform slightly better.
I was about to buy this knife off of this recommendation, and then my gf went and bought it for me! >.< Absolutely great knife for the price. At first glance I thought it looked cheap, but when you hold it, it feels very sturdy in hand. Definitely recommend this knife.
I would ask this under the Skyline review, but since I can't I'll ask here lol:
Will the G10 handle texture under the clip on the Skyline eat through your pocket material like the unmodified Cold Steel Voyager handle's texture? I bought the knife a few days ago and I love it, but the texture seems like it could be abrasive. I just want to make sure I'm not going to fubar the pockets in my work pants after a while by carrying this knife.
I actually had the sppedsafe mechanism on my oso sweet totally fail on me. I took it apart, and the torsion bar had broken in half. Kind of a bummer, because i really liked it as an edc knife. But Kershaw said they'd replace it no questions asked...
A bit late on the uptake, but I just picked one of these up and I love it! Not super-crazy about the steel, but that SpeedSafe opening is addictive! I also have very dry hands, so I'm working on a mod to make the handle more tractable.
"Made in China" - if you want children making 80cents a day to make your steel, this is your knife. If you want to keep Americans *actually manufacturing TOOLS*, then spend ten bucks more and buy the Kershaw Skyline. Quality tools should last a man's lifetime. Happy Independence Day! Those are words to be honored, not mouthed in vain. Buy American as often as you can.

this knife is a chinese piece of shit. the "speed assist" breaks after a month or so , (I've had 3 of these things and they always break under very moderate use.) DON'T BUY THIS PIECE OF JUNK!!!
My Oso Sweet arrived in the mail yesterday. Surprised to find out that they changed it to a hollow ground blade, 8Cr13MoV, and increased the weight of the knife to 4 oz....
It's still a good enought knife for $20, but I'm kinda of disappointed in the heavier weight!
side doesnt bite on anything.) I ground the flipper, just a little to make it easier on the hand. while on the topic of sharp the liner lock was very hard on the thumb, the clip is still the same, no change there. most of the points you mention that are good are still found, great lockup, the speedsafe system is amazingly fast and solid. This knife is still a great knife, but a few of the changes make me less willing to carry as often as some others.
The blade as it came out of the box, was not that sharp I felt that i needed to touch it up on a stone. They have changed the grind on the blade, it is only halfway ground, using hallow grinding. The flipper is a lot sharper, I have held an older model and mine is very sharp on the finger, the edges really dig into the tips of my finger, I had to take the knife apart, (a real pain to do, not easily user serviceable.those mini torx do not come out easy because of the bolt on the other
I just got this knife yesterday, I just wanted to give you an update about this knife. As we all know knife makers change the design as they see fit to make the knife better, or to cut production costs. Kershaw has done some cool things some not so great. the good thing, in my opinion. they have extended both liners to go all the way out to the edge, the zytel does not "wrap" around the liners any more.Still using AUS6 on the blade.
I picked up this knife today because of this review and because i know i can trust you nutnfancy, always puting the truth out there on items like this, highly appreciated. Keep up the good work, and by the way, this is the second time ive bought a knife that you have reviewed.
Based on your recommendation I bought this knife and I have to say and recommend- this is the perfect EDC knife for any college student. Its cheap, sufficient for anything a college student will need, the assisted opening makes it a very enjoyable knife, and the mediocre steel quality/lack of jimping really isn't an issue in any tasks that would require a college student to use a blade. Thanks for the review nutnfancy!
I actually like the new one fine. It's only 4.2 ounces. Not a deal breaker in my opinion. They increased the thickness of the blade and the liners in the new one. I do prefer the old blade grind though. Not a fan of the new one. Still a great knife though, and I love mine.
Nutn, AUS 6 by Kerhsaw is actually really good for what it is. Kershaw's AUS 6HC is even better by a significant margin. I have no issues with it, given the POU: EDC.
I wish I could still find the 2.8 oz AUS 6a version of this knife (if you have one for sale, give me a shout). If you buy one new today you get a 4+ oz version with 8Cr13MoV and a totally different blade grind. That new steel is great, but the new weight and blade grind really suck!
does anyone know what size the skrews are on the pocket clip? i lost one of them them and i dont wanna wait four weeks for kershaw to replace my blade
i just got the knife... wensday cut myself thursday had surgery last night(good thing im canadain) and yet i still love this knife its great came, yep sharp super sharp cut to the bone sharp... im good now and still a huge knife fan this was my first assisted opener and im a big fan thanks nutn'
If you guys have ANY effect on manufacturers, can you please tell Kershaw that some people are lefthanded, and it wouldn't be too much of a hassle for them to drill holes for the carrying clip on both sides of the knife :D
I own a Kershaw regardless, and would like to directly say thanks to you all at the NFP
Hey Nutn' In your knife vids, would you make comments on how a lefty may or may not like a certain knife. I have now been well educated on what to look for in a knife...Thanks to you. Being a lefty, I need to find a knife that has the option to located the belt clip on the other side of the knive. The ZT0 350 allows that. Sadly, the liner lock, being slightly higher than the other side of the knife impedes using the thumb knob. This would be a good example of what I mean. We lefties have it hard
@snoprog the one advantage to most of the kershaw speedsafe knives is that they can at least be opened with either hand due to the thru-the-handle-while-shut protrusion that duals as a blade guard.
i dont know why they dont leagelise knifes in the uk coz im allways carryin my benchmade LFK and a boker jim wagner knife as sfety and to help people plz reply
hey nutnfancy i like the vids nice knives for one of your talking points you should use American made i don't know about u but for me that is a major concern. if i can get superior American made products for the same price as the competitors i will.
I have had both of those knives for a couple months now and love them both. The OSO sweet seems to be easier on the pocket and more ergonomic. So far the edge has been holding fine. I took the pocket clips off of both of them as I carry in a pocket loose. Nice review.
i just ordered one from REI. com i lucked out by getting two 5 dollar gift cards early today cant wait the blades legally to long for me to carry but most likely itll still be on me or in the car
nutnfancy reminds me of the steve irwin when he finds a crocodile in the wild. He sounds just like him except hes not Australian and his passion is knives lol Great review like always
I just found out that my local hunting/camping chain is selling these on Black Friday for $12.98!!! Is it worth picking up? I wouldn't even have to pay shipping.
Try the CRKT M-16 if you like the assited opening of this blade. The CRKT has a little better steel, and it has a safety lock on the liner lock, which makes it less likely to close on you. Price is comparable as well. But leave it up to Nutn to find us the better bargain and still have some quality.
Nutnfancy, great video! I really felt a strong mojo emanating from you on this one. Having already had the Oso in my collection for some time, I can say I think you covered every possible point of this cool knife. Very well articulated with nice little dashes of trademark Nutnfancy humor sprinkled in. Well done.
witch knife do you like best out of them all that you show at the end of the video? because i like them all but i only can get one right now. please message back!!
hey whats up nutnfancy first off i have to say i love your reviews im have a question what is a EDC blade? and again love your vids dude cant wait to see the next 1
another excellent review! I find that any time I am looking to buy another knife, I come to your page and watch your reviews first! one thing im curious about, are kershaw knives no longer made in the US? I noticed that the oso sweet blade said China on it, and I have a friend with an old Black Gulch that says Japan
Watch the liner lock on this knife. With it being so exposed, you will have to be careful not to disengage it while handling it. I teach bladed self defense. If you extract the blade after a stab, the propper way, with a twisting motion, you will cause the blade to close on you. I learned this the hard way, during stab practice.
love kershaws have about 8 that i rotate for edc the drone, compound, and volt II are my personal favourites needs work is another good one too

ChAnDoN864430 1 year ago
@ChAnDoN864430 Dude...I have both, and I'd have to say that the Tenacious handle is a little beefier...which I really like. BOTH are great blades though!

can I answer your question??? lol SKYLINE and it's not even close...
Bwheat7 1 year ago
I hope ya answer!! I ama huge fan but never get a response. Ok I will stop whinning! My question is pretty forward. Does Kershaw make a good knife? I have an Emerson CQC7B and a Benchmade Auto Stryker and a Spyderco Police Issue. I am tired of all of them. I was going to get a Kershaw but got talkedout of it by a dealer at a gun show. Said they were "crap" knives. Told me Gerber was the only way to go. Kershaw bueno y no bueno? Keep up the great vids!

alex1231577 1 year ago
Hey Nutn, thanks for the review... Have you tried, and do you have any thoughts on the Kershaw OD-2? It's another of their smaller, cheaper, Chinese-made knives. Only 1.4 Ounces? I just purchased one, but it hasn't arrived yet, so I'm hoping Kershaw quality will carry across even to their smallest and cheapest knives...

UPDATE: The new Oso Sweet has a slightly different blade shape, is made out of a different steel (8Cr13MoV), and is hollow ground instead of flat ground. Currently the knife can be found for under $25
Skunkofoot 1 year ago
@Skunkofoot TheLateBoyScout goes through all of the differences in one of his videos. I bought mine at a local sports/outdoors store a little over a week ago. I saw it was the older version and had to get it. lol The blade steel isn't as good as the new one I think, but the older version has more of the 2nd type of cool while maintaining a great level of the 1st type of cool for me. :D
DefMunky75 1 year ago
@DefMunky75 I agree, I like the blade shape of the 1st gen Oso Sweet as well. That being said, I prefer the hollow grind of the 2nd gen and the better steel choice. If I could find the 1st gen, I think I'd buy that one too, cause I like them both, but as far as performance is concerned, I think the 2nd gen will perform slightly better.
Skunkofoot 1 year ago
I was about to buy this knife off of this recommendation, and then my gf went and bought it for me! >.< Absolutely great knife for the price. At first glance I thought it looked cheap, but when you hold it, it feels very sturdy in hand. Definitely recommend this knife.

I defiantly agree with the comments in the beginning about the skyline - great edc!! I do not own the oso but it looks pretty sick. much love for TNP
kornozzyc4 1 year ago
I would ask this under the Skyline review, but since I can't I'll ask here lol:
Will the G10 handle texture under the clip on the Skyline eat through your pocket material like the unmodified Cold Steel Voyager handle's texture? I bought the knife a few days ago and I love it, but the texture seems like it could be abrasive. I just want to make sure I'm not going to fubar the pockets in my work pants after a while by carrying this knife.

How come on every assisted knife you open you bring it out of frame and still use your wrist action as if it was a non-assisted knife? Just curious.
flipteezy 1 year ago
@flipteezy It keeps his muscle memory, if he trys to open a manual like an assisted, it wont open, so he opens them the same to make sure they open.

I actually had the sppedsafe mechanism on my oso sweet totally fail on me. I took it apart, and the torsion bar had broken in half. Kind of a bummer, because i really liked it as an edc knife. But Kershaw said they'd replace it no questions asked...
pirahna432 1 year ago
A bit late on the uptake, but I just picked one of these up and I love it! Not super-crazy about the steel, but that SpeedSafe opening is addictive! I also have very dry hands, so I'm working on a mod to make the handle more tractable.

side doesnt bite on anything.) I ground the flipper, just a little to make it easier on the hand. while on the topic of sharp the liner lock was very hard on the thumb, the clip is still the same, no change there. most of the points you mention that are good are still found, great lockup, the speedsafe system is amazingly fast and solid. This knife is still a great knife, but a few of the changes make me less willing to carry as often as some others.
2039mtnbkr 1 year ago
The blade as it came out of the box, was not that sharp I felt that i needed to touch it up on a stone. They have changed the grind on the blade, it is only halfway ground, using hallow grinding. The flipper is a lot sharper, I have held an older model and mine is very sharp on the finger, the edges really dig into the tips of my finger, I had to take the knife apart, (a real pain to do, not easily user serviceable.those mini torx do not come out easy because of the bolt on the other
2039mtnbkr 1 year ago
I just got this knife yesterday, I just wanted to give you an update about this knife. As we all know knife makers change the design as they see fit to make the knife better, or to cut production costs. Kershaw has done some cool things some not so great. the good thing, in my opinion. they have extended both liners to go all the way out to the edge, the zytel does not "wrap" around the liners any more.Still using AUS6 on the blade.

Thanks for the review nutnfancy!

this one is so going on my list...
Whisper6911 1 year ago
I actually like the new one fine. It's only 4.2 ounces. Not a deal breaker in my opinion. They increased the thickness of the blade and the liners in the new one. I do prefer the old blade grind though. Not a fan of the new one. Still a great knife though, and I love mine.
JCTheSniper15 1 year ago
Nutn, AUS 6 by Kerhsaw is actually really good for what it is. Kershaw's AUS 6HC is even better by a significant margin. I have no issues with it, given the POU: EDC.
Reaper87xx 1 year ago
I wish I could still find the 2.8 oz AUS 6a version of this knife (if you have one for sale, give me a shout). If you buy one new today you get a 4+ oz version with 8Cr13MoV and a totally different blade grind. That new steel is great, but the new weight and blade grind really suck!

Hey nutn and crew,
If you guys have ANY effect on manufacturers, can you please tell Kershaw that some people are lefthanded, and it wouldn't be too much of a hassle for them to drill holes for the carrying clip on both sides of the knife :D
I own a Kershaw regardless, and would like to directly say thanks to you all at the NFP
Spanky00Cheeks 1 year ago
Hey Nutn' In your knife vids, would you make comments on how a lefty may or may not like a certain knife. I have now been well educated on what to look for in a knife...Thanks to you. Being a lefty, I need to find a knife that has the option to located the belt clip on the other side of the knive. The ZT0 350 allows that. Sadly, the liner lock, being slightly higher than the other side of the knife impedes using the thumb knob. This would be a good example of what I mean. We lefties have it hard
snoprog 2 years ago 13
@snoprog the one advantage to most of the kershaw speedsafe knives is that they can at least be opened with either hand due to the thru-the-handle-while-shut protrusion that duals as a blade guard.

Try the CRKT M-16 if you like the assited opening of this blade. The CRKT has a little better steel, and it has a safety lock on the liner lock, which makes it less likely to close on you. Price is comparable as well. But leave it up to Nutn to find us the better bargain and still have some quality.

integman2000 2 years ago
Watch the liner lock on this knife. With it being so exposed, you will have to be careful not to disengage it while handling it. I teach bladed self defense. If you extract the blade after a stab, the propper way, with a twisting motion, you will cause the blade to close on you. I learned this the hard way, during stab practice.
