Great post! I remember watching this on TV in Glasgow vowing to go one day. Never did. Bought almost the whole soundtrack from the show mind you. Rhythm Is Rhythm - Is What It Is a particular favorite still!! Opened my eyes to real dance music for the 1st time. Oh aye, and I thought you and your mate were as cool as f*ck dancing on that platform. LOL. Happy days indeed!
start of the end...was going in the hac in 85/86 saw mantronix/joyce sims all sorts of top stuff, before acid kicked of a year or so later, and i was swept along with it big time.
But the hitman and her in the hac was like being violated by a pineapple. fucking posers and wannabees in my church. Hardly any of the 'heads' in there that night, i remember a pal of mine all over that micheala, and making sure she had a good time...
i pose about being a original poster boy for acid house...
Was in Manc in the eighties, heard the first metroplex/model 500 records from eblock. I hated all that happy Mondays shit and Stone roses shit. It was crap to see that rock and dance mix. I know for some it was great. I loved and do so to this day love the detroit tech/electro thing(drexciya, aux 88,Doppler, ectomorph, etc Hacienda was good but ended up full of wanky students who declared Manchester theirs. It's on their cvs now.
@osomy i agree; was in Manc during the lates 80's early 90's and was a pure House & Techno head and at the time had NO interest in all the indie stuff, I just saw it as guitar rock which to me was the polar opposite of what the acid/house movement was all about. Loads of people saw it that way. It wasn't until mid to late 90s I got into the Roses with their Second coming album and then my all round musical taste started to diversify.
and who spotted sash also ... looking funky in his sunglasses ... he used to knock around with our crew back in the day .... we got him in there that night and he used to learn how to mix records in the jolly in marple with ray the dj lol ....
HI all .... yeh i will eventually get around to putting more of the show online ... was a well... different night from the usual hac51 antics to say the least + we all hated pete but loved makailer machailer ??? any way yes ironside ... my pal doug if you know him he is on Facebook lol
Wow what a small world the interweb is, one of my mates went out and copied your friend's Doug's outfit after this show!!!! It was so great to see Waterman so lost and out of his depth at the Hacienda!
