When he tunes usinge EEEEBE which direction does the G string go...Up or down...I've broken several strings trying to tune it...so I just drop it down...it rings better.... Does he use your C tuning on Black Queen or did you improvise with your tuning....
@photosfromphilly the tuning that you refer to is the one he uses in stuff like 4+20 and he actually tunes EBEEBE (contrary to popular belief)..and the G goes down to E so the 3rd and 4th strings are actually in unison....there are a couple of versions of black queen one stills uses an ordinary double drop D tuning ....and the live version he uses the C tuning (which is basically a double drop D lowered down a full tone (2 frets) ) ....hope this helps.....Kev
@dontlookback1978 Hi Adrian....music has been good to me over the years...and I think its nice to try and give a little back now and then ...but finding the time is my main problem these days....anyway I'm very pleased you found it useful...all the very best...Kev
@jpd464 Thank you ...and yes the whole of csny (and a lot more) used oped tunings......some of Joni's are quiet obscure......but crosby's are a bloody nightmare....I use open tunings a lot ..but it can be awkward at a gig...I tend to take at least two guitars with me and usually 3 or 4......all tuned up to different tunings...one that covers C tunings one for D/E type tunings one for G and one standard...I recently uploaded "ready for the storm which is a C minor tuning and eluded me for ages
Hi. thank you so much for the quick lesson: I didn't think it was so simple to find out the fxxxd tuning! Now I can start to play and I can say it's not so complicate.
Many many thanks from Italy (it's only 30 years I was waiting to play that damned blues..)
@judeca2k6 ...My pleasure...funnily enough its about 30 years ago since I first learned this myself....and my voice was just about good enough then to sing it...it seems to have dropped a few tones since then...Kind regards...Kev
Had a death of a close one so I'm finally getting around to this. Spent time time this evening w/ out any difficulties. I've always dug this song. Thanks for the great explanantion!
I,m really pleased that you found it easy....I wish someone had showed me like this... I had to sit down...listen to the song...and then work it out...but once you get the tuning its a doddle right????
Oh I'm so thankful fo this. From what I'm aware of, I think Stephen drops down to a D alot. I'm just starting to figure all this out. Going out of standard tunning really allows you explore so much further.
Believe it or not, my 13 & 16 year old daughters are gonna have to show me how to upload videos etc... Isn't that horrible lol? Eventually I'll get to do that with some help from them
My pleasure...I find this sort of thing a bit boring to do but I did promise to send out tab and true to form I lost the bloody thing ..so this was the easy out

Excellent man.
Question though. Stills does strums some different chords a bit into the middle of the song. Any idea what they are?

This one used to kill me. I could never figure out the tuning---I tried everything but double-drop d, I guess...
Great job, thanks! Another life mystery solved...
