Since Judas Priest`s "British Steel" is often refered to as the first true Heavy Metal album, it`s kind of an invalid comparison. The first example of rap/hip hop should have been the Sugar Hill Gang or Grand Master Flash. Then, if you want compare Dre to somebody, how about a metal band that also enjoyed a similar level of exposure and popularity during roughly the same period, like Megadeth? Then, you might have considered comparing two more contemporary acts, like Dream Theater and Ludacris.
you cannot just base wheter two music genres are better than one an other from this video, each genre influenced the next, to make the next gen of music. Personally, i think heavy metal is better, but i can't base my judgement on this, i also cant really base any of my judgement on anything, i dont like what i hear on the radio pop/hip hop wise, but iknow for a factevery artist makes good songs which are not played on the radio, thus, i dont not have anything to judge.
@djbusychild Some metal features a huge vocabulary. Take "Uterovaginal insertion of extirpated anomalies" for example, I know what two of those words mean and can take a good guess at one...
@futureartistME1 that happens when u listen to extreme metal for the first time like cannibal corpse after a couple of lsitens and u can understand the lyrics clearly!!!
Well, when I'm listening this, I think hiphop is technically more advanced with the vocals. But metal is much more technical if you listen to the instruments. But I think you picked the wrong metal and wrong hiphop songs.
You need the best of the best of both, and those aren't the best hiphop and metal songs.
I think metal is more techical because you need to know how to play the instruments. I learned how to play guitar for a band i am in and it takes a lot of concentration. and especially writing the songs with all the instrumental notes in them. this is my opinion
Today's hip hop is not really all that technically demanding IMO. If you want to write a rap "song," you don't need to know how to play an instrument, just how synchronize sounds in a mixer, which could require some background in musical theory depending on the song. You don't even have to be a good singer, just have some sense of rhythm. Metal usually requires skill with guitar/bass and drums. Neither genre puts forth compelling lyrics. It all depends on the artist.
