  • Thanks for the post's.

These are some crazy lives we have been sold.

I just can't believe these are the only video's on youtube about liquid modernity.

  • i hope others read bauman's work as well. have you read his other books? how do you cope with these "crazy" lives?

  • I have not read his other books, but I am familiar with postmodernity and other social theories. Your?

    1) I take care of my body so that I am able to see and think through all the noise and bullshit.

    2) I comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable.

    3) I continually vary myself, while still having control over my moods. Just as an experienced sailor always scans the sea and detects a squall far in advance, I try to know what the effect is on myself and its probable effect on others.

  • i like the answer. that impetus for self-reflection is embedded in the character of our age.

  • This one. Great video.

  • i know it's good. now you know... let others know. i'm on a mission. spread the word.

  • Thanks. Give it wings. send share with friends on YT and beyond. messages need to be heard, right?... especially if they're good.

  • Thanks for sharing this

  • you are welcome. what did you see and hear?

  • I saw a powerful eyeopening message, made me think of Revolutionary Warfare by Nas, I passed this along to my comrades. I am a loner myself and I often ponder alot, and it was very nice to see this

    Queen B

  • Dude, this is some good shit. And, entertaining, too. This is professional level and should be more widely distributed. Makes me want to do more- i.e. you've inspired me. Thanks. This was really, really dope.

  • you got something too. i'm telling you, i see you onstage on a park bench talking about all the places you've been and the things you've seen. i see the world coming by, spotlight shining on an indian boy, a malian mother, a southern father and you engaging them all the way you do in the vids. YOU MUST WRITE A DRAFT BY THIS FALL. i will help if you let me.

  • Hmmmm... this needs to marinate a bit in my head.

  • feel you bro wholeheartedly.

  • i know there are many more who think along the same lines but haven't voiced it as such. you and i can't be alone. once the numbers come together, movement is the next step.

  • What if there was a world dance holiday celebrated all over the world? We all stopped working for at least a day and danced together in the streets? :)

    watch?v=agV_lqIeGUU

  • then we would dance in the street for a day. in this country, they can't even give us a day off to elect the most powerful man in the free world. can't see folks taking time to dance... in my teenage yrs, i had a girl i was talking to look at the stars at a particular time at night while i was doing the same. seemed romantic on paper. connecting us, you know. don't know what it did though. we drifted apart... you might have something more behind your dance. make it happen. i'll dance.

  • You know we really work too much in USA...a 2-3-4 day work week would be so much better for everyone and the planet, too. We need enough of the right stuff (food, clothing, education, housing, health care) but not all the unnecessary stuff. Dance more, work less. My new motto. Getting the world to dance together for a day is a pretty big project though...might have to scale it back... :)

  • Great thoughts...make Great men...

and this world needs Great minds and hearts to benefit mankind for future...

    to much garbage thinking nowadays

    great video!

    Indiana

  • Smart video, good job. Very thought-provoking, and enlightening. It's amazing after all this, in modern society many humans still live in oblivion and detachment when faced with injustice.

  • I guess I'll respond when I get chance. I wondered the same thing for a long-time.

  • what same thing, pray tell?

  • Great video... Thank you for sharing I put it in my favorites too.... EACH ONE TEACH ONE!!!

    WE ARE ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • keep teaching.

  • Hi. I just saw your video: We were born under dark skies. /watch?v=LnbK_Cepy7Y We're on the same page about war and what needs to happen and what might happen. I subscribed. Loved especially those images of the human eye with other films reflected! WOW!!!

  • what was "/watch?v=LnbK_Cepy7Y"?

  • It's a link to DaHeartDoNotLie video: We were born under Dark Skies. Copy watch?v=LnbK-Cepy7Y and put it in the url address above. It's user shorthand.

  • Nodding in complicity, great piece brother. I'm sharing, while waiting with bated breath! God Bless you!

  • how we gonna get these ideas in and around "the triangle" --know what i mean? you got much to say. folks 'round here need to hear. you got music and production. i got what i got. why not?

  • "I will like to ses it happen" ME TOO and I will play my part no matter how insiginificant it may seem. Great Work!!

  • thanks for passing this on. if there are good ideas on youtube, mine or others, they need to be shared... what sort of things you imagine doing soon to "play your part"?

  • I teach my children to be free thinkers, to learn from the past, not to follow the 'norms' and to utilize their innate abilities to find solutions. My change starts with self, family, then community

    Peace

  • 100% agree, the "selfchange" is important cause this affects in the long run all arounds us living things...

  • Very Deep Thought. Beautifully pieced together video brother. I've shared with my whole contact list. Each one must teach one...Because WE ARE ONE!

    PEACE

  • thanks. keep sharing.

  • Quit while you're ahead...heck no. You're not ahead. You're still just getting started. :) More, more, more! I wish everyone could see and hear these videos. You are exploring the human universal through the filter of your own experiences.

  • i got more. know that. send the link to another mind and ask that they send it onto a friend and so on and so on. ideas start like this then spread. if you feel the ideas here have legs, bring folks so we can all spread them... "You are exploring the human universal through the filter of your own experiences." you said it... it's not about becoming a black man from black boy. i'm trying to chronicle my human journey so others see their own.

  • and you are succeeding. I'll clue others.

  • This is another impressive video, i am amazed by your thought process its a real inspiration, the about this video information states " The search is part of the definition of what it means to be human and alive " that says it all to me, we should always remember that little quote from time to time.

I am subbing your account on that one quote alone.

  • i loved history growing up and i know i was reading the texts from a kid's perspective, but it seemed the world was going somewhere. utopia vs dystopia. folks gave their lives for one or the other. don't know what the fight is for now. probably just to keep fighting and make profits. a goal needs to be re-established. it will be hard b/c there are more people and more factors in the equation but. where does the human family want to go? every human age has fought thru that question. do we?

  • Excellent conclusion to the series!

Electric circuitry creates a discarnate experience in people, giving us the ability/desire to play a role again, so I am am sure your wish at the end will come true.

"Don't hear it on the radio or MTV

And I damn don't know about BET" - Chuck D

  • still have one or two episodes left. should i quit when ahead?

  • no, i want to hear your conclusion, im soaking this all up!!

  • My "foot in mouth"...please continue!

  • Also, it was the music in part 3 that had the original post banned.

    abkco(dot)com claimed the copyright.

  • Hmmm conclusions does that also mean solutions?

  • the series is not done yet. at least two parts remain. have you seen the four thus far?

  • Yes I did, I made some notes and now I am trying to make a conjunction of all the elements you used in your vids, sort of like a 3D image in my mind, which I then can translate into a comment.

  • yep. I'll do so. this message should be heard. Do you receive my email?

  • where was it sent?

  • There is alot happening in small pockets. But, the big pockets are devastating, that is how I know it is a culture. When you have a mass of people all acting and thinking in the same way, it is a culture. We broke the chains, physically. But, the mental chains still taunt and belittle us to this day.

  • No. I stated it. I disagreed with you about the numbers analysis toward the end of the video.

  • i'm sorry. i didn't realize there was a 2nd page of comments.

  • clap clap! Thankyou

  • you're welcome... now send the link onto some one else.

  • Mos Def said it all. Love the quote at the end.

  • ain't he somethin'.

  • They glamourize and glorify stupidity and materialism, poverty and crime, adultery and hyper sexual activity. They do these things and this is what is shoved in a child's face every day.

The rising numbers of these coonish characters are the educators of American children ( black and white) black children listen more because these are people mostly from their ethnic background.

  • here here. reference last reply.

  • When he spoke about numbers, I did not agree. Because I have observed on an national and international level, that the NUMBER of black men televised on tv, that give off negative a impact, have a huge effect on black men and boys all over the world.

  • i agree. that's why teh video states i "pity" the athletes and entertainers w/the power & the platform yet don't use it. i called them "children". i know they each have foundations and charity work built into the fame game & they "do" their part, sometimes unnoticed... but imagine the social conscience of jim brown or muhammad ali with tiger wood's money, media cache and mass appeal. that's what i waited for. i think that's what the history books pointed to as what should have been next.

  • I think of ordinary people who have made it as tokens. Some are real enough still but those who are still working, ie making money or who have something that can be threatened (and it could be just their lives), do not want to bite the hand that has fed them. John Lennon tried to educate people about Vietnam war and the Justice Department tried to deport him and throw him out of the United States. He really loved NYCity and his life there. More recent examples: Dixie Chicks, Charlie Sheen.

  • it is tough for a public figure, especially when it seems there's much to lose these days. anything done to or by a "star" is magnified 100 fold. so God forbid kevin garnett or allen iverson get political, 'cause i know they both got ideas. but if the powers that be decide to go after them, the story circles the world & exists FOREVER b/c of electronic media. the hesitancy of the rich, black and silent is understandable for the "gotta take care of me fam" ethic, but not excusable.

  • Now I remember reading about recording stars on the Motown lable who went through the Motown process. They were taught how to answer questions so as to not come off political. I think that athletes and stars get that same type of training today. In the book book "Forty Million Dollar Slaves" by Rhoden they talk about the mindset of the athlete and why they are not political..

  • the shelf life of the athlete is 3-5 years. gotta make all the money b/f injury or the new talent comes. stay quiet, play a role, help the team, no mess, 'cause the ride will be over soon. the special treatment, the perks, all gone... diana & marvin gaye had to be prepared for a racist america not used to blackness in front of them. the stars today are taught the same. (makes you think what is america ready for?) a star's shelf life is shorter today in the fickle public. stay quiet. quiet.

  • The mind of the young black man and woman has to be refined to such extent that it seems almost impractical and impossible. What we need is enlightment and an intellectual revolution. That is what we need. I am not declaring that there are no black achievers, the brotha in the film is an achiever for this profound message, but I do disagree with him on one thing, and maybe I intepreted his analysis wrong.

  • it would be something for you to research in and around the chi to see who is achieving and what they're doing. i suspect much is happening. it's just in small pockets. action these days happens in cells --like the bad guys we are looking for-- not movements. school has taught us mass movements. i don't know if they'll ever be what they looked in history books.. you never stated the disagreement. state it, misinterpretation or not.

  • I will say that racial inequality in the U.S. school system is evident, but Black American children today are rejecting educational advances even when the resources are abundant.

  • responsibility. my first few weeks on youtube, i'd see the "why can't you N-ers not be like the asians?" comments. "asians came here and their neighborhoods aren't"... blah blah. i'm sure you read those too on youtube. family structure, self-knowledge, primacy on EDUCATION. the future is not an attack on anything specific. it's a continued attack on the mind. what hasn't been bled from black bodies? what else can happen to our hoods? the minds of ALL men is the great battlefield in wait.

  • The battle for the mind indeed. Yet reflected into the material world as it is.

  • For so long massa has been depriving African Americans from what is theirs by right that now they have decided to deprive themselves. No other factor exceeds the importance of this culture, we call "anti-intellectualsim" because even if you live in the most impoverished part of the country, that does not mean one has to have an impoverished mind also.

  • preach on...

  • Yep spirit above matter.

  • combine the two. no exclusivity.

  • Idealistically yes, but can we still do so? If our minds are overloaded by the input of the materialised world of our desires, then our self-image seems to have evaporated into the glorified unity of the mindless collective. Are there still spirits in individual women and man who are able to combine their spirit in their minds and bodies to speak up and to come into action? Who no longer wish to be the fluid oil that keeps the machinery of the system running?

  • As long as there are humans, there will be such spirits and such wishes...like volcanoes, there are occasional eruptions and, after the heat and smoke, territory is made or claimed. There's got to be a better way...non-stop dancing, perhaps?

  • Lol, dancing that's what I always do when I feel happy, sad or angry. With my body, (in) mind and spirit. And very often when I talk as well, like words dancing out of my mouth; a verbal choreography.

  • The present generation of African-American youth are infected with the culture that we identify as "anti-intellectualsim." This culture was started by African Americans and sustained by African Americans from the 1960's up unitl now. Learning and intellectual advancement is not a priority, duty, wish or goal for them and the failure of African American teens within the U.S school sytstem has nothing to do with sytstemic opression but it is internalized oppression.

  • I like this video. I felt it. Nice haircut also.

  • good to see you. you were the first to say something positive to me on youtube. always appreciated... i know you got stories from your journey thru blackness within and for those you reach in your work...gotta start telling. i wanna incite a national purging. we been quiet about blackness. too quiet.

  • I sent you an email by the address on your profile.

  • hat's when I got a better personal understanding of slavery and capitalism and organizations that continue to allow this kind of "supervision" (or should I say "overseer behavior"?).

  • every man must wear the mask. never forget who you are. before the job hunt and the resume writing, one goal of "schooling" is to find you, 'cause no matter where you go, there you are. any video i've uploaded thus far, i've tried to add that element: self knowledge is the answer to most problems. when your elements provide meaning in your life, "their" --anybody from anywhere w/ whatever good or badness-- becomes a part of the story YOU are writing. YOU are writing the story.

  • I may be writing the story of my life with my actions to what happens around me but I am not all the characters in my life. There are some characters who should be punished and reined in but they are not. That is because they have been given power and authority they do not deserve. They will, most likely, always abuse power because that is how they have seen power abused in their own lives. Foreign film Fast Runner is a good example of social justice. Perhaps, I need to see it again.

  • yep, abuse should not go unpunished. but life ain't action more than it is reaction. reaction determines the meaning of action. the self in you does not let abuse go unpunished, but doesn't let it punish you... i'll search or that movie. two of my favorite foreign films on power as it relates to conscious people: children of the revolution (australia) & the edukators (germany).

  • Thank you for this video. I, too, would like to see this change happen. Your video is helping to make it happen. Once I had a sadistic supervisor who "whipped" me psychologically for doing a good job and demanded that I do an excellent job all the time. It wasn't enough for me to do the job well. She had to see me jump for her amusement. The way I looked was monitored and if I even sighed that was labeled "unprofessional". Continued...
