  • wow, hardcore chills. this is an amazing version of this.

  • I'm 58. My dad would bring home her records for me and my brother to listen to. I remember us giggling. My daddy passed away years ago before I appreciated her. I do wish he could know how much I have grown to love Odetta. We have lost a true treasure with her passing.

  • SIMPLY DIVINE! I just discovered her today. Mon Dieu quel bonheur! Thank you for sharing! I wish I could find her singing "O Freedom".

  • Should i die today, I will die at peace... knowing that I have experienced art so intimately; and as such, have communioned with my creator, who I will return to at my journey's end....

    thank you Clairedelune49

  • Just possibly the greatest blues singer who ever lived.

  • You were very fortunate to capture this most special moment . . . It is the best version , in effect and emotion of this song from the 5 or so different live versions of odettas creation .

     dougie in austin

  • The strenght of the most quiet serenity,

    the impermanence and the eternity

thank you for your gifts to so many generations

  • Love you Odetta!

  • Truly. Thank you, Odetta. What a gorgeous voice and smile, at age 77. R.I.P.

  • r.i.p. gorgeous.

  • odetta is fenomenal.

  • wow, very intense and powerful, truly amazing.

  • What an awesome Performance!

  • No, the House of the Rising Sun is still there, somewhere in the French Quarter. No high rises, everything is regulated there as far as keeping the French Quarter Original.

    Thanks for the music!

  • That's good to hear. I'd like to go there someday.

  • nah, nobody knows if there even was a real "house of the rising sun"

a few clubs in the french quarter claim to be the one, but they are probably all wrong (lying) because of the tourism attracted

chances are it is not about any real place, and certainly not a place actually called "house of the rising sun," but the beauty is that it applies to lots of different places and situations

  • Amazing
