IMHO this video is bullshit, the referenced page as well.
Better to test with real current:
- connect A1 with one output line of a transformer of about 12V AC,
- connect the other line through a 12V lamp to the other line, so that the triac acts like a switch.
- now put an additional connection between A2 and the sensitive Gate (G) through a resistor of 100..1000 ohms.
-> if the triac is OK the lamp will light up.
