It's a travel if you pick up your dribble before you land, which he does on most shots. Most officials will call this, like they will call travel on drives using a hop step (unless you're in the NBA, which no one here is)
When you drop, you should really drop. You are not supposed to jump to your shooting spot, you should move horizontaly, then drop and explode up. This way your shot will be in the air faster.
hahaha where is the travel dude thats kind of move to create space when you shoot! stop playing basketball if you dont know the rules you dont have a future! haha
to whom ever that thinks this is a travel.. your basketball IQ sucks.. this isnt a travel its a called a step back jumper.. you could do that to take a jump shot.. or if your close to the rim to make a lay up or dunk.. stop saying Thats a travel.. you just look stupid.
@briann117 not talking about the hopstep, if you watch closely in the beginning he lifts off his pivot foot before bouncing the ball, ergo travelling :)
Nice shooting but in some of the moves you did isnt a good way to get away from your defender. By putting your legs out in the direction your going before you do it, the defender will find out.( 21 and 22 you will get what i mean.
I can shoot the step-back off one foot fading. Lol. Pisses my neighbor off all the time cause he thinks he should be better than me cause he's black. Then I pull that and he goes "are you sure your not black?" lol
@JBCenter50 Good that you can shoot that shot (It's Dirk Nowitzkis go to move), but race has nothing to do with anything in whos better bro, sorry....
So my team mate HoopHonor just told me how he started dunking, he s shorter than me, he s only 5 6 but jumps over 8 inches taller! So he took the workout over at (50-inch-vertical[dot]com) and gained over 15 inches in his vertical leap!
If you hopsetp, pull back, any dumb as move that takes 1 second to realize you have done it I am sending it in the crowd . Simple pull up, fade, or floater is you're best bet.
@tfluker8 If your guarding a player quicker than you on the perimiter and bite on his pump fake of jab your getting blown by. Then the forward hop step creates even more space between you and the offensive player and he is getting that shot off. Not only will you be late because you bit on the fake but you must turn 180 degrees and turn and run (your behind him) if you go for the block (if your even in the vasinity) likely to get a foul. Step back your not getting to if done right with contact
@therealSCW I don't personally think so becuase a floater is a lower percentage shot, but there is times to use it. If you get in deep enough then yes, you will have to use a floater to get the shot over the big guy quickly. Of course, you can add a floater into this drill too, or create a whole nother drill for that.
@adamfox423 if the ball is still coming to a rest while you're in the process of hoping back, then you will still be able to establish a pivot foot. sooo.... no steps, i guess. well, maybe one.

I'm confused with this whole hopstep thing
This is what i know :
*If you dribble, jumps when dribble, pickup the ball in the air, landed on both feet, and then you can pass, shoot, or establish a pivot foot
*If you dribble, pickup the ball, take one step with one foot, then landed with booth feet, its a travell
*If you dribble, pickup the ball, take one step with right foot, and another step with left foot, or reversed, then its a legal move.
Thats what i know and what my coach told me.

@adamfox423 Neither, its like a jump stop. You can't take any more steps after you have landed except for a jab.
