The beauty of this song is that it cannot be sung in the same way twice. Hall himself cannot repeat what he sang the night before. Therefore this song will be eternally one of the great rock songs all time.
Hall & Oates original is superb, Paul Young had a big hit with it, but it wasn't his song. Unfortunately Paul Young's voice has gone now, unlike Daryl's which is still great. Check out 'Live at the apollo' for a great version of this.
Thanks so much for bringing us up to speed 7circles. I had NEVER heard H&O's version of this great song until now. Different than Paul Young's classic version but every bit as good!
Did anyone know that Daryl Hall sang with the group Executive Suite? They had 2 major hits....Your love is paradise, and when the fuel runs out....They were actually based out of Camden, NJ, not Philly...Their recordings were made in Philly...
So are you saying that the group pictured on their records is not really the ones singing, since there is no Darryl Hall in the photo? Help me understand...
So are you saying that the group pictured in Executive Suite on their records is not really the ones singing, since there is no Darryl Hall in the photo? Help me understand...
probaby all perfect - Hall and Oates, probably one of the best songwriters ever, my most beloved guitar - the telecaster.... and the perfect lyrics for the situation.....
LOVE this song!! Oh, "that blue-eyed soul". My favorite Philly Boys. I like the Paul Young version...but LOVE the way Darryl sings his own song. Just great!!
I can't stop listening to this song. It is so beautiful, and I love the way he sings it. Paul Young's version is great too. But there is something I like so much about the H&O's version.
I listened to your song "Everytime You Go Away", from the album Voices released in 1980, then the version done by Paul Young that took it to number one, then the 1985 version and then the 1995 version.
I didn't think the 1980 version had a groove to assist in making an emotional connection with the listener. It felt like a sort of half time feel but done in 4. I noticed that Paul Young made that connection through certain rhythmic tools employed.
the both of songs: Everytime you go away'' have been sang by Daryll Hall & Oates is over top of favorite songs in the world with good arrangement .. good saxsofal, feelin good by guitarist..bassist,keyboard,drum..and special voices fulled emotional..make us cryed when listen to this song..
The interview in question was about a song called "I can dream about you" by Dan Hartman, that Dan eventually recorded on his own. Hall and Oates only began playing it after Dan passed away, as a tribute. Everytime You Go Away is all Hall and Oates, covered by Paul Young. They ALWAYS kept it in the repertoire, before and after Paul Young. I like both versions, plus all the live ones. Just a great song, written by Daryl Hall! And if you have access to youtube, you have access to google. Get it?
I saw an interview with darryl and he said that paul young wrote the song for their album but he told him it was too late because they had already selected the album and he said that they sorely regretted turning this song down
Notice how they start doing this song live after Paul Young made it huge. I bet they wouldve completely bailed on it otherwise, since the original version was no where as good
@Cr1mSiR I saw an interview with darryl and he said that paul young wrote the song for their album but he told him it was too late because they had already selected the album and he said that they sorely regretted turning this song down
@bigsexyblondiedreads wait, so they took credit for writing the song. And then after Paul Young actually made it sound good, they start doing it live and saying that the song was originally theirs, as if Paul stole the song that he wrote?
@bigsexyblondiedreads No, you have it all wrong. Daryl Hall wrote "Everytime You Go Away" and it was later covered by Paul Young. You are confused because you heard an interview in which Daryl Hall spoke of a song written and performed by Dan Hartman in the 80s, called "I Can Dream With You." Hartman wrote it for Hall and Oates but they refused it. They finally recored it a few years ago for a record called Our Kind of Soul.
@Cr1mSiR technically the song was theirs in principle at least I dont know what the circumstance was but in an interview here on youtube he said that he wished they had recorded that song. It was one of those videos where they sing a song and then go to the interview and stuff. But thats what came out of darryls mouth on camera.
@ranmae57 go back to your oprah and jackson video's...U wouldn't know good music if it hit U between the eyes....i suspect your a child though. ......LOL! haahahaha! U got it right Ltmit!
Baby, if we can't solve any problems Why do we lose so many tears? Oh, so you go again When the leading man appears Always the same theme But can't you see we've got everything going on and Everytime you go away You take a piece of me with you Go on and go free Maybe you're too close to see I can feel your body move But does it mean that much to me I can't go on singing the same theme
This is an amazing performance... Daryl's voice is in top shape here, he's the leading man! who would want to leave this guy and go anywhere without him? I'd take it all with me, not just a piece. Happy Valentine's Day to all the H&O lovers out there.
I'm not sure "cute" is the best way to describe me but okay, I'll take the compliment Nina. I like you because you have indications of being as loyal and true as they come. I fancy myself one of "them" meaning of course, those that come... ;) now you see I have more than just a cute side... I've got a naughty one too.
I meant of course that they that come "loyal and true" but of course, any double entendre that makes people chuckle is more than just a little appropriate, don't you think? Anyway, this video is so amazing... I love Daryl's face at 1:52, what do you think Nina? He looks serene... a look I work hard at cultivating myself. When I'm not busy making bad jokes of course.
... yes and so are we, so are we (I'd willingly help Daryl solve any of his problems, what do you think? wanna help him too?) I'm not sure about the "our Daryl" part, I'm not sure I'd share him if he was mine.
....Yes,I would have to say that sharing Daryl would be reeeaally hard to do. But as we all know, Daryl belongs to his fans...I would have to think any of his women would have to understand that and turn him over....Boo-Hoo for Her and Yeeaaa...for Us! ****
Well I would expect that for his work he might have to spend some time away from me but I highly doubt that any one artist belongs to anyone but himself... like I said before, if I'd have to share him with another woman, "we" wouldn't exist. Now that would be something to shed tears over! :) Nina, I think you're the best. You make me want to visit Detroit.
This is so good in so many ways, great band, great vocals. Showmanship is wonderful.
It is really as good as it gets.
