The beauty of this song is that it cannot be sung in the same way twice. Hall himself cannot repeat what he sang the night before. Therefore this song will be eternally one of the great rock songs all time.

Hall & Oates original is superb, Paul Young had a big hit with it, but it wasn't his song. Unfortunately Paul Young's voice has gone now, unlike Daryl's which is still great. Check out 'Live at the apollo' for a great version of this.

Hello Daryl and John,

I listened to your song "Everytime You Go Away", from the album Voices released in 1980, then the version done by Paul Young that took it to number one, then the 1985 version and then the 1995 version.

I didn't think the 1980 version had a groove to assist in making an emotional connection with the listener. It felt like a sort of half time feel but done in 4. I noticed that Paul Young made that connection through certain rhythmic tools employed.

The interview in question was about a song called "I can dream about you" by Dan Hartman, that Dan eventually recorded on his own. Hall and Oates only began playing it after Dan passed away, as a tribute. Everytime You Go Away is all Hall and Oates, covered by Paul Young. They ALWAYS kept it in the repertoire, before and after Paul Young. I like both versions, plus all the live ones. Just a great song, written by Daryl Hall! And if you have access to youtube, you have access to google. Get it?

@bigsexyblondiedreads No, you have it all wrong. Daryl Hall wrote "Everytime You Go Away" and it was later covered by Paul Young. You are confused because you heard an interview in which Daryl Hall spoke of a song written and performed by Dan Hartman in the 80s, called "I Can Dream With You." Hartman wrote it for Hall and Oates but they refused it. They finally recored it a few years ago for a record called Our Kind of Soul.

Two totally different songs, dig?
