When I was 15 and often hanging around, with all that friends fading away in the foggy years of the long history, we heard that songs...and I always remember, where iàm from!
Cat Stevens -- one of the greatest of all time. Nice to see Jean Roussel on this as well. I was just thinking today, listening to some piped-in music in a restaurant, that today's music really s**** compared to the music of the 60s and 70s....
Great to see this vid on utube, after listening to the cd so many times and trying to picture it. Awesome piano, and instrumental backing, perfect in every way, in fact. I think it's probably his best song, and brilliant recording.
@benloe1 You know, that's just what I was thinking! I sat here and figured out just how long I've been playing Cat Stevens' albums and I think it has been 40 ... FORTY!! years!! And I still love him! I really don't see that changing any time soon! His music is so amazing! I just wish I had seen him in concert. I don't think I have a prayer getting into one of his (Yusuf's) concerts now.
I remember thinking how unfortunate that he disappeared from the music "scene" because he had such a depth to his songs......now I understand why he got out per say....yet could you imagine how much more we could have enjoyed him and his new songs had he stayed.
@calvo50 can you tell me more about what happened, I have heard things like that before...what was the distress from....and I heard he left the magickat tour after father and son and lost all kinds of money, they had a small croud because of some kind of mix up, if you have any info I am very interested , thank you ahead of time.....I am probably about your age so we look at cat stevens in a different light....
@westrokker Do you hear it on the radio of have the cd to crank it up, I don't hear cat stevens on the radio, I think he has been blackballed in this country...
Yes. Catch Bull is a truly wonderful album. I wore out two vinyl copies and a cassette back in the 70s, but fortunately my CD version is made of stronger stuff ;-)
I was raised on this song. I remember my Dad listening to it over and over. Now after the ensuing decades of New Wave, Punk, and Grunge, I've come back to it. What a gift! I never thought I'd hear a live version of this song, let alone watch it. Simply enchanting.
4 bars ..then... don't let me go down...phrasing ....then your speakers kick in for a blast! Modulation...great....orchestra kicks in ...strings... Fender rhodes so sweet!i......Vocals swell......Hope you make the damn plane!
Cat Stevens taught a lot of people the real meaning of musical genius. Back in the 70's, I was one of the select few who became diehard fans of Cat Stevens in Puerto Rico. It didn't take too long for many to follow. Nowadays, my children and his friends enjoy his masterpieces, thanks to Youtube and guys like Socialisto75. Gracias!
I was born and raised in Kansas City,Mo. and there is an 18th and Vine District witch was a huge jazz scene back in the day. Charlie Parker and such. I guess it went to pot, but now it's a historical place.
Noone I mean NOONE feels the music and plays it with such emotion and joy. I miss him, but am so glad to see him back as Yusuf Islam. Now maybe he can help us learn and feel more about Islam and muslims.
everything about this artist and his music defeats all the atrocities in this world so we know people who loves this music are caring honest and descent and thats rare
Sorry Brenda, I accidentally hit "poor comment" by accident. I actually wanted to say I envy you having seen him in concert, and ask what year was that tour? Thanks.
Thnx so much for posting. I Love this song...the whole album! We are truly blessed to have heard
this music in our lifetime. This Man & his music is truly a Gift...ironically there is a Cat (a stray cat) rubbing against my arm at this time...any errors please excuse.. Ps what happened to "Foreigner Suite" it is may fav...Cheers!
Wow...Thank you so much. I had the pleasure of seeing him during his Majikat tour. It is hard to take your eyes or ears off him. Thanks for the memory.
you can see him really getting off on his own music, and great stuff it is!! I liked the camera angle showing how Jean Rousell gives the signal to the orchestra section when it's time. Nice. I love this performance-- the song might not have been half as good without these visuals! still loving this.
OUTSTANDING!! if anyone knows of any more videos from Catch Bull at Four, Foreigner, and the rest... ? I never got to hear those late albums. Just teaser, and Tea for the Tillermen.. was in Brazil then..

I saw Cat Stevens in concert in Kansas City about June of 1971. He almost quit during the show because of fatigue/distress.

This song is simply (by his own account)about having a panic attack on the way to the K.C.Airport.

Max's Kansas City was a nightclub in NYC on Park Ave. South between 17th & 18th St. It was a gathering spot for musicians in the 60's & 70's.
