Prodigy was actually a new identity peter parker/spiderman took in the identity crisis storyline because he was framed for murder so he took a new identity so he could still save people without them knowing who he was but when he was cleared he passed the identity of prodigy over to Ritchie Gilmore, During the identity crisis peter took 3 other identitys:

Dusk, Hornet and Ricochet.
