your talking about a B.Z.O. standard military term for BATTLE SIGHT ZERO.. every Military person who's qualified on the rifle range understand's what that means if they paid attention. during marksmanship class... the only difference i see is that now adays everyone uses optics.. that becomes what people rely on sadly. however it's good to know it as well as iron sight's.. marksmanship is my favorite science/discipline learned from my years as a Marine
For 1,200-1,800 it better zero itself. It probably only costs $300 to make but the rest of the money is our tax dollars going to the military. Oh well whatever kills those bastard ragheads easer is well worth the money
Very good video. You covered the typical sighting problems covered in Marine Corps Marksmanship training with the Trijicon ACOG. Don't know how many times we had new guys shooting all over the place because they didn't set their prisms during BZO. Well done.
@EN2HAMMSTER Oh looks more powerful on video. And the A.R.D would be good in combat situations, so that your location is not compromised from the sunlight reflecting off the scope. Thanks for responding!
@AlphaZorks lol the honey hive i use in the marine corp.. it goes on your acog. it does not allow light to reflect of the end glass so no one will spot you.. lol its so you don't get counter sniped.
If you install a BUIS on back does this put the ACOG to far forward for eye releif? This seems to be the only thing holding back from buying one, I can't understand why Trijicon prior to releasing the SRS has not improved the eye relief on their ACOG line? Correct me if I am wrong but all the vids I see show no BUIS and the ACOG ALL WAY BACK on the rail? :/
@OICU81272 Your observations are correct for the four power acog the eye relief is kind of short, they do have some models that have longer eye relief. I trust my life to the Acog it is 10 times stronger than any BUIS, it has no electronics and no batteries, so chances for failure are almost zero, other than an IED blast or a direct round impact there is not much that can stop it.
I have the 3.5x35 TA11H-G with the .223 ballistic reticle. It works great! I sighted it in at 100 yards and it hits the 200, 300, 400, 500, and 600 yard targets perfectly. What I didn't know was the tapping to seat the prizm! I guess it is seated though because it seems to work. No one told me this!
The only thing the manufacturer repeats time after time in the manual is to not over adjust as it can screw up the mechanism. Dangerous with this 33 yard approach as 9 clicks needed to move 1 inch....
I had to get another acog. i chose the TA11 with the green doughnut for my new 20" build. this one is 3.5x though I'm going to have to try it out with this method to see how it does. any input would be great
can i sight my aimpoint in at 33 meters and have it also be zero'd for 300 meters..? on a m4 rifle like this..33 meters is the same at 300 meters for m4??
@MultiSr16 i think you would have to zero it at 25 meters and it should be on for 300 meters also. or alot of people zero a red dot at 50 meters and it is on again at 200 meters and the bullet drop is minimal
@MrRustytrombone yea thats what its at now, a m4s, but i like a 300 meter zero better., jus cant remember where to shoot from, i could see 300 with a acog better., its tough to do a REAL 300 meter zero with 1x, i can use my irons though., jus wondering., 25 meters u say? cool, ill try it
@MultiSr16 To zero your aimpoint for 300 yards, shoot at 100 yards and your point of impact should be 3.5 inch above point of aim. Then to shoot at 100 yards hold 4 inch low , 200 yards hold 2 inches low , 300 yards point of aim and point of impact should be the same . I hope this helps.
I have the same ACOG with the RMR and it is such a awesome sight. I have never heard of the tapping thing and mine is great at 100 yards. And with the taking it off and putting it back on you need to be sure its on the same spot on the rail also but the dots on the screws is a good idea. Thanks for the idea
@badxradxandy I would like to know at what point in the video you heard me use the word hammer, because it is not in the video I made. PS you spelled hammer wrong
@EN2HAMMSTER Why do some places say 25M (in some manuals I've read) and some other places say 33M? I guess it's just a rough starting point to get you on paper at 100M so it's not an exact science... or is there something I'm missing?
@briles24 The 25 meters you've heard about is the distance used for M16 and M4 setting up the standard iron sights using a special sight in target. The 33 meter sight in procedure is specific to the Acog in the video and it will set up your Acog with a 100 meter zero. Neither of these are rough in procedures, if done right they will put you spot on. Thanks for watching.
@EN2HAMMSTER No, it was for the ACOG but I think I figured out the difference. At 25M, the point of aim is center mass using a standard M16 25M target, but the point of impact is 1cm below that. That seems to make up the difference between shooting at 33M and 25M. I guess that was the military's way of not having to switch from their standard 25M distances at all their ranges.
have you ever had an issue with the eye relief on the ta31? i wanna get a ta31 but the eye relief is ehhhh. i have flip down iron sights i want to keep on my rifle so it would have to sit a little farther forward then yours it so it can lay over to the sight. will there be a issue there? the ta33 looks great i just dont like the small field of view it claims to have 19' vs the ta31 35' . i wanna order one today but these issues are keeping me from buying one.
@StiThis1 There is no way you can run your back-up irons behind the acog I have and maintain proper eye relief . This a problem you will have to work around
@EN2HAMMSTER dang. well with the ta33 model 3x power. would the same zeroing concept work you show here? using the bottom of the chevron at 33m to zero it in and the top should be on at 100 as well?
@EN2HAMMSTER cool. its has the same bdc but it only goes out to 600 not 800. how do you like the eye relief on your acog? is it annoying with it being so short ? i cant pick what model to get and no one around here has any acogs so i cant check them out.
@MrRustytrombone I don't see why it wouldn't. I believe that one is calibrated for a 62 gr round ,use the 300 meter aiming point with the target at 33 meters then just double check your results at 100 meters with the 100 meter aiming point.
as you can tell i need help lol. im about to buy a ta31-f. so just use the bottom of the cheveron at 30m and then the top of it should be on at 100? or the bottom? like what happens if you sight in your acog at 33m and you use the 100m part to sight it in?
@StiThis1 Yes use the bottom of the chevron as your aiming point , set your target at 33 meters . Shoot and adjust your scope so point of aim and point of impact are the same, this will make the tip of the chevron dead on at 100 meters. You should always shoot at 100 meters and double check after you have set it up at 33 meters, if you set it up at 33 meters and use the tip of the chevron your rounds will be way above the target at 100 meters.
im confused a bit on this one. i usually sight my sights in a 25m and the impact is at the same place on the 100m target. why would you use the 300m slit to sight in at 35m? why cant you use your 100m ? this just completely thew everything i knew off. so after ur done sighting in at the 300m slit do you just no ur 200 and100 anymore? because why would you aim farther down? all ur shots would be in the ground
the first time i took out my acog i didn't know you were supposed to slap it after the adjustments i was so frustrated becuase i just got done building my gun too! i was all over the place and left in frustration......then i read the manual
not to disagree with your set up but id beg to differ and im pretty sure any Marine sharp shooter/expert shooter will use the tip of the chevron as your 33 m mark which is on point to 200m/yrd
@mcaleer17 I think you misunderstood this video, this was not about shooting at targets at close range it is about calibrating your ACOG so the tip of the chevron is dead on at 100 meters .
And could I use a laser boresighter to knock it out really quick? And thanks for responding. Glad to see there are still people out their that take the time to help someone out.
I still haven't made it to the range to sight It in but where I live there is only 1 quality range I go to. Its a concrete range that has stakes with the targets on them that go in a hole in the ground at 25, 50, 75, 100 yards. For my 3.5 ACOG should I zero at 100 yards? I don't know what to do about the BDC though. Thanks
the Acog seems like an awesome optic but after watching this i'm glad i went with the Aimpoint comp m4s........though i will still get one of these eventually thx for vid
@HondaSeth1500 You can sight it and zero at any distance with any ammo you want. BDC meand bullet drop compensation. I don't know what model ACOG you have, maybe you don't have a BDC. Most of the 4x do
@HondaSeth1500 To set it up at 100 yards put a target up at 100 yards and then shoot and adjust so point of aim and point of impact are the same. Just remember the BDC will not be accurate because on the acog they are set up in meters. For the BDC on a carbine you need to be shooting a 62 grain bullet also. 100 meters equals 109 yards.
I used my green laser SL-500 boresighter to get mine on the bullseye at 30 yards. Just insert it in the barrel and dial in the ACOG knobs. I'll try it in the woods today. Sweet!

@ThePataepollo After the acog has been sighted in you use the 100 meter aiming point for 100 meters, in my case it is the tip of the chevron.
