UMMM what do you do if the start of a song is not a clear bass hit. like it fades in for example do you just go the next break or what? hell one of the songs I downloaded was incomplete and it messed up the bpm as to what it would have been if it was a full track. anyone catch my drift?
Is this important to set the Warping "Beats" ? or better is "re-pitch" I really couldn't choose because when I choose "Beats" the melody and bassline start to cut them selves (it's hard to notice but when you've heared the song before it's really annoying) and when I choose "Re-Pitch" the melody and bass is okay but the beats will change little bit diiferent (maybe a little filtered or smth)
Hey, I got one for ya :) I just bought a track called "Unison - Knife Party Remix" off of Porter Robinson's new album (EXCELLENT TUNE). This track starts off @ 128 bpm (like most electro house tracks would). However, after about 16 bars, it jumps down to the 121ish range and then the main drop all the way to the end is at 110bpm. What would be the most effective way to warp this in order to use all of my time based FX (i.e. beat repeat)???? Please help! I'm stumped!
@DJJayAre I see that this track is ALL over the place. You could try to automate the master temp of the song. If you have record enabled, you can adjust the tempo with your mouse durning playback. This will then show you a new automation lane in the master channel. Go in and double click on the line to put in breakpoints so you can manually adjust the tempo envelope to change at the necessary parts. The Beat Repeat will stay synced to whatever the tempo is.
@DJJayAre I imagine you want to maintain those tempo changes. If you wanted to achieve this in a studio remix setting, you can automate the master tempo in the Arrangement to go along with the tempo changes. In a live performance setting, you'd probably be best off turning warp off on the track, and then mapping a button to the TAP tempo, then tapping in the tempo when it changes. Because Warp is off the track will continue playing smoothly in Session View, and your fx will stay in time
@snalepa Hey, thanks! I was just about to try that when I heard my email go off lol. Yeah, I'm only really interested in it for live sets. I would even attempt to remix this one without having the stems :)
@ThisIsDownstate Actually, I used to play ONLY vinyl and, since I got this stuff, I'll never go back to it :) I love how now I can spend all that time that used to be devoted to beatmatching and use it more wisely (like actually adding more elements to my live sets and remixing on the fly). Things that will actually please the LISTENER more than my own ego...
@DJJayAre nothing to do with ego's dude. Warping tracks so they are all the same tempo is not DJ'ing. this pesky 'all that time that used to be devoted to beatmatching' you mention IS what DJing (in a mixing sense) is all about. Using live eliminates any skills needed, its retarded that someone who used to use vinyls would think this is DJ'ing cos its not. This is why retarded 14 yr old kids are loading up electro house in live and 'Dj'ing' within hours, and never learning to beat match
@ThisIsDownstate hahahha. Well, you know what they say. You can't argue with ignorance. I have so much I could say to this, but it's honestly not worth the time. Good luck to you.
@ThisIsDownstate everybody who got ableton realise this. i mixed with cd's and my technics 1210's over 5 years now and the a to b, b to a deck shit didn't enjoy me at all. i rly hate it since i became ableton and my 4d :/
@whinchacha for starters, it is timestretching the sounds, so you can only go so far without it sounding weird/bad. But have you tried the different warp modes? There is a big difference between "beats" "tones" "complex" etc, especially depending on what kind of source material you are trying to warp in the first place.
Just one thing I noticed: It's much better (and safer) to save a clip instead of just generating an analysis file. This way you'll have not only the warping, but also any loops and envelope settings.
Just drag the live clip to the browser window and you're done. Remember to save the clip file to the same place where your audio file is.
I really liked the tutorial..I just wanted to know one thing if anyone can help me out..How do I move a transient without it changing the adjacent transients?? I just spent 1 hour trying to this on a vocal sample and after I finished the song I went to listen to it and I noticed that everything was totally un-aligned again..cause when I was adjusting one part the other would move as well. Any tip would begreat. Still a noob.
I'm hoping you can help me, i've got everything going until tapping the tempo, I got the Tap and Metronome keys highlighted but when I play the track it doesn't tap along to it?
i followed the instructions exactly, except when i hit "warp 1.1.1 here" a bunch of yellow warp markers appeard. what do i do? or is that not a bad thing? some songs don't do that..
Great tutorial and straight forward. Any chance we'll be able to get a tutorial for tracks that don't start with a kick drum? And possibly warping acapellas too? That would be awesome!
@DeeJayEndo Thanks! I never said that I preferred any warp modes.didn't want to start a war here:-) just mentioned that Beats mode set to transients gets weird once you move too far away from the tracks original tempo. I will say that Complex/Pro really smears your transients, So i usually only use it on material that i dont really care if it's punchy or not. For instance, Ill use the complex modes on acapellas, instrumental stuff, old tracks that your throwing beats over, changing pitch...Mike
@DeeJayEndo . I had the exact same question. " So i usually only use it on material that i dont really care if it's punchy or not. For instance, Ill use the complex modes on acapellas, instrumental stuff, old tracks that your throwing beats over, changing pitch...Mike" - this makes sense.. thanks for the video .
another good tip is to bring the unwarped track into arrangement view.. you can now visually see where bar 9, 17, 33 etc start and you can even select the master tempo and nudge it up or down by .01 in order to get the right "segment tempo" locked in .. just a different technique than dragging that down beat to 55 like you did in the video, cheers!
Saving analysis files is soooo clutch.. you can set up the launch modes, volume, clip name, color, etc for all your tracks and then drag and drop them ON THE FLY during DJ sets..
MUCH APPRECIATED!! For me, warping has been a problem and if I could warp like I want to, I would be able to get more accomplished inside Ableton. Keep this series coming and please show us how to warp guitar segments and vocals etc. Thanks!
this totally helped me..i can be so duh sometimes.. thanks
